June Adams Johnson
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- A true southern lady left us on Thursday morning, Oct. 9, 2003. Those of us fortunate enough to know and love her will miss her feisty and fabulous ways. Our "Junie Moon" was one of a kind; she will not be forgotten.
June Adams Johnson was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Charles Adams of Cordele. She was educated in the Crisp County School System and then attended and graduated from Auburn University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and was a homecoming queen. She was a fierce "War Eagle."
June was a wonderful wife to Huntley Johnson. She was a devoted and loving mother to Huntley Johnson Jr. and Voe Johnson Montgomery.
She leaves behind her children and their spouses, daughter-in-law, Melissa Miller, and son-in-law, Bobby Montgomery.
June will forever be cherished by her four adoring grandchildren, Huntley Johnson Montgomery and Kyle Creswell Montgomery of Charlottesville, Va., and Huntley Johnson II and Cameron June Johnson of Gainesville, Fla. They knew their "Duchess" to be one in a million and she was.
June is survived by her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Joyce Adams of Cartersville. She is also survived by Charles and Darri Adams of Atlanta, and Georgia, Tom and Eydie of Cartersville.
June will be laid to rest with her mother and father in the family plot in Cordele.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Covenant Hospice, 2001 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, Fla., 32501.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Covenant Hospice for their caring and dedicated personnel. May June/Mom rest in everlasting peace.

Vivian Joyce Pate
ARABI -- Funeral services for Vivian Joyce Page, 60, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
Mrs. Pate died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Crisp Regional Hospital.
The Rev. Joe Brookshire and the Rev. Kenneth Murphy conducted the services. Barbara Brysch, pianist, played soft music and accompanied herself as she sang "In the Garden." Mrs. Brysch also accompanied Pate Odom as he played "Amazing Grace" on the harmonica.
Pallbearers were Jared Smith, Matthew Odom, Larry Pate, Pate Odom, Larry Molott and Calvin Pate. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Derrick Smith and Sammy Lindsey.
George Wesley Jacobs Sr.
CORDELE -- Funeral services for George Wesley Jacobs Sr., 84, of Cordele were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Cordele Church of God of Prophecy. iIntermentwas in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were handled by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
Mr. Jacobs died at his residence Oct. 5, 2003.
The Rev. Joe Brookshire conducted the service. Horace Kennedy, pianist, provided the music and also accompanied Eddie and Tracey Kennedy, Linda Kennedy and himself as they sang "When I've Traveled My Last Mile." Eddie and Tracy Kennedy sang "Sheltered in the Arms of God" to taped accompaniment.
Pallbearers were Allan Henderson, Steve Henderson, Wes Jacobs, Brandon Dean, T/Sgt. Arnold Goins and Pete Smith. T/Sgt. Goins of the U.S. Air Force presented Mrs. Jacobs with the American flag.
Linda Ann Morrison
CORDELE -- Funeral services for Linda Ann Holmes Morrison, 57, of Cordele were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003. Rainey Family Funeral Services were in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Morrison died at her residence Monday, Oct. 6, 2003.
The Rev. Lucky Barfield conducted the service and the Rev. Cecil Teal gave the eulogy. "Go Rest High on That Mountain" was played and Rev. Teal sang "Precious Memories" a capella.
Pallbearers were Bubba Poole, Lamar Brown, Robert Sears, Danny Powell, Jack Blackwell and Lee Forsyth. At the interment in Sunnyside Cemetery, the congregation was led in singing "Amazing Grace."
Born on Thursday, Nov. 22, 1945, in Cordele, Mrs. Morrison was the daughter of the late Luther Holmes and Nora Sarah Carter Holmes. She was a homemaker and a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James Billy Morrison of Cordele; four daughters, Melody Berry, Machelle Kinard of Vienna, Gail Allen and Jackie Mustain both of Cordele; four brothers, Charles Holmes, Virgil Holmes and Robert Holmes, all of Cordele and Marvin Holmes of Fairbanks, Alaska; one sister, Carrie Brown of Cordele; eight grandchildren, Blake Craig, James Ashabranner, Kelley Stubbs, Michael Kinard, Brad Kinard, Amy Poole, Ashley Evans, Bura Allen Jr.; and one great-grandchild, Cameron Poole.
Mrs. Morrison was preceded in death by a sister, June White.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Ela P. Mashburn
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Funeral services for Ela P. Mashburn, 89, of Cypress Village will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 8, 2003, in the Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church in Florida. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Arabi Cemetery. Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Jacksonville has charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Mashburn died Tuesday, May 6, 2003.
She was born in Turner County on Nov. 18, 1913, the daughter of Eugene T. and Della E. Rutledge Prevatt. A longtime resident of the Beaches, she moved to the Jacksonville area in 1954. She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville Beach, and was active in the Jacksonville Beach Women's Club and Garden Club. She was active in her church and taught Sunday School for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Maridell Bagnal of Ponte Vedra Beach; a granddaughter, Anne Carol Castello of Ormond Beach; a grandson, Derek Castello of Melbourne; and a niece, Carol McKinney of Arabi.
Her first husband, Oswald Walters, and her second husband, John C. Mashburn, owner of Mashburn Upholstery, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. today at the church.
Melvin Cleghorn
SYCAMORE -- Funeral services for Melvin Cleghorn, 68, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Perry Funeral Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Cleghorn died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at his residence in Turner County.
Angela Bell
BUTLER -- Funeral services for Angela Bell, 22, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003, in Zion Hill Baptist Church, Butler. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery. Bentley Funeral Directors of Cordele and Reynolds has charge of the arrangements.
Miss Bell died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at her residence.
Amanda McKinney
CORDELE -- Amanda McKinney, 22, of Cordele, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, in Butts County, as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born on Thursday, January 22, 1981, in Americus. Miss McKinney was the daughter of Ronnie Fredrick McKinney and Dorothy Susan (Hall) McKinney of Cordele. An outstanding young lady, Miss McKinney was at the present time doing mission work with the Wesley Foundation of Georgia. She was a 1999 graduate of Crisp County High School where she was the class salutatorian. She graduated summa cum laude from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro in May of 2003, where she was the president of Alpha Delta Phi sorority and a member of the Wesley Foundation of Georgia Southern University. She was selected as a member of the 2003 Homecoming Court and was voted 2003 Georgia Southern College Greek Female of the Year. She also sang lead in the Spring Opera of "Pirates of Penzance."
Funeral services will be held at Cordele First Baptist Church today, June 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.
In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by a brother, Matt McKinney of Cordele; her
paternal grandmother, Vera Jeanette (Crumbley) McKinney of Cordele, and her maternal grandfather, Royce Hall of Donalsonville.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Charles Thomas (Bo) McKinney and her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Hall.

