Raymond E. Hague Jr.
Mr. Raymond E. Hague Jr., 72, of Dahlonega, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at North Fulton Regional Medical Center in Roswell following a brief illness.
Mr. Hague was a native of Richmond, Va., who had lived in Lumpkin County for the past three years. He was a former resident of Social Circle and Lawrenceville. He was a retired maintenance worker with the Center for Disease Control and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was the son of the late Raymond E. and Catherine Hague. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen "Dotty" Hague, Dahlonega; stepdaughters, Jackie Wages, Dahlonega, Sherry Torres, Atlanta; grandson, Rodney Torres; sister, Eunice Adams, Richmond, Va.; and several other relatives.
A memorial service was held Feb. 17 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with the Rev. Lamar Day officiating.

Vera Barnes Springer
Mrs. Vera Barnes Springer, 73, of Dahlonega, and formerly of Gainesville, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Bell-Minor Nursing Home in Gainesville following an extended illness.
Born May 15, 1930, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Springer had lived most of her life in Hall County. She had lived the past year with her son in Lumpkin County.
Mrs. Springer had worked as the supervising dietician at Bell-Minor Nursing Home in Gainesville until her retirement and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, L.E. Barnes; husband, Leon Springer; son, Jimmy Cavender; and daughter, Joan Reynolds.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Barbara Cavender, Dahlonega; mother, Mrs. Pauline Barnes, Clermont; sisters, Jean Truelove, Betty Gaines, Myrtle Little, all of Gainesville, Kloma Holland, Ft. Smith, Ark.; brothers, James Barnes, Clermont, Larry N. Barnes, Gainesville; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Feb. 16 at Wauka Mountain Baptist Church in Hall County with the Rev. Dean Bryant officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

