Mary Anne Patton Ivester
Funeral services for Mary Anne Patton Ivester, 48, of Carnesville were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in the B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Stacey officiated with burial in Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Ivester died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at her home.
Born in Rabun County on Sept. 12, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Mary Phillips Patton. She was preceded in death by her son, Shandon Leslie Ivester. Mrs. Ivester was a seamstress and was employed by the North Georgia Mailing Service. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie B. Ivester of the home; daughter, Stephanie Barnes of Carnesville; and grandchildren, Katie and Abby Barnes.

Darrell S. Tyre
Graveside services for Mrs. Darrell S. Tyre, 78, of Dexter were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at Dublin Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Tyre died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at a nursing home in Dublin following an extended illness.
Mrs. Tyre was the daughter of the late Wesley Griffin and Ada Graham Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lawrence Tyre.
Mrs. Tyre began a career in banking with Farmers and Merchants Bank in Dublin, and retired from Trust Company Bank in Macon. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dublin.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Lana T. and Allen Thomas of Dublin, Sylvia T. and Jerry Williamson of Dexter; four grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret S. and Kline Lloyd of Dexter; two stepgrandchildren; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Michael E. Lewis
Funeral services for Michael Edward Lewis, 31, of Lansing, Mich., were held Thursday, Nov. 21, in the chapel of Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home. Dr. Don Green from Parker Memorial Baptist Church officiated, with burial in the Crestwood Cemetery.
Mr. Lewis died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002.
Mr. Lewis was born in Lansing, Mich., on Nov. 24, 1970. He moved to Toccoa with his parents at the age of 12. He was a certified mechanic in Beauford, S.C., for three years. Mr. Lewis returned to Michigan in March 2002. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his sons, Jordan Michael Lewis, 11, and Joshua Allen Lewis, 10, who live in Michigan with their mother; and his parents, Robert and Barbara Kingman.

David L. Hauck
Memorial mass for David L. Hauck, 57, of Clarkesville were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at St. Mark Catholic Church. Father Luis Zarama and Father Thad B. Rudd officiated.
Mr. Hauck died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Boonville, Mo., on July 3, 1945, he was the son of the late Emil and Doris Long Hauck. Mr. Hauck was a graduate of Troup County High School and the Woodrow Wilson College of Law.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in Alaska and Italy. Mr. Hauck was a court reporter for the Georgia Mountain Judicial Circuit for the past 29 years. He recently received the Liberty Bell Award from the Mountain Judicial Circuit Bar Association. Mr. Hauck was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lores Saponello Hauck of Clarkesville; sons, Christian Hauck of Leesburg, Va., Norman Hauck of Chicago, Ill.; and sisters, Karen Ward of Gainesville, Renee Daniels of Charlotte, N.C., Susan Miller of Winder.

Ellis ‘Benny’ Roach
No services for Ellis “Benny” Roach, 60, of Cornelia are planned, according to his wishes.
Mr. Roach died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at a private healthcare facility in Comer following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on March 31, 1942, he was a painter and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Roach was preceded in death by his father, Clemson Roach; and brothers, Tommy Roach and Sam Roach.
Survivors include his mother, Leathey Shirley Roach of Cleveland; and sister-in-law, Diane Alexander Roach of Cleveland.

Delhmer A. ‘Sonny’ Rice
Funeral services for Delhmer A. “Sonny” Rice, 60, of Clarkesville will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. The Rev. Dan Rice will officiate.
Mr. Rice died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Atlanta.
Born in Richland County, S.C., on Aug. 25, 1942, he was the son of the late Delhmer and Mildred Grund Rice.
Mr. Rice was a nurse anesthetist. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was non-denominational in his faith, a strong warrior who steadfastly kept the faith and loved the master with all of his heart. Mr. Rice loved the nation of Israel and daily prayed for the peace of Jerusalem.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy C. Rice of Clarkesville; son, John C. Rice of Atlanta; and brother, Derrell S. Rice of Monticello, S.C.

