Ginger Young
CORDELE -- Funeral services for Ginger Young were held Friday, July 25, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Northern Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Young's son, Torre Powers, and the Rev. Royce Freeman officiated the services. Burial followed in Zion Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Autrey Moore, Greg Moore, Wayne Moore, Keith Moore, Scott Carroll and Ronnie Beckworth. Honorary pallbearers were co-workers from the Georgia Department of Labor.
Marcene Freeman, pianist, provided soft music for the service. Mrs. Freeman also accompanied Rev. Freeman and herself as they sang "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow." A pre-recorded song of "I Hope You Dance" was played. Rev. Freeman led the congregaton in singing "Amazing Grace" at the graveside.

Gladys Chandler Boss
CORDELE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Chandler Boss, 93, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2003, at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Mrs. Boss died July 23, 2003, in Crisp Regional Hospital.
The Revs. Fred Jones and Thurmond Collins conducted the service. Hortense Sims, pianist, provided the music and accompanied Ricky Collins as he sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace."
Pallbearers were James Barry, Cliff McCardel, Ralph Sims, Gene Slade, Tony Faircloth, Ben Morris, Bubba McKinney and Johnny Culpepper.
Born Aug. 21, 1909, in Haralson County, she was the daughter of the late Beatrice Maude Muse Chandler and Enoch Philo Chandler, and was the widow of Chester David Boss. She was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Mrs. Boss is survived by a nephew and his wife, Ira "Sonny" and Carolyn Ivey; and two nieces and their husbands, Net and Dub Lewis and Janet and Curtis Lowery, all of Cordele.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Rilla C. Ivey, Iva Chandler and Tommy Chandler, and a niece, Louise C. Allen.
The family received friends at the home of Janet and Curtis Lowery.

Virgil Otis Hawkins
CORDELE -- Graveside services for Mr. Virgil Otis Hawkins, 85, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hawkins died July 24, 2003, in Crisp Regional Hospital.
Dr. Richard Hughes and the Revs. George Nelson and Donald Wilson of Plains conducted the services. Rainey Family Funeral Services was in charge of the arrangements.
Born Jan. 4, 1918, in Worth County, he was the son of the late Mattie Miller and William Minor Hawkins, and the widower of Rena Conner Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a Baptist and a retiree of Cordele Sash, Door and Lumber Company.
Survivors include his children, Sonny Hawkins and Janice Dent, both of Cordele, Joanne Kelly of Vienna, Joyce DuVall of Plains, Ruby Carr of LaFayette, and Dot Hamsley of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Alfred Hawkins of Vienna; sisters, Eula Mae Futch of Lake City, Fla., and Carolyn Chalker of Centerville; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family received friends at the home of his daughter, Janice Dent, at 189 Twin Pines Road, Cordele.
John Herman Spradley
CORDELE -- John Herman Spradley, 56, died at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Wednesday, July 23, 2003.
He was born on Thursday, Nov. 28, 1946, in Cordele, the son of the late Buford Spradley and Irene (Rucker) Spradley.
Graveside services were held at Spradley cemetery in Houston County Thursday, July 24, 2003, at 4 p.m. and were conducted by the Rev. Brent Duncan.
He is survived by one daughter, Karen Powell of Vienna; three brothers Kenneth Spradley of Manorville, N.Y., Ross Spradley and Roy Spradley both of Cordele.

Mack F. Dent
CORDELE -- Funeral services for Mack F. Dent, 79, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Richard Hughes and Rev. George Nelson conducted the services. David Dent, Tonya Dent, and Teresa Atkinson sang "If You Only Knew" accompanied by David Dent, pianist. Pallbearers were Doug Gilmore, John Mark Dent, Eddie Ruis, Michael Dent, Andy Dent, and Jim Smith.
Mr. Dent died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at his residence.
A native of Taylor County, he was a retired assembly foreman with Harris Press and a member of the Third Street Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Janice H. Dent of Cordele; two sons, Fred Dent of Sylvester, and the Rev. John Dent of Americus; a daughter, Carolyn O'Neal of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, John Dent of Cordele; three sisters, Kate Woodard of Cordele, Mary Wright and Joyce Moore both of Vienna; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

