He is credited with saving thousands of dollars by his innovative and creative techniques in solving water and sewage problems in a growing metropolis. He retired after 22-1/2 years of service. He made the rounds of the store almost on a daily basis speaking to and encouraging the employees in their work. They considered him a member of the Wal-Mart family and included him in their employee celebrations, parties, and holiday events. A photograph of Rudy and a guest book was placed in the store so employees and friends could express their condolences.

He was a dedicated and loving witness for his Savior, Jesus Christ, and never missed an opportunity to share his testimony with whomever he met.
