Graveside services for Foye Denny Burge, 84, of Clarkesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Pinnacle View Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Chamblin officiating.
Mrs. Burge died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Habersham County Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Surry County, N.C., on Sept. 15, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John Willis and Betty Stamey Denny. She was a graduate of Pilot Mountain High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Nathaniel Burge and a daughter, Linda Burge.
Survivors include her daughters, Amy Burge Skvarka of Clarkesville and Ann Burge Vanderplough of Lawrenceville; brother, J.W. Denny Jr. of Pinnacle, N.C.; sisters, Nell D. McKinney of Pinnacle, N.C., and Pansy D. Broughton of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; and a grandchild.

Funeral services for Vallree LaCount Ivie, 84, of Cornelia, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Level Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian James and the Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Burial was in Level Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Ivie died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at a private healthcare facility following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on Oct. 12, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Callie Loudermilk LaCount. She was a retired supervisor with Carwood Manufacturing. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 46 years. She was preceded in death by husband, Phillip Ivie; brothers, Joe, Arthur, George, Robert and Carl LaCount; sisters, Ruth Dyer, Lizzie Mae Whitworth and Jewell LaCount.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Jakie Smith of Rising Fawn, Sandra and Dennis Blalock of Chestnut Mountain and Kathy and Roy Perry of Demorest; brother, Johnny LaCount of Clarkesville; sisters, Mary Lee Robertson and Vera King, both of Cornelia; grandchildren, Chris and Jan Porter of Charlotte, N.C., Lynn and Brad Smith of Loganville, Amy and Derek Perkins of Buford, Kevin and Deanne Belford of Cornelia, and Philip Murray of Newnan; and three great-grandchildren.

Virrie Virginia Smith
Funeral services for Virrie Virginia Smith, 67, of Demorest, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, at Fairfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Allison officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state in the church from 1:30 p.m. until the service.
Mrs. Smith died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following an extended illness.
Born in Stephens County on May 9, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and the late Betty Jane Holbrook Smith. She lived most of her life in Habersham County and was retired from the Habersham County Board of Education.
Survivors include her husband, Ray L. Smith of Demorest; son, Timothy Ray Smith of Demorest; daughter, Rita Kaye Holcomb of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Anita Faye and Richard Ferguson of Demorest, and Ronda Gaye and Gary Sutton of Batesville; brother, B.O. Smith of Acworth; sister, Christine Taylor of Demorest; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Hillside Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Clarkesville, from 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 9, and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, April 10.

John Ed Allen
Funeral services for John Ed Allen, 65, of Mt. Airy, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Allen, the Rev. Mr. Allen died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born in White County on Jan. 13, 1939. He was the son of the late William Alonzo and Addie Agnes Simmons Allen. He was self-employed in Southern Gospel Music and sang with the Melodyairs Quartet. He was a member of Community Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Sherman Allen; and sister, Irene Lovell.
Survivors are wife, Martha Ann Ansley Allen of Mt. Airy; daughters, Joan Wooley of Mt. Airy and Teresa Armour of Alto; sons, Ricky Allen of Mt. Airy and Shawn Allen of Toccoa; brothers, Paul Allen of Sautee and the Rev. Clifford Allen of Gainesville; sisters, Minnie Lou Sexton of Marietta, Jenny Merritt of Sautee, Susie Holman of Gainesville and Fran Garrison of Baldwin; mother-in-law, Pauline Swafford Ansley of Mt. Airy; and 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, at the funeral home. The family is at the residence.
F. Lewis Pitts Sr.
Funeral services for F. Lewis Pitts Sr., 94, of Mt. Airy, were held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, at Welcome Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Ryals officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Pitts died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Stephens County Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Habersham County on May 22, 1909, he was the son of the late Julian and Sarah Southerland Pitts. He was a carpenter, an avid hunter and a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his wife, Pretchel "Lillie Mae" "Pat" Brady Pitts of Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Grady Allen of Mt. Airy; son and daughter-in-law, Joe A. and Carla Pitts of Mt. Airy; son and fiancee, Lewis Pitts Jr. and Kathy Shaunfield of Canton, N.C.; and eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Rev. W. Edward Patterson
Funeral services for the Rev. William Edward Patterson, 69, of Carnesville, were held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, at Nail's Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Duane Eller and Mr. John Gwizdak officiating.
Burial was in Nail's Creek Baptist Church cemetery with military honors performed by VFW Post 4346.
Mr. Patterson died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
He was a son of the late William Glenn and Lillie Ariail Patterson. He was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Franklin County, where he had lived most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War, and a graduate of the University of Georgia having received his master's degree. He was employed with the Stephens County Board of Education, where he was coordinator of the Federal School Program and later the coordinator of the computer program in the Stephens County School System.
He was an ordained Baptist minister and a member and associate pastor and deacon of Nail's Creek Baptist Church, as well as a former Sunday School teacher at the church. He was a member of the VFW Post 4346 where he had served as the post chaplain and was also District of Georgia chaplain and state chaplain of the Georgia VFW.
He was a member of the Franklin County Lions Club, member and past president of the Georgia State Teacher's Association, member and past president of the Franklin County Historical Society, and was active in Franklin County genealogy.
He was preceded in death by a son, Louis Edward Patterson, who died in 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Janet MacPherson Patterson of the home; daughters, Andrea Dean of Lavonia and Anita King of Carnesville; son, Thomas Glenn Patterson of Carnesville; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; brothers, Wayne Patterson of Toccoa and Trenton Patterson of Mt. Airy; sisters, Faye Robinson of Bowden and Glenda Avery of Duluth.

John Southers Massey
Funeral services for John Southers Massey, 83, of Moundville, Ala., were held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with Bishop Scott Thompson officiating. Burial was in Baldwin cemetery with full military honors provided by the Rabun County Chapter No. 15, Disabled American Veterans and Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84.
Mr. Massey died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
He was born on Feb. 23, 1921, in Moundville, Ala. He was the son of the late Daniel Emmat and Addie Mae Southers Massey and was also preceded in death by a son, William David Massey and a grandson, Brian Heath Massey. Mr. Massey was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He was formerly employed with Lockheed Aircraft Manufacturing and Hayes Aircraft Manufacturing. Mr. Massey was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Ginger Dayton of Mt. Airy; son, Johnny Steven Massey of Hamilton, Ala.; sisters, Alberlee Wyatt of Moundville, Ala., Pearl Standifer, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; brother, Richard Massey, Opelika, Ala.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
