Sara Frances Bond Hill
Funeral services for Sara Frances Bond Hill, 89, of Clarkesville were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Donald Holbrook officiating. Burial was in the Hill’s Crossing Cemetery.
Mrs. Hill died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Habersham Home following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on Jan. 8, 1912, she was a daughter of the late William Rafe and Violet Grant Bond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter B. Hill; daughter, Ann H. Tallent; sons, Hugh Hill and James Edward Hill; brother, W.R. Bond; sisters, Mary W. Cody and Emily Anderson. She was a homemaker and a member of Hill’s Crossing Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Arrowood and Sandra Meeks, both of Clarkesville, Mary Ruth Fuller of Gastonia, N.C., Grace Hill of Mt. Holly, N.C.; sons, Frank Hill, Donald Hill and Verner Hill, all of Clarkesville; son-in-law, Loyd Tallent of Clarkesville; brother, A.T. Bond of Stockbridge; sister, Violet Addy of Toccoa; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Buford Cordell Hamilton
Funeral services for Buford Cordell Hamilton, 81, of Demorest, will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 30, at Amy’s Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Hamilton died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Rabun County on Nov. 29, 1919, he lived most of his life in Habersham County and was retired from Fieldale Farms. He was the son of the late George and Hettie Shook Hamilton. He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Lee Hamilton.
Survivors include his daughters, Doris Ritchie of Clarkesville, Velma Franklin of Cornelia, Darlene Weaver of Royston, Patricia Nix and Cletta Fredericks, both of Danielsville, Rita Freeman of Greenville, S.C.; sons, Odell Hamilton of Demorest, Terry Cordell Hamilton of Clarkesville; sisters, Elza Shook and Thelma Shook, both of Clayton, Elmer Burton of Cornelia, Ruth Grant of Lavonia; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Edward ‘Ed’ Kirkland
CLEVELAND – Graveside services for Edward “Ed” Kirkland, 57, of Cleveland will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Oakland cemetery in Waycross with the Rev. Annie Louise Johnson officiating.
Mr. Kirkland died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Lanier Park Hospital.
Mr. Kirkland was born in Tampa, Fla., on Dec. 16, 1943. He was a son of the late William Campbell Kirkland and Virginia Cooper Kirkland. He was formerly employed with Southern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Miami, Fla. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Submarine Service and was retired from the Civil Air Patrol with the rank of major.
Survivors include his sister, Judy Martin of Carrollton; brother, Lawrence Cooper Kirkland of Cleveland; nieces and husbands, Kimberly and Stanley Lovell of Cornelia, Kerrie and Scott Jones of Cumming; great-nephews, Tony Lovell, Christopher Smith and Nicholas Smith, all of Cornelia; great-nieces, Ashley Lovell and Brooke Lovell, both of Cornelia.

Peter Smessaert
Smessaert, 92, of Baldwin, were held at Grace Calvary-Church in Clarkesville on Nov. 25 with funeral services held in Antioch, Ill., on Nov. 30.
Mr. Smessaert died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Scenic View Nursing Home in Baldwin.
He was born July 20, 1908, in Belgium and was the son of the late Alphonse and Jeanette (Demusure) Smessaert. He was a member of Grace-Calvary Church in Clarkesville, Chicago Janitors Union, National Rifle Association, Amateur Trap Shooters Association, McHenry Gun Club, Professional Bike Riders Association, Belgium-American Club and the Foresters. As a sportsman he was a member of the Olympic Committee, a torch bearer and bronze medalist in 1928. He worked for many years as a stationary engineer, retiring in 1973.
On June 13, 1933, he married
Angeline Minne.
Survivors include his wife, Angeline Smessaert; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Sharon Smessaert of Sautee; daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Bob Vogel of Casper, Wyo.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