David "Cud" Reeves
Mr. David "Cud" Reeves, 70, of Dawsonville, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Lumpkin County, he lived most of his life in Lumpkin and Dawson counties. Disabled at his death, he was formerly employed at Gold City Nursing Center and the City of Charlotte, N.C.
Mr. Reeves was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Edith Reeves.
He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Hanley, Mannasses, Va.; sons, David Reeves Jr., Dawsonville, Donald Reeves, Jerry Reeves, both of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters, Marie Beck, Dawsonville, Meretta Thompson, Brevard, N.C., Margaret Daniel, Ethel Samples, Kathy Burt, all of Dawsonville, Glenda Collins, Gainesville; brother, Ernest Reeves, Dawsonville; one grandson; and a number of other relatives.
Services were held Feb. 15 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Russell Burt and the Rev. Dean Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Williard Flannigan
Mr. Willard Flannigan, 85, of Cumming, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004.
Mr. Flannigan, a native of Dawson County, was a member and deacon at Amicalola Baptist Church for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Flannigan, and son, James Flannigan.
He is survived by his children, Susie Bell Almond, Dahlonega, Bertie Collins, Fred and Patricia Flannigan, Clyde and Julia Flannigan, Betty Jones, all of Cumming; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.
Services were held Feb. 6 at Amicalola Baptist Church with the Rev. Dave Holbrook, the Rev. Dean Pugh and the Rev. Lawton Burt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Paul Raymond Dodds
Mr. Paul Raymond Dodds, 49, of Dahlonega, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 at the Veteran's hospital in Atlanta.
Born July 5, 1954, in Lincoln, Neb., he was the elder son of Robert Neal and Betty Jean (Anton) Dodds.
He lived in Geneva, Neb., started kindergarten and went to school up through the seventh grade.
When the family moved to a farm northwest of Republican City, Neb., he attended school at Republican City, Neb., until he quit the 10th grade to enter the U.S. Army.
He lived in Geneva after he was discharged from the service.
He married
Loris Coleman in York, Neb., July 12, 1976.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Loris; stepdaughter, Wilma Hice and husband Harold, Lakeland, Fla.; stepson, Edward Coleman, Dahlonega; parents, Robert and Betty Dodds, Republican City, Neb.; brother and sister-in-law, Robert W. Cathy Dodds, Axtell, Neb.; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda Lee and Reeve Cheng, San Gabriel, Calif; five grandchildren; two nieces; and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.
Burel Patterson
Mr. Burel Patterson, 70, of Gainesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at his home following an extended illness.
He will be missed by many friends.
Mr. Patterson was born July 14, 1933, to the late Babe Patterson and Emmie Patterson.
He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Ronnie Walters.
Mr. Patterson was self-employed and known by many as a great deer and turkey hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marie Patterson, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Debra Patterson, Dahlonega; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Bobby Rice, Dahlonega, Robin and Dalton Graham, Gainesville; grandchildren, Daniel and Cathy Patterson, Gainesville, Christy and Jess Bagwell, Dahlonega, Bobby Rice Jr., Nick and Jennifer Rice, Zachary Rice, John Rice, Wendy and Lonnie Davis, Lorry Rice, Tiffany Rice, Brittany Rice, Katie Rice, all of Dahlonega, Naomi Graham and Levi Graham, Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Madison Davis, Natalie Davis, Logan Davis, Brady Rice, all of Dahlonega, Amber Garrett, Sophie Patterson, Gainesville; sisters, Ida Mae Ramus, Ruby Waters; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held Feb. 7 at Cool Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Clifford Allen, the Rev. Tony Allison and the Rev. Michael Rodgers officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Edwin R. "Rudy" Myers
Mr. Edwin R. "Rudy" Myers, 82, of Dahlonega, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville after a brief illness following open-heart surgery.
Mr. Myers was a native of Alta Vista, Va. He and his wife built a log home in the hills surrounding Dahlonega where they made their home for the past 23 years.
The Lane Cedar Chest Company employed him in his youth. He owned and operated a laundry and dry cleaning business in Pompano Beach, Fla., for many years. He later joined the City of Pompano Beach Water Department as a supervisor. He is credited with saving thousands of dollars by his innovative and creative techniques in solving water and sewage problems in a growing metropolis. He retired after 22-1/2 years of service. He loved his work so much he was rarely absent and at retirement had accumulated enough unused sick leave to be awarded a $20, 000 bonus.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Hazel Holt Myers.
They were both active members of Dahlonega Baptist Church. He was a member of the Pathfinders Class and she was a leader in the TEL Class.
He was a member of the James Cooper Men's Prayer Group. This interdenominational group of men from the community has met for more than 30 years to offer intercessory prayer for anyone who is ill, bereaved, or has family problems.
Rudy Myers prepared the coffee and a continental breakfast for each meeting for the past 14 years.
He was especially proud of his association with the management and staff of the local Wal-Mart store. He made the rounds of the store almost on a daily basis speaking to and encouraging the employees in their work. They considered him a member of the Wal-Mart family and included him in their employee celebrations, parties, and holiday events. A photograph of Rudy and a guest book was placed in the store so employees and friends could express their condolences.
He was a dedicated and loving witness for his Savior, Jesus Christ, and never missed an opportunity to share his testimony with whomever he met.
He is survived by his sister, Janie E. Myers, Alta Vista, Va.; brothers, Carey T. Myers, Williamsburg, Va., Marvin D. Myers, Hurt, Va., Hoy Landon Myers, High Point, N.C.; cousins, Willie Poe, Anne Poe Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Feb. 14 in the chapel of Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega with the Rev. Robert Green and the Rev. William D. Hutcheson officiating.
The body was cremated and his ashes and the ashes of his beloved wife, Hazel, will be interred together in the Garden of Prayers cemetery in Alta Vista, Va.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Debt Reduction Fund, Dahlonega Baptist Church, 234 Hawkins St., Dahlonega, Ga. 30533 or to the American Heart Association in Rudy's memory.

Derrick Alton Whitlow

Mr. Derrick Alton Whitlow, 23, of Dahlonega, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Atlanta Medical Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Whitlow was born in Hall County. He was a roofer and a member of Community Baptist Church.
He is survived by his parents, Harold and Louise Whitlow, Dahlonega; biological mother, Teresa Jones, Dahlonega; girlfriend, Amanda Dillenger, Dahlonega; sisters, Diane Jackson, Dahlonega, Sandra Godfrey, Clarkesville; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Donna Whitlow, Dahlonega; and half-brothers, Christopher Todd Thomas, Cleveland, Rolando Londo Robledo, Louisiana.
Services were held March 10 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Dyer, the Rev. Sam Ragan and the Rev. Bill McDougal officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery.
