EVA GRAHAM CORNWELL
Eva Graham Cornwell, 95 died at Crisp Regional Nursing & Rehab on Monday, December 1, 2003. She was born on Thursday, December 26, 1907, in Rome, Ga. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Franklin Graham and Agnes Elizabeth (White) Graham. She was retired from the Warm Springs Foundation and a member of Third Street Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at Manchester City cemetery in Manchester, Ga. on Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at 1:00 PM. She is survived by one daughter Beatrice C. Swinney of Cordele; and one son Donald L Cornwell of Warner Robins; two grandsons Jimmy Swinney of Gulf Shores, Al. and Ted Cornwell of Austin, Tx.; two granddaughters Cheryl Couturier of Cordele and Leslie (Cornwell) Parker of San Antonio, Tx.; She was preceeded in death by her husband William Theodore Cornwell, Sr., son William Theodore Cornwell, Jr. and grandson Gary Cornwell, 16 Great-Grandchildren and 7 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Visitation will be at Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc. on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Marie A. Roberson
Marie A. Roberson, 69, of Cordele died at Crisp Regional Hospital Sunday, January 4, 2004. She was born on Tuesday, July 31, 1934 in Bleckley County and was the daughter of the late Charles Jackson Tripp and Florence Odell Barton Tripp. Graveside services will be held at Smoak cemetery Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 4:00 PM. She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Lee Roberson Powell of Macon and Judy Annett Roberson Kemp of Eastman; one brother, Charles Jackson Tripp, Jr. of Waycross; three sisters, Alice Lashley and Mary Clack, both of Cordele and Joyce Hurley of Pensacola, Fl.; seven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and a niece, Pat Johnson of Cordele. The family will receive friends at Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc. on Monday, January 5, 2004 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Jewel Bokenhagen
Graveside services for Jewel Bokenhagen, 93, of Cordele will be held today, Tuesday, at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery. Rev. Emory Howell will officiate. Mrs. Bokenhagen died at Cordele Health & Rehab Sunday, May 2, 2004. She was born Wednesday, June 8, 1910 in Worth County and was the daughter of the late Charlie Bokenhagen and Maggie Harris Bokenhagen. She was a member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Bokenhagen is survived by several nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Rainey Family Funeral Services.

Jimmie C. Young, Sr.
Jimmie C. Young, Sr., 67 of Oakfield died at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany Thursday, July 22, 2004. He was born Wednesday, April 7, 1937 in Valdosta and was the son of the late James Carlton Young and Susie Cleo Sweat Young. He was retired from Harris Press and Shear as a welder. Graveside services will be held at Sunnyside cemetery Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Young of Cordele: two sons, Jimmie C. Young, Jr. of Oakfield and Tommie and Angela Young of Perry; and a brother and his wife, Tommie Gene and Kathy Young of Columbia, S.C. and five grandchildren, Johnnie, James and Becky Young and Ashley and Brooke Young. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnnie Bert Young. Paul Wilson Craig
Paul Wilson Craig, 76, of Cordele died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Crisp Regional Hospital. He was born July 2, 1928 in Tampa, Fla. and was the son of the late Edward Joseph Craig and Vivian Wilson Craig. A veteran, Mr. Craig had served in the United States Marine Corps and retired from the United States Air Force. After retiring from the military, he was in the field of education for a number of years. He was a member of Cordele First Baptist Church. A Memorial Service will be held at the graveside at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004 at Sunnyside Cemetery. He is survivied by his wife, Joann B. Craig of Cordele; children, Dr. Paul Wilson Craig, II of Huntington, W.V., Patrick Arthur Craig and wife Lorraine of Houston, Texas, Dr. Jana Calhoun and husband Mike of Marianna, Fla. and Suzanne C. Hester of Cordele and grandchildren, Dianna Craig, Andrew Craig, Wilson Craig, Abigail Craig, Amanda Craig, Joshua Hester, Angel Hester, Miki Hester and Erika Hester. The family may be contacted at the Craig residence any time after noon on Thursday, October 7, 2004. They request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to your favorite charity or to give to someone in need. Arrangements are being handled by Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc., P.O. Box 416, Cordele, Ga.

JAMES LEE WILKERSON
James Lee Wilkerson, 32, of Lansing, MI died at his residence in Monday, June 9, 2003. He was born on Tuesday, March 16, 1971, in Cordele, Ga. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July 13, 2003 at the Chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services with interment to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Wilkerson was a practicing attorney in Lansing and a member of the Bar Associations in Georgia and Michigan. He was a graduate of Turner County High School in Ashburn, Ga. He was also a graduate of Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla. and Georgia State University in Atlanta. In 2001 he graduated Cum Laud and in the top nine percent of his class from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Mi. He had recently graduated from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit. Survivors include his mother and father Linda Faye (Brown) and Jimmy Curtis Wilkerson of Rebecca; one son, Evan Matthew Wilkerson of Lansing, Mi.; maternal grandmother, Lorene Brown of Cordele; sister, Gina (Wilkerson) Barnes of Cordele; a niece, Kayla Barnes of Cordele and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, George Brown; paternal grandfather, Arthur (Jake) Wilkerson and paternal grandmother Flora Wilkerson. Rosa Brown King

CORDELE -- Funeral services for Rosa Brown King of 311 W. 14th Ave. will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2003, at Mount Zion First African Baptist Church with burial at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Montezuma. West's Mortuary of Montezuma has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. King died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was the daughter of the late Lila and Mack Adkins.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Archie Mitchell of Jonesboro, Richard Adkins of Valdosta, Bobby Adkins of Park Forest, Ill., Brenda Adkins and Debra Ford, both of Montezuma and Nona Harris of Chicago Heights, Ill.