David L. 'Rooster' Jewell
HOMER - Memorial services for David Lloyd 'Rooster' Jewell, 60, of Homer, will be held at Line Baptist Church on Old Highway 441 North Saturday at 7 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. prior to memorial services.
Mr. Jewell died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000.
He was the husband of Junne Wood Jewell and the son of the late J.C. and Mary R. Jewell. He was an ordained minister and a member of Line Baptist Church. He was employed by Johnson Railway Service of Cornelia.
He was preceded in death by his son, Tony R. Jewell. His body was donated to the Medical College of Georgia.
Survivors include his wife; son, Gregory D. Jewell of Homer; son and daughter-in-law, Samuel T. and Tommie Ann Jewell of Eastanollee; daughter-in-law, Jeanie Jewell of Statesboro; grandsons, Seth and Elijah Jewell; brothers, Edward Jewell of Walhalla, S.C., Floyd Jewell of Six Mile, S.C., James Benny Jewell of Liberty, S.C., Fred Jewell of Lunenburg, Mass.; sisters, Peggy Ann Craig and Geraldine Donald, both of Six Mile, S.C.

Cora Mae Wilson
Funeral services for Cora Mae Wilson, 91, of Alto, will be held today at 2 p.m. at Baldwin Church of God with the Revs. Paul Morris, Anthony Shore and Johnny Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Wahoo Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born in Lumpkin County on Aug. 8, 1909, to the late Floyd and Louise Allison Gheeren. She was a homemaker and attended Baldwin Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.C. Wilson.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Annie and James King of Alto, Gwyn and Andy Watkins of Baldwin; grandchildren, Julie and Keith Greenway of Lula, Floyd and Debbie King of Alto, Wesley and Susan Watkins of Mt. Louie J. Caudell
Funeral services for Louie J. Caudell, 80, of Baldwin will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Revs. Roy Rogers and Gene Todd officiating. Burial will be in Damascus Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Caudell died Dec. 5, 2000, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Mr. Caudell was born in Banks County on Aug. 17, 1920, and was a son of the late Pitner L. and Decie Coker Caudell. He was retired from Lumite Corporation as a beamer operator with 27-1/2 years of service and was a member of Damascus Baptist Church. Mr. Caudell was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was a member of Grant Reeves Post No. 7720, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Gary Caudell of Baldwin; daughter and son-in-law, Patti Y. and Scottie Chambers of Clermont; son and daughter-in-law, Stacy W. and Kathy Caudell of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Rothell C. Bernice Ruth Daniel
Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice Ruth Daniel, 68, of Demorest, were held Sunday, July 29, at 2 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville. The Revs. Connie Berry and Richard Horn officiated, with burial following at Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest.
Mrs. Daniel died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Habersham County Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Born in Habersham County, Mrs. Daniel was the daughter of the late Thomas and Iowa White Palmer. She was a homemaker and a member of Return Baptist Church in Demorest.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Daniel of Demorest; sons, Ross Daniel of Mt. Airy, Ronnie Daniel of Gainesville; brothers, G.A. Palmer of Clarkesville, Clifford Palmer of Demorest, Robert T. George Richard Watson Jr.
Funeral services for George Richard 'Rick' Watson Jr., 49, of Sautee, were held Monday, July 30, at 2 p.m. at Alexander's Gateway Chapel Funeral Home in Cleveland. The Rev. Doug Bennett officiated the celebration of life service.
Mr. Watson died Friday, July 27, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta following a brief illness.
Mr. Watson was born in Albany, and had lived in White County since 1992. He had worked with Family Chrysler in Cleveland and more recently was employed with Hardy Chevrolet in Cornelia. Rick had many friends he met through the automobile business and enjoyed the time he spent with them playing golf. He also enjoyed the special time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth Watson of Sautee; grandson, Cole Watson of Sautee; parents, Jan and George Watson of Sautee; brothers, Brian Watson of Springfield, Mo., Michael Watson of Cleveland; and grandmother, Mrs. Faustell Spears Banks of Sautee.

Ron Reed
Funeral services for Ron Reed, 32, of Cleveland were held Monday, July 30, at 11 a.m. at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in Demorest. The Rev. David Turner officiated.
Mr. Reed died Friday, July 27, 2001.
Mr. Reed was born on June 24, 1969, in Hall County. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, W.N. Allison, and paternal grandfather, R.C. Reed Jr.
Mr. Reed was a graduate of Georgia Tech with a bachelor's degree in management. He was a poultry field supervisor and was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church.