Mary Ruth Byrnes
Funeral services for Mary Ruth Byrnes, 81, of Cornelia will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 7, at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. J.R. Elrod officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Byrnes died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at a private healthcare facility following an extended illness.
Born in Richard City, Tenn., on May 2, 1921, she was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Byrnes attended Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James W. “Jim” Jr. and Brenda Byrnes of Cornelia; and four grandchildren.

Helen Wilbanks Thomas
Funeral services for Helen Wilbanks Thomas, 55, of Alto were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Crossroads Baptist Church. The Rev. Clyde Garrison and the Rev. Jacob Armour officiated, with burial in B.C. Grant Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at her residence following a brief illness.
Born in Habersham County on Nov. 17, 1947, she was the daughter of the late James Haden “J.H.” Wilbanks Jr. and Willeree Armour Wilbanks Watkins. She was a homemaker, an avid gardener, an avid reader and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Thomas of Alto; daughter, April Celeste Thomas of Alto; son, Barry Len Thomas of Alto; stepfather, John Lamon Watkins of Cornelia; stepbrothers, Anthony Watkins of Mt. Airy, Marion Watkins of Homer; grandmother, Vadie Thomas Armour of Alto; and grandchildren, Seth Harold Thomas and Kayla Marie Thomas.

Nimmo L. Church
Funeral services for Nimmo L. Church, 92, of Clarkesville were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Hillside Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Billy Burrell and the Rev. Paris Whitworth officiated, with burial in Clarkesville Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Church died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on July 24, 1911, he was the son of the late George T. and Essie Whitworth Church. He was a retired grading contractor and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Chapman Church of Clarkesville; daughter, Becky Taylor of Spartanburg, S.C.; son, Leroy Church of Clarkesville; brother, Corbet “Stub” Church of Clarkesville; sister, Oma Lee Skelton of Demorest; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Ruby Collins Pirkle
Funeral services for Ruby Collins Pirkle, 86, of Lula were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at Memorial Park Chapel in Gainesville. The Rev. Daryl Womack, the Rev. James Duncan and the Rev. Paul Morris officiated with burial in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Dawsonville.
Mrs. Pirkle died Friday, April 4, 2003, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Pirkle became a Christian at the age of 11 and remained active in the Baptist church throughout her life; she will be missed by her church family at First Baptist Church, Lula. This teacher of teachers and young people served in the education profession for 66 years. She graduated from Young Harris College in 1935 and at the age of 19 was appointed principal and teacher at the two-room Friendship School in Cleveland in the fall of 1935. She then taught at Nacoochee High School and Clarkesville High School before graduating from Piedmont College with degrees in math and English. After graduation she taught high school math in Hall County at Sardis High and White County High School.
In 1945 Mrs. Pirkle and her husband, Clyde, moved to Lula where she taught math at Lula High until 1957. She then began teaching in the newly consolidated East Hall High School and remained there for the next 26 years and officially retired in June 1983.
Following her retirement she continued teaching as a substitute teacher for the next 18 years. During her tenure at East Hall High, she was selected STAR teacher six times and was twice Hall County's Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Pirkle was known for her love of East Hall and its students who fondly remember her as the school's leading cheerleader.
She, a former basketball player at Union County High School and a girls basketball coach at Clarkesville High School, loved athletics. Her love for the East Hall Vikings led her for some 30 years to become the resident ticket seller and gate watcher for all basketball and football games. Despite the sometimes rainy and often cold fall nights, this young-at-heart math teacher never missed a football game.
Mrs. Pirkle was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Pirkle, a World War II veteran, Hall County commissioner and businessman in Lula; and her parents, Virgil C. and Minnie Henson Collins.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Clyde E. Jr. and Helen Pritchett Pirkle of Gainesville; grandson and wife, Andrew and Jennifer Pirkle of Gainesville; granddaughter, Anna Pirkle of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Jordan and Summer Pirkle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Sallie Mae Collins and Howard and Anita Collins; sister-in-law, Buell Pirkle; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