CORDELE -- Funeral services for Alice Daniel Cleveland, 49, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2003, at Perry Funeral Chapel, Ashburn. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Cordele.
Ms. Cleveland died Thursday, June 5, 2003, in an Albany hospital following a lengthy illness.

BYROMVILLE -- Graveside services for William J. Everidge, 91, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Vienna City Cemetery. Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Vienna has charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Everidge died Thursday, June 5, 2003, in a Montezuma hospital.
Lois Louise Dykes Coley
SYLVESTER -- Funeral services for Lois Louise Dykes Coley, 87, will be held at 3 p.m. today, June 8, 2003, in Red Oak Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Red Oak Cemetery. The Rev. Grady Morey will officiate the services, directed by Banks Funeral Home.
Mrs. Coley died Friday, June 6, 2003, in Sylvester Health Care Center.
Olen Christmas
PITTS -- Funeral services for Olen Christmas, 80, will be held at 3 p.m. today, June 8, 2003, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Mr. Christmas died Friday, June 6, 2003, in Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab.
A native of Crisp County, he was a retired farmer and a member of Hatley Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Atherton of Pitts, Margie McBryant of Cordele, Sherry Long of Danville, Marie Reese of Thomason, and Jane Nutt of Vienna; one sister, Evelyn Boyle of Pitts; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Walls Christmas; a granddaughter, Jackie Pugsley; and two great-grandsons, Justin and Jack Pugsley.
