Roy Glaze
Mr. Roy Glaze, 84, of Dahlonega, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness.
Born Oct. 1, 1919, in Lumpkin County, where he was a lifelong resident, Mr. Glaze was the son of the late Cicero and Lona Anderson Glaze.
He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and had worked with the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office for 15 years as a work detail supervisor.
He was a member of Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge #38 and was a member of Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Charles Wayne Glaze, and brothers, Vernon Glaze and Buck Glaze.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Lorraine Glaze, Dahlonega; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Mitchell Blalock, Cindy and Ricky Martin, all of Dawsonville, Pamela and Freddy Lingerfelt, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Keith Blalock, Kennesaw, Ryan and Samantha Lingerfelt, Rodney and Raven Lingerfelt, all of Dahlonega, Nathan Martin, Sacramento, Calif., April Martin, Dawsonville; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Destiny, Clay, Lexi and Kayla; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Annie Glaze, Murrayville, Mrs. Ola Glaze, Conyers; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services were held June 2 at Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church with the Rev. Les Fuller and the Rev. Dean Bryant officiating. Burial followed in Wahoo Baptist Church cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites.

James Thomas Carruth
Mr. James Thomas Carruth, 77, of Watkinsville, died Thursday June 3, 2004, at Gold City Convalescent Center in Dahlonega.
Mr. Carruth was a native and lifelong resident of Oconee County and was a member of the Freeman Creek Baptist Church in Oconee County. He was retired from the Anaconda Cable and Wire Company.
He was the son of the late William James and Ethel Aiken Carruth.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene Strickland Carruth, Watkinsville; brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Helen Carruth, Watkinsville; and several other relatives.
Graveside services were held June 6 at Antioch Christian Church cemetery in Watkinsville with the Rev. Charles Giles and Rev. David Perkins will officiate.

Troy Frix
Mr. Troy Trix, 73, of Cumming, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004.
He was a general contractor for more than 30 years and installed heating and air conditioning units for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Roper Frix, Cumming; children, Delmar Frix, Jerry Frix, both of Cumming; brothers, James Frix, Buford, Will Frix, Cumming, Mark Frix, Dahlonega; one granddaughter; and one stepgrandson.
Services were held May 28 at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Richards and the Rev. Bud Boles officiating. Burial followed in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

Willie Mae Townley
Mrs. Willie Mae Townley, 90, of Dahlonega, died Friday June 4, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Townley was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County, was a homemaker and was a member of Etowah Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.
She was the daughter of the late Will and Laura Loggins Lemley and was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Townley; son, Dean Townley; grandson, Randy Davis; sister, Myrtle Norris; brothers, Homer Lemley and Leonard Lemley; and very special friend, Coy Odom.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Carlene Maxwell, Cathy and T.J. Cain, all of Dahlonega; sons and daughter-in-law, William Townley, Dahlonega, Gene and Lee Townley, Ellenwood; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a large number of other relatives.
Services were held June 6 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with the Rev. Michael Green and the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Burial followed in the Etowah Baptist Church cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Lucy L. Pendley
Mrs. Lucy L. Pendley, 93, of Alpharetta, died Friday, June 4, 2004.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Gene Loner, Gainesville, Melba L. and Edwin Hill, Ball Ground, Brenda Fowler, Suwanee; adopted daughter, Martha Ann Johnson, Murrayville; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Edward and Ruby Pendley, Alpharetta, Winfred E. (Gene) and Joyce Pendley, Talking Rock, Bobby W. and Billie Pendley, Lilburn, Jerry B. and Carol Pendley, Alpharetta; sisters, Emily Summers, Tacoma, Wash.; brother, the Rev. Emerson Payne, Dawsonville; brother-in-law, the Rev. R.D. Pruitt, Ducktown; 24 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held June 6 at Louie E. Jones Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Purcell, the Rev. Ronnie Loner, the Rev. Todd Skinner officiating. Burial followed in Green Lawn Cemetery.

Robert "Bob" Owens
Mr. Robert "Bob" Lewis Owens, 65 of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness.
A celebration of Mr. Owens' life and legacy will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, from the Cleveland United Methodist Church; the Rev. Phil Hoyt, the Rev. Leland Bagwell and the Rev. Mark Riley will officiate.
Mr. Owens served on the North Georgia Fine Arts faculty from 1965 until his retirement in 1997 and was the first head of the Fine Arts Department, established in 1971. Among Bob Owens' works of particular significance to North Georgia: He designed and created the bronze eagle of the "Freedom's Vigil" monument that was unveiled on May 3, 1986, at the Memorial on campus. He also designed and created the official NGCSU Mace that is carried at academic ceremonies and the Presidential Medallion worn with the President's academic regalia.
Mr. Owens was born in Panama City, Fla., and had lived in White County for several years. He was a graduate of Wayne County High School in Panama City; he went on to receive his Associate of Arts Degree at Young Harris College and he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia.
He began his distinguished career with the Clarke County School System and served as Instructor of Art at Truett-McConnell College and Professor of Art at North Georgia College & State University. He also served as Adjunct Professor of Art at Truett-McConnell and Head of the Fine Arts Department at North Georgia College & State University.
In 1966, he founded Owens Pottery, which he operated at the time of his death. His professional arts and craft affiliations included the Foothills Gulds of Arts and Crafts, the Southern Highland Guild, in which he served on the Board of Trustees as a life member, the John C. Campbell Folk School, as well as a sustaining member of the American Craft Council. He was co-founder of the Georgia Mountains Arts, Coop Craft Store. Mr. Owens also served on the Board of Directors for the Quinlan Arts Center and the Georgia Citizens for the Arts, and served on the Advisory Board for the Goeriga Heritage Association.
Mr. Owens also served on the White County Board of Education from 1981 to 1989; he served with the Georgia Art Education Association, where he was president from 1977 to 1980. Also, he served on the Board of Directors for the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association.
During his career, Mr. Owens received numerous awards and honors, including Georgia Art Educator of the Year from the National Art Education Association, the Honored Artist, Youth Art Month and the Outstanding Service Award from the White County Board of Education, and Outstanding Service Award for Very Fine Arts from the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association.
Mr. Owens was a member of the Cleveland Kiwanis Club, where he served as Distinguished Lt. Governor, Distinguished President and he was the recipient of the Kiwanis Club Work Horse Award. He was also a member of the Yonah Lodge F & AM #382, the White County Building Authority, the White County Development Authority and Gideon International. Mr. Owens was a longtime member of the Cleveland United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, he served as president for United Methodist Men, and chaired the Administrative Board from 2000 until 2003. He also served on the Council on Ministries, the Building Committee, the Stewartship Committee and the Pastor Parish Committee.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Owens, Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Jean Owens, Cleveland, Benjiman & Hygie Owens, Charleston, W.Va.; brother, Alvin Burrell Owens, Atmore, Ala.; and grandchildren, Zachary, Rebecca, and Issac Owens.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made the Bob Owens Chair in Pottery and Sculpture, c/o Director of Development, 70 Alumni Drive, Dahlonega, GA 30533; or to Truett-McConnell College.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Dorothy Sullivan, 71, of Covington died Dec. 28, 2003. The daughter of the late Dan Lee and Nealie Ethel Hendrix Sullivan and a native of Dooly County, she lived in Newton County for most of her life. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her hobby was shopping.
