Mary McCranie Horton
Services for Mary McCranie Horton of Eastman, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10 in Southerland Funeral Chapel with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The Rev. Randy Conley and the Rev. Dahl McDermitt officiated.
Horton, 81, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004 in Heart of Georgia Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late G.W. (Buddy) McCranie and Pearl Parkerson McCranie and the widow of Geiger Horton.
She was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Rhine Baptist Church and was retired from the Dodge County School System after 40 years of service.
Survivors include her son, Wayne Horton; brother-in-law, Paul Horton; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Warren, Erma Wilson and Ruby Kitchens; and several nieces and nephews.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge.
William Jackson ‘Jack’ Jones
Services for William Jackson “Jack” Jones of Jacksonville, Ga. were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at Blockhouse Baptist Church in Jacksonville with interment in the Blockhouse Cemetery.
The Rev. Alvin Lewis, the Rev. Sonny Pate and the Rev. Bill Jones officiated.
Jones, 73, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 after an extended illness. He was the son of the late L.C. Jones Sr. and Georgia Wells Jones and was married to Elaine Cravey Jones.
He was a native of Telfair County, was a farmer and a member of Blockhouse Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Jack Jones Jr. of Jacksonville, Ga. and David Jones of Sanford, N.C.; brother, Charles Jones of Jacksonville, Ga.; three grandchildren, Blake and Cole Jones of Jacksonville, Ga. and Monica Jones of Sanford, N.C.; two aunts, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Mattie L. Myers
Services for Mattie L. Myers of Glenwood, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 in the Alamo Church of God with interment in the Scotland Cemetery.
The Rev. Eschol Ryals officiated.
Myers, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004 in a local hospital. She was the daughter of the late W.R. and Martha Sellars Warren. She was the widow of Hayward Meyers and was preceded in death by a son, J.H. Meyers.
She was a homemaker and a member of Alamo Church of God.
Survivors include her children, Peggy Elton of McRae, Hermon Meyers and Myrtle Turner, both of Glenwood; sister, Thedus Mathis of Alamo; brothers, Gordon Warren of Warner Robins and W.H. Warren of Homerville; grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Towns Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge.
Jimmie D. Wilcox
Services for Jimmie D. Wilcox of Rhine, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at Millcreek Baptist Church in Rhine with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Charlie Robinson officiated.
Wilcox, 70, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004 at the Willow Rivers Health Care Facility in Abbeville. He was the son of the late Willie and Abbie Wilcox.
Survivors include his aunts, Earlie Eady of Eastman and Susie Eady of Dublin; several devoted cousins and other relatives.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.
Darrell W. Monroe
Services for Darrell W. Monroe of Byron, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7 at the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment in the Macon Memorial Park.
The Rev. Randy Berkner officiated.
Monroe, 58, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. He was the son of the late William and Ruthie Monroe and companion of Edi Harvey.
He was a native of Bibb County and was retired from the Civil Service at Robins AFB as a production management specialist. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Army in Vietnam. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church in Macon.
Survivors include his son, Mark Monroe of Warner Robins; step-sons, Michael Harvey of Cochran and Mark Harvey of Warner Robins; sisters, Clarice Crooms of Tennessee, and Elouise Lowie of Centerville; brothers, Frank Monroe of Henderson, Ronald Monroe of Milan, Kenneth Monroe of Scotland, Thomas Monroe of McRae, and Gerry Monroe of Macon; and three grandchildren.
McCullough Funeral Home of Warner Robins was in charge of arrangements.
Pauline Horton Yancey
Services for Pauline Horton Yancey of Rhine, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 in Southerland Funeral Chapel with interment in the Bay Springs Cemetery.
The Rev. Emory Corbitt and the Rev. Roy Williams officiated.
Yancey, 90, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Paul Horton and Elizabeth Cartwright Horton and was the widow of William Yancey.
She was a native of Telfair County and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Sue Roach of Andersonville, Helen Johnson of Monticeilo, Betty Parrish of Rhine and Billie Evans of Eastman; sons, Doug Yancey of Macon, Donald Yancey of Griffin and Jack Yancey of Eastman; sisters, Beatrice Warren of Cochran, Ruby Kitchens of Macon and Erma Wilson of Gray; brother, Paul Horton of Rhine; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of the arrangements.
Kathleen Pruett Goings
Services for Kathleen Pruett Goings of Milan, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30 in El Bethel Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Wayne Cobb officiated.
Goings, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 in the Dodge County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Pruett and Alice Swearingen Pruett and was the widow of Sam Brown and Bill Goings. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mick Pruett.
She was a native of Dodge County and a member of El Bethel Baptist Church. She was a retired civil service secretary of the Warner Robins Air Force Base.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Gunter of Macon; nephew, Mike Pruett of Eastman; great nephew, Mickey Pruett; great niece, Kelli Erwin and great-great niece, Kylie Erwin.

Charles Wendell Melvin
Services for Charles Wendell Melvin of Milan, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29 in Milan Baptist Church with interment in the Sand Grove Cemetery.
Dr. Myron Lane, the Rev. Raymond Dunn and the Rev. Wayne Cobb officiated.
Melvin, 67, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 in the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon. He was the son of the late Charlie Melvin and Lucille Berry Melvin and was married to Judy Moore Melvin of Milan.
He was a native of Dodge County and was a retired employee of Moore Distributing Company and the Telfair County ASCS office. He was a member and deacon of Milan Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Wendy Howard of Savannah; sons, Charles Melvin of Dudley and Harris Melvin of Buford; sister, Susan Jones and four grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Bowen Kennedy
Services for Evelyn Bowen Kennedy of Rhine, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26 in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with interment in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
The Rev. Larry Thompson and the Rev. Bill Jones officiated.
Kennedy, 85, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Bowen and Susan Conley Bowen and was the widow of Jim Dock Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Kennedy.
She was a lifelong resident of Dodge County and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a retired civil service employee of Warner Robins Air Force Base.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Jones of Junction City, Joyce Sheffield and Dorothy Scott, both of Rhine, Susan Johnson of Parrish, Fla., and Eunice Kennedy of Cordele; son, Farrell Kennedy of Ft. Valley; sister, Emma Dean McDuffie of Rhine; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
