Magdalene Winstead
Magdalene Winstead died Thursday, March 11, 2004. She was 70.
Ms. Winstead was born July 7, 1933, in Cleveland, near the Lumpkin County line. She attended White County Schools.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Dora Davis Turner; son, Don Dobbins; and brother, Berry Turner.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jeffrey Barrow, Medina, Ohio; companion, John A. Winstead, McEwen, Tenn.; brothers, Carlton Turner and Joe Turner, Cleveland, Herbert Turner, Dahlonega; sisters, Martha Cain, Flowery Branch, Mary Jett, Cleveland; and grandchildren, Rachael Needham and Payton Barrow, both of Medina.
Services were held Sunday in the chapel of Spann Funeral Home in Dickson. Don Smith officiated.

Ethel Grindle
Mrs. Ethel Grindle, 86, of Oakwood, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Laurel Bay Nursing Home in Buford following an extended illness.
Mrs. Grindle was born in Cherokee County and had lived in Hall County for the past 22 years.
She was a former resident of Lumpkin County and Cobb County.
She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Iriland Cantrell Johnson and was also preceded in death by her husband, Jewell Grindle, one brother, and three sisters.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Grace Grindle, Oakwood; grandchildren, Donnie Foster, Gainesville, Deborah Johnson, Marietta; great-grandchildren, Sierra McGrath, Savannah McGrath, Joey Johnson, Aiden Johnson; and numerous other relatives.
Services were held March 28 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating.
Burial followeed in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church #2 cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Wanda Gail Corbin
Services were held Friday, March 26, 2004, for Wanda Gail Corbin, 48, of Gainesville.
Mrs. Corbin was born in Lumpkin County but had lived in Hall County most of her life. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, L.D. Holbrooks, and sister, Latricia Turk.
She is survived by her mother, Girlie Holbrooks, Flowery Branch; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Jeff Davis, Chestnut Mountain, Lynn and James Barton, Flowery Branch, Shasta Woodring, Gainesville; brother, Bobby Spain, Pelzer, S.C.; sisters, Jean Holbrooks, Gainesville, Betty Woodring, Flowery Branch, Joyce Corbin, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Spencer Davis, Kasey Davis, Chestnut Mountain; and nieces and nephews, Shane Woodring, Kevin Woodring, Jason Marlow, Sheryl Ingram, Troy Turk II.
The Rev. Grady White officiated at the service at Ward's Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville, and burial followed in Yellow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Marshall
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Marshall, 87, of Dahlonega died Friday, March 26, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Marshall was a native of Tiltonsville, Ohio, who had lived in Lumpkin county since 1999. She had also lived in Gainesville from 1995 until 1999.
She graduated from McKinley High School in Niles, Ohio, and received her bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio.
She had a master's degree from Westminister College. She taught school in the Warren City Schools in Warren, Ohio for many years and also St. Mary's Elementary School.
She was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Dahlonega.
She was the daughter of the late Timothy Francis and Mary Cecelia Matz Moynihan and was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Marshall, and a brother, Tim Moynihan.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Marshall, Dahlonega; sister, Margaret Ruth Kane, Oregon; brother, Robert Moynihan, Youngstown, Ohio; and several other relatives.
A funeral mass was held March 29 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Dahlonega with Monsignor Stephen Churchwell officiating.
Additional services and burial will be in Warren, Ohio on Wednesday, March 31, 2004.

Larry J. Grizzle
Mr. Larry J. Grizzle, 60, of Dahlonega, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega following an extended illness.
Mr. Grizzle was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County.
He was a retired poultry farmer and self-employed businessman and was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Lumpkin County for 45 years.
He was the son of the late Raleigh and Annie Moose Grizzle and was also preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Grizzle, and a sister, Ella Mae Calhoun.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Loretta Grizzle, Dahlonega; daughters and sons-in-law, Trini Davis, Sabrina and Wayne Gooch, Dahlonega, Nicole and George Oswell, Gainesville; brothers, Charlie Grizzle, Paul Grizzle, both of Dahlonega; sisters, Carrie Robinson, Winterville, Bertha Gooch, Nell Simmons, both of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Lauren Gooch, Audrey Ash, Austin Ash; and numerous other relatives.
Services were held March 30 at Concord Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. with the Rev. Dean Bryant, the Rev. Tony Allison, the Rev. Terry Head, and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Challenged Child, 2360 Murphy Blvd, Gainesville, Ga. 30501.

Donna Sue Chambers
Lumpkin native
Mrs. Donna Sue Chambers, 53, of Auburn, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Emory University Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Lumpkin County, she had lived in Auburn for the past year, having moved from Norcross. A homemaker, she was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Stone Mountain.
She is survived by her husband, Brian Ledbetter, Auburn; daughter, Rhonda Monnier, Auburn; son, Chad Howington, Buford; parents, Bill and Billie Chambers, Lawrenceville; sister, Kathy Edwards, Lilburn; brothers, William "Dickie" Chambers Jr., Grayson, John P. Chambers, Lawrenceville; three grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Services were held March 14 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

Okema Dixon
South Carolina resident
Mrs. Okema Dixon, 76, of Spartanburg, S.C., died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Born June 1, 1927, in Boaz, Ky., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Lina Watson.
She was married
in September 1947 to Ernest Gerald "Ernie" Dixon for 40 years. He preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Dixon.
Mrs. Dixon was an extraordinary gardener, an insightful poet, loving mother and grandmother, and most of all she loved the joy of life and shared the joy with all.
Mrs. Dixon was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Amy Dixon, Atlanta, Tina McLeod, Greensville, S.C.; son, Jeff Dixon, Inman, S.C.; grandchildren, David McLeod, Sean McLeod, Destini Dixon, Ashton Dixon, Zachary Dixon; and sister, Gladys Howard, Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Services were held March 13 at McKinney Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Edna Earl Sparks Roper
Mrs. Edna Earl Sparks Roper, 86, of Jasper, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Mountainside Nursing Home in Jasper.
She was preceded in death by a husband, A.J. Roper, and son, Jack Roper.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Billy and J.J. Roper, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Lee Woody, Suches, Bobbie and Lance Atkins, Odum, Shirley Hitt, Dahlonega, Debbie and Pat Childers, Judy Roper, all of Jasper; sister, Nell Wehunt; sisters-in-law, Velvie Sparks, Willie Mae Sparks, Jennie Sparks, Walterine Roper; 21 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 24 in the chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Van Hinton officiating. Burial followed in Yellow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
