Rev. Edward Faulkner Everett
Lumpkin resident the Rev. Edward Everett, 78, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Everett was born in Ohio and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served his country proudly during World War II.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church.
Rev. Everett was preceded in death by his mother, Eula Everett; sister, Dorothy Conner and family, Fannie Bish, H.E. Bish and Melanie Everett.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Tipton Everett; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Irina Everett; granddaughter, Josie Everett; grandson, Alex Burnusuzyan; great-grandson, Isaiah Everett; friend, Mary Jo Loggins, Dahlonega; and special cousin, Harold Thomason, Clermont.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 2 at Yellow Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Nix, the Rev. Roger Stover, and the Rev. Larry Forrester officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Lula Maude Grizzle
Miss Lula Maude Grizzle, 88, of Dahlonega, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega, following an extended illness.
Miss Grizzle was born in Lumpkin County on Feb. 18, 1916.
Miss Grizzle had been a member of Salem Baptist Church in Lumpkin County since July 25, 1936.
She was the daughter of the late John Henry and Dora Ona Ferguson Grizzle and was preceded in death by one son, James Leonard Lingerfelt; brother, Duffy Grizzle; and sisters, Stella Walden and Fanny Walden.
She is survived by her sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Lena Fortner, Mae Lee, Nellie and Clyde Collins, all of Dahlonega; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Salem Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. The Rev. Roger Stover, the Rev. Joey Fortner, and the Rev. Dennis Fortner will officiate. iIntermentwill follow in the church cemetery.

Doris G. Horne
Lumpkin County resident Doris Horne, 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Horne was a lifelong educator and part-time resident of Lumpkin County for the past three years. A native of Dublin, she was the daughter of Robert F. and Anna Perry Garner.
She graduated from Berry College with a degree in education and worked as a teacher, visiting teacher and curriculum director in the Laurens County and Dublin school systems.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelso C. Horne Sr.
Mrs. Horne is survived by her son, Kelso C. Horne, Jr., Dahlonega; brother, Ralph Garner, Dublin; sister, Sarah Register, Dublin; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 26 at Berea Baptist Church. Burial followed at Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery.

Fannie Bell Berry Long
Mrs Fannie Bell Berry Long, 69, of Dahlonega, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was a native and life-long resident of Lumpkin County, a homemaker and member of Salem Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Homer and Catherine Argie Higgins Grizzle, and was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Berry; sister, Girlie Crisson; brothers, Hubert Grizzle, Hoyt Grizzle, Elmer Fortner, and Ed Fortner.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Freddy Gaddis, Dawsonville; sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Rebecca Grizzle, Cleveland, Lamar and Ann Berry, Gainesville; Danny and Patty Berry, Dahlonega; sister, Lottie Lee, Dahlonega; brother, Lee Grizzle, Dahonega; sisters-in-laws, Jessie Lee Grizzle, Cleta Mae Fortner, Lena Fortner, all of Dahlonega; eight grandchildren; and a small number of other relatives.
Services were held Feb. 21 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lyman Caldwell and the Rev. Michael Rodgers officiating. Burial followed in the Bethlehem/Jones Chapel Cemetary.