H. Hollis Culpepper
CORDELE -- Funeral services for H. Hollis Culpepper, 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on at 10 a.m. today.
Mr. Culpepper died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at Crisp Regional Hospital.
A native of Crisp County, he was a retired farmer and a member of the Pleasant Hill Freewill Baptist Church. He was son the late David Benjamin Culpepper and the late Florence Hawkins Culpepper.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Hobbs Culpepper of Cordele; a son, Malloy Culpepper of Cordele; a daughter, Larue Crowson of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Hugh Culpepper of Cussetta; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Alvin Brown
ROCHELLE -- Funeral services for Alvin Brown, 71, of Rochelle will be held at 11 a.m. today at Cannonville Baptist Church. The Revs. Joel Owens, Jack Dowdy and Mobley Cross will be officiating. iIntermentwill be in the Cannonville Cemetery. Frazier & Son Funeral home has charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Brown died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. Brown was born on April 3, 1932, and was a native of Dodge county having lived the greater part of his life in Wilcox County. He was the son of the late Jim Brown and Lessie Smith Brown. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Vernelle Brown of Rochelle, three sons, Donald Alvin Brown of Middleburg, Fla., John Randall Brown of Moultrie and Thomas Edward Brown of Leesburg; one brother, Charles R. Brown of Rochelle, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The pallbearers are Bobby Adams, Don Griffin, Charles Greene, Eddie Greene, Scott Kenne and Mitch Cornell.
Prelude, postlude and a special selection will be rendered by Gladys Cornell.

Dorothy Alma Tramel
CORDELE -- Dorothy A. Tramel, 76, of Cordele died at Crisp Regional Hospital Saturday, June 21, 2003. She was born on Tuesday, April 5, 1927, in Miller County. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Newberry and Alice Newberry. She was a home health nurse.
Graveside services will be held at Sunnyside cemetery on at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan A. (Tramel) Gladney of Cordele and Linda (Tramel) Cowart of Bainbridge; two sons, Gerald Tramel of Cordele and Billy Tramel of Lake Wales, Fla.; a brother, Tom Newberry of Colquitt and a sister Susie Mae Wright of Tampa, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband James T. Tramel.
Visitation will be at Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2003.

John Loyd Rentfrow
CORDELE -- Funeral services for John Loyd Rentfrow, 74, of Albany, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Antioch cemetery in Crisp County. Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors have charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Rentfrow died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at his residence.
Eula Kate Williams Henry
CORDELE -- Funeral services for Eula Kate Williams Henry were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2003, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Revs. Fred Jones and Thurmond Collins officiating.
Hortense Sims, pianist, provided soft music for the services. Pallbearers were: Bob Hunt, Jerry Hunt, Monroe Hunt, Sinclair Shingler, Gib Williams, and Chris Morris. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Willie Ben Ruis
CORDELE -- Willie Ben Ruis, 75, of Cordele died at his residence Saturday, May 31, 2003. He was born on Friday, September 16, 1927, in Lake Park, Ga. He was employed by United States Post Office as a postal carrier for 30 years. He was the former owner of Supreme Fence Co. He was a member of the Cordele First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Wesley Sunday school class. He was also a past local and district V.F.W. Commander. He was a past member of Masonic Lodge and served on the board of Habitat For Humanity. Mr. Ruis served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc. on at 11 a.m. Monday, June 2. Rev. Tommy Mason and Layman Lee Guerry will officiate the service. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery, in Cordele.
He is survived by his wife, Jean S. Ruis of Cordele; his sons, Billy and Betty Ruis of Cordele and Charles and Barbara Ruis of Cordele; two sisters, Betty Kitchens of Cordele and Joann Roobin of Cordele and five grandchildren, Charla Ruis of Cordele, Leann and Shane Lee of Cordele, Brandi Ruis of Cordele, John and Kari Bodrey of Cordele and Chris Bodrey of Vienna.
Visitation will be at Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc. from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2003.
