Robert 'Bob' Kuharski
Mr. Robert "Bob" Kuharski, 80, of Rapid City, S.D., died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at his daughter's home in Dawsonville, where he had spent the winter months for the last 13 years.
He was born June 14, 1923, in Calumet City, Ill. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1943 and later joined the United States Air Force as a radio operator flying B-17s during World War II. He also flew Air Rescue out of Colorado Springs, Colo.
He met the love of this life, Peggy Jane Keown, in Rapid City at the USO Club. They were married
July 8, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Church in Rapid City.
Mr. Kuharski was employed by Boeing Aircraft (as a welder on the Minuteman Missile sites), Barber Transportation and Bear Country USA. He also operated Lake Haven restaurant/bar in the Black Hills for 20 years, a family dairy farm, and his own welding business.
He was known for his competitiveness as a sportsman and his humor, uncanny wit, and his determination to have the last laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy, of Rapid City; sons and daughters-in-law, Curren and Nancy Kuharski, Casper, Wyo., Donald Kuharski, Sioux Falls, S.D., Pat and Robbie Kuharski, Sacramento, Calif., Mitch and Ann Kuharski, Denver, Colo., David and Maria Kuharski, Rapid City; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Teddy Hustead, Wall, S.D., Kathy Kuharski, Bozeman, Mont., Cheryl and Brian Fenske, Rapid City, Mary and Bobby Brogdon, Dawsonville; 20 grandchildren, including Mattie, Henry and Sophie Brogdon, Dawsonville; and sisters, Anzelma McKesson, Delores Braun, both of Calumet City, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mae (Roldycz) Kuharski; and brother, Fred Kuharski.
A memorial service was held April 2 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Dahlonega with Monsignor Stephen Churchwell as celebrant.
Additional services will be held April 7 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rapid City. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Rapid City.
A memorial will be established in Mr. Kuharski's name.

Ray G. Calhoun
Mr. Ray G. Calhoun, 83, of Dahlonega, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Calhoun was born in Kokomo, Ind., and lived most of his life in Lumpkin County.
He was self employed in heavy equipment and construction for many years. He was a member and deacon at Concord Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. Ray served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient.
He was the son of the late Garland and Bertie Gamlin Calhoun and was also preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Ella Mae Calhoun; son, Don Calhoun; and sisters, Irma Kendall, Buell Bridges, Billie Jean Hamilton.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Grizzle, Dahlonega; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Naomi Calhoun, Dahlonega; sister: Ocie Sears, Marietta; grandchildren, Jeff Gartrell, Daphney Faulkner, Chanda Sims; great-grandchildren, Sydney Gartrell, Hannah Brooke Eaton, Hunter Eaton, Emily Sims, Gus Faulkner; daughter-in-law, Betty Calhoun; and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Concord Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. The Rev. Dean Bryant, the Rev. Lyman Caldwell, the Rev. Tony Allison, and the Rev. Terry Head will officiate.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.

Brice Wallace
Mr. Brice Wallace, 82, of Dawsonville, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at White Oaks at Lanier following a period of declining health.
A lifelong resident of Dawson County, Mr. Wallace was employed many years by Barker Brothers Paving Co. in Gainesville after which he owned and operated Wallace Union 76 in Dawsonville for 27 years.
He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva "Winnie" Wallace; parents, Charles and Margaret Wallace; four brothers; and three sisters.
He is survived by his children, Vickie and Robert Irvin, Dahlonega, Kay and Jeff Gearhart, Gainesville, Karen and David Cox, Kathy and Ricky Bennett, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Deedra and Glenn Anderson, Amanda Irvin, Tony and Chuck Eberhart, Michael Odum, Krystle Cox, Chelsea Cox, Ryan Bennett, Abby Bennett; six great-grandchildren; special friends Alton Grant, Clarence Barker; and a number of other relatives.
Services were held April 3 at Christ Fellowship Church with Pastor Ricky Stepp, the Rev. A.J. Creel and the Rev. Terry Cowart officiating. Burial followed in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.