James E. Statham

CORDELE -- Grave side services for James E. Statham will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2003, in the New Hope cemetery in Abbeville. The Rev. Talmadge Wilcox will officiate. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Statham died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at his residence.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Frazier and Son Funeral Home.

Elmer lee Cherry of Unadilla died Wednesday in the Montezuma Health Care Center. funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Alvie Coes Funeral Home.

Ginger Young

CORDELE -- Funeral services for Ginger Young, 51, will be held at 11a.m. Friday at Northern Heights Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Zion Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Young died Wednesday, July 23, 2003., at Phoebe Putney Hospital.

She was a native of Dooly County. She was the office manager for the Georgia Department of Labor and member of Northern Heights Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Verne Young of Cordele; two sons, Todd Powers of Jefferson and Torre Powers of Montgomery, TX; a daughter, Brittni Young of Cordele; a brother, Charles Arnold of Warner Robins; a sister Robyne Smith of Bonaire and two grandsons, Jacob Powers and Justin Powers both of Jefferson.

Visitation will be held today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elma Lee Cherry

UNADILLA -- Funeral services for Elma Lee Cherry were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, in Brown Chapel Baptist Church in Unadilla. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. J.T. Hill officiated the services.

Mrs. Cherry died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in a local nursing home.

A native of Wilcox County, she was the daughter of the late Levy Way and Beulah Duhart Way. She was a member of Brown Chapel Baptist Church where she served as a missionary and mother of the church. She was a member of the St. John Chapter No. 88, OES. She attended Dooly County public schools and was the widow of the late Willie S. Cherry.

Survivors include her children, L.D. Kendrick Sr., Glory Cherry Lester, Earl Cherry and Vincent (Bobbie J.) Cherry all of Unadilla, Mamie (Clinton) Duhart of Atlanta, and Clara Cherry of Stone Mountain; 30 grandchildren; one adopted grandchild; 58 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Alvie Coes Funeral Home of Unadilla had charge of the arrangements.

Ginger Young

CORDELE -- Funeral services for Ginger Young were held Friday, July 25, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Northern Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Young's son, Torre Powers, and the Rev. Royce Freeman officiated the services. Burial followed in Zion Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Autrey Moore, Greg Moore, Wayne Moore, Keith Moore, Scott Carroll and Ronnie Beckworth. Honorary pallbearers were co-workers from the Georgia Department of Labor.

Marcene Freeman, pianist, provided soft music for the service. Mrs. Freeman also accompanied Rev. Freeman and herself as they sang "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow." A pre-recorded song of "I Hope You Dance" was played. Rev. Freeman led the congregaton in singing "Amazing Grace" at the graveside.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Gladys Chandler Boss

CORDELE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Chandler Boss, 93, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2003, at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mrs. Boss died July 23, 2003, in Crisp Regional Hospital.

The Revs. Fred Jones and Thurmond Collins conducted the service. Hortense Sims, pianist, provided the music and accompanied Ricky Collins as he sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace."

Pallbearers were James Barry, Cliff McCardel, Ralph Sims, Gene Slade, Tony Faircloth, Ben Morris, Bubba McKinney and Johnny Culpepper.

Born Aug. 21, 1909, in Haralson County, she was the daughter of the late Beatrice Maude Muse Chandler and Enoch Philo Chandler, and was the widow of Chester David Boss. She was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Mrs. Boss is survived by a nephew and his wife, Ira "Sonny" and Carolyn Ivey; and two nieces and their husbands, Net and Dub Lewis and Janet and Curtis Lowery, all of Cordele.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Rilla C. Ivey, Iva Chandler and Tommy Chandler, and a niece, Louise C. Allen.

The family received friends at the home of Janet and Curtis Lowery.

Rainey Family Funeral Services, 273-2231, had charge of the arrangements.

Virgil Otis Hawkins

CORDELE -- Graveside services for Mr. Virgil Otis Hawkins, 85, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hawkins died July 24, 2003, in Crisp Regional Hospital.

Dr. Richard Hughes and the Revs. George Nelson and Donald Wilson of Plains conducted the services. Rainey Family Funeral Services was in charge of the arrangements.

Born Jan. 4, 1918, in Worth County, he was the son of the late Mattie Miller and William Minor Hawkins, and the widower of Rena Conner Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a Baptist and a retiree of Cordele Sash, Door and Lumber Company.

Survivors include his children, Sonny Hawkins and Janice Dent, both of Cordele, Joanne Kelly of Vienna, Joyce DuVall of Plains, Ruby Carr of LaFayette, and Dot Hamsley of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Alfred Hawkins of Vienna; sisters, Eula Mae Futch of Lake City, Fla., and Carolyn Chalker of Centerville; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family received friends at the home of his daughter, Janice Dent, at 189 Twin Pines Road, Cordele.

John Herman Spradley

CORDELE -- John Herman Spradley, 56, died at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Wednesday, July 23, 2003.

He was born on Thursday, Nov. 28, 1946, in Cordele, the son of the late Buford Spradley and Irene (Rucker) Spradley.

Graveside services were held at Spradley cemetery in Houston County Thursday, July 24, 2003, at 4 p.m. and were conducted by the Rev. Brent Duncan.

He is survived by one daughter, Karen Powell of Vienna; three brothers Kenneth Spradley of Manorville, N.Y., Ross Spradley and Roy Spradley both of Cordele.