Maudie A. Bell

Mrs. Maudie A. Bell, 70, of Dahlonega, died Monday, March 1, 2004, at Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville following an extended illness.
Mrs. Bell was a native of Knoxville, Tenn., who had lived in the Lumpkin County area for many years. She was a former resident of Jacksonville, Fla.
She was the daughter of the late Harrison and Deloris Ellen Messamore Nation and was also preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Bell; brother, Benjamin H. Nation; and sister, Wilma Jean Williams.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Grady Thomas, Cleveland, Inez and Clarence Sullens, Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Cathy Miller, Gainesville, Rev. Phill and Patsy Miller, Dahlonega; sister, Marjorie Mae Wilder, Knoxville, Tenn.; brothers, Fred W. Nation, Kyle J. Nation, both of Clinton, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Services are scheduled for 1 P.M. Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at the Antioch Baptist Church in Lumpkin County with the remains placed in state at the church at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Junior Abernathy and the Rev. Nicky Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Antioch cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Eldon Nix
Mr. Eldon Nix, 86, died Thursday, February 26, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following recent injuries.
Mr. Nix was born in White County and was the son of the late O.T. and Ida Mae Hulsey Nix. He was a retired farmer and school bus driver for White County, and a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Nix is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Darlene Nix, Calhoun; Dean and Ann Nix, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-laws, Kay and Buster Bowen, Cleveland; grandchildren, Deanna Watson, DeLeana Crane, Lynn Nix, Sherry Swanson, Steven Nix, Spencer Nix, Brandon Bowen, Tonya Bowen Norris; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Edsel Nix, Cleveland; sister, Kathleen Rieker, Pennsylvania; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were held Feb. 26 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Anderson, the Rev. Benny Nix and the Rev. Loyd Martin officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Era W. Brackett
Mrs. Era W. Brackett, 87, of Dahlonega, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following an extended illness.
Mrs. Brackett was a native of Gilmer County who had lived in Lumpkin County most of her life. She was a homemaker and member of Antioch Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.
She was the daughter of the late Walter and Ora Walker West and was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Brackett; sons, Herman Jerry Brackett, C.R. Brackett, Danny Brackett; and her brother, Erman West.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Millie Neal, Bonair, Barbara and Ray Maness, Sandra and Darrell Hansen, Shirley Moss and Johnny Major, all of Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack E. and Patricia Brackett, Ricky and Cathy Brackett, all of Dahlonega; sister, Mary Lou Sloan, Hawkinsville; best friend, Gladys Brackett, Dahlonega; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Services were held Feb. 29 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with the Rev. Lyman Caldwell and the Rev. Dean Bryant officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Hope cemetery in Dahlonega.

Anne Grist Dickerson
Rabun native
Mrs. Anne Grist Dickerson, 68, a Rabun County native and resident of Dillard, died March 12, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was a very active member of the Rabun County Historical Society and was also a member of the Macon County Historical Society. She was a former bell choir member at Clayton United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Macon Grist and Blanche Curtis Grist.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jute Dickerson; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Cynthia Dickerson, and their children, Laura, Leah and Scott Dickerson, all of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Greg Moore, and their children, Sarah, Catherine and Robert Moore of Dahlonega; sisters and brothers-in-law, June and Rodney Coleman, Tiger, Jeannette and Buck Church, Clarkesville, Betty and Jim Motes, Allendale, S.C., Johnnie Grist, Rabun Gap; and brother and sister-in-law, David and Sharon Grist, Rabun Gap.
Services were held March 14 at Dillard United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorial may be sent to the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church cemetery Fund.

Vernon Eugene Glaze
Lumpkin native
Mr. Vernon Eugene Glaze, 68, of Dahlonega, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega following an extended illness.
Mr. Glaze was born in Lumpkin County and had lived in Dekalb County and California before returning to Lumpkin County in 1983.
He was retired from the U.S. Navy. After his retirement from the Navy, he was a public safety officer at North Georgia College & State University, where he retired again in 1997.
After his retirement at NGCSU, he did security work at Wal-Mart and at Birch River in Dahlonega.
He was a member of Wahoo Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald Eugene Glaze; his father, Vernon Glaze; and brothers, Dennis Glaze, James Glaze, and Wayne Glaze.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheri Glaze, Athens; mother, Leola Glaze, Conyers; brothers, Bobby Glaze, Conyers, Edward Glaze, Covington; sisters, Zoralene Landress, Jackson, Allene Pritchett, Dacula, Morene Odom, Nadine Sease, both of McDonough; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Services were held March 16 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with the Rev. Dean Bryant officiating.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Glaze was cremated following the service.