Betty Wiezorek Hobbs
Mrs. Betty Wiezorek Hobbs, 65, of Cumming, died April 1, 2004, at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Hobbs had lived in Cumming the past 25 years, moving there from Woodstock.
A homemaker, she was a 22-year volunteer with Northside Hospital Forsyth Auxiliary and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Carlton E. Hobbs, Cumming; daughters, Jean Marie McMurray, Granite Falls, N.C., Mary "Murri" Broer, Dacula, Lisa Broer, Dahlonega; sons, Robert Broer, John Edward Broer, both of Dahlonega, James Broer, Chris Hobbs, both of Cumming, James Hobbs, Woodstock; sisters, Judith Ann Wiezorek, Luana Kitchens, Linda Chisolm, all of Gainesville; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held April 4 at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Lee officiating. Burial followed at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

Ella Davis
Mrs. Ella Davis, 89, of Commerce, and formerly of Lumpkin County, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at the BJC Nursing Home in Commerce following an extended illness.
Mrs. Davis was a native of North Carolina and former resident of Lumpkin County. She had been a resident of BJC Nursing Home in Commerce since January 2001.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Davis.
She is survived by a son, Roy Fortner, Gainesville; daughter, Dorothy Seabolt, Commerce; and several other children, stepchildren, and other relatives.
Services were held April 2 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with the Rev. Lamar Day officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Amos Matthew English
Mr. Amos Matthew English, 32, of Atlanta, and formerly of Lumpkin County, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Hospice Atlanta following an extended illness.
Mr. English was a native of Tampa, Fla., and former resident of Lumpkin County who had lived in Atlanta since 1990.
He is survived by one son, Cody English, Jacksonville, Fla.; mother, Bessie English, Dawsonville; father, Amos English, Fla.; brothers, Aaron English, Dahlonega, Daniel English, Atlanta; and numerous other relatives also survive.
A memorial service was held April 2 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with the Rev. Terry Fields officiating.
At Mr. English's request he was cremated following the memorial service.

Winfred Stowers
Services were held April 6, 2004, for Mr. Winfred Stowers, 71, of Murrayville.
Mr. Stowers was born in Lumpkin County and had lived the past 60 years in Hall County. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War and had also retired, having worked as a truck driver for many years. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Sally Fay Stowers, and a brother, Wilbert Stowers.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucy Black Stowers, Murrayville; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Pam Stowers, Marietta, Larry and Lelia Stowers, Murrayville; grandchildren, Paris and Jessica Stowers, Dylan Stowers, Kelly Stowers, all of Marietta, Richie and Kay Sosebee, Shadrick and Vikki Abercrombie, all of Dahlonega; great-granddaughter, Kinlee Abercrombie, Dahlonega; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Sylvia Stowers, Gainesville; brother, Jimmy Stowers, Murrayville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Yellow Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Stone, the Rev. Robert Nix and the Rev. Dean Bryant officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ray Noble
Mr. Ray Noble, 71, of Dawsonville, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Ft. Gay, W.Va., he lived in Lumpkin County for the past 12 years, having moved from Dawson County.
Mr. Noble retired from Universal Rubber Company and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Westmoreland Noble, and parents, Jennings and Mary Noble.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Warren, Dawsonville, Nora Glenn, Dahlonega; sons, Ray Noble Jr., Kingsland, Texas, Eddie Noble, Wayne, W.Va., Terry Thornton, Dawsonville; sisters, Ellen Sheppard, Ft. Gay, W.Va., Dockie Stewart, Galion, Ohio, Nora Hoyt, Deer Park, Texas, Mandy Thompson, Wayne, W.Va., Jewel Merritt, Dawsonville; brothers, Edward Noble, Ft. Gay, W.Va., Jennings Noble Jr., Pasadena, Texas; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Bethel Baptist Church in Forsyth County. The Rev. James Wheeler and the Rev. Melvin Richards will officiate. iIntermentwill follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
