Johnny B. Spivey
ATLANTA — Funeral services for Johnny B. “Charlie” Spivey, 63, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, in Bethlehem Baptist Church in Dooling. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Tom Law will officiate the services.
Mr. Spivey died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at his residence.
A native of Dooly County, he was the son of the late Joe and Lucy Brown Spivey. He was educated in Dooly County public schools and worked as a machine operator.
Survivors include his wife, Georgie B. Spivey of Atlanta; a daughter, Michelle B. Spivey of Atlanta; three step-children, Sammie Bentley, Penny Wright and Tammy Harrison all of Atlanta; four sisters, Eugenia Smith of Miami, Fla., Beatrice Stewart of Atlanta, Bernice Clark of Dooling and Gladys (Wilbert) Hardrick of Byromville; one brother, Sampson Spivey of Byromville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one aunt; six sisters-in-law and many other relatives and friends.

Mae Willie West
VIENNA — Funeral services for Mae Willie West will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, in the sanctuary of Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, Dooling. The Rev. Arnell Wilburn will officiate the services.
Mrs. West died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005.
Survivors include her children, Jessie (Ocilla) West of Decatur, Willie Turner of Cordele, Bobbie Sutton of Atlanta, and Carrie (Harry) Wilson of Oglethorpe; a sister, Lizzie Leary of Atlanta; brothers, Willie (Pearl) Mann Jr. of South Bay, Fla., and James (Jeanette) Mann of Stafford, Va.; nine grandchildren, including one special grandchild, Jeffery West of Forrest Park.

Lois Hurt Taylor
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Funeral services for Lois Hurt Taylor, 72, were held Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in the chapel of Weaver Funeral Home in Knoxville. The Rev. Jim Stroud officiated the services. Burial was in Tennessee State Veterans cemetery on Jan. 4, 2005.
Mrs. Taylor died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, in Fort Sanders Park West Hospital in Knoxville.
Stephanie Smith sang “There’ll Be Joy On the Other Side of Jordan” and “I Bowed On My Knees and Cried Holy.”
Born Feb. 4, 1932, in Crisp County, she was the daughter of the late William Alexander and Pearl Hurt. She was a member of Third Creek Baptist Church of Knoxville and was preceded in death by a brother, Winifred Hurt, and a sister, Inez Hurt Whittaker.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Taylor Knoxville; sons, Thomas Glenn Taylor of Seymour, Tenn., and Steven Alexander Taylor of Silverdale, Wash.; a daughter, Brenda Bradfield of Raleigh, N.C.; brothers, William A. Hurt Jr. of Cordele, and John Hurt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters, Lewellyn Porter, Wynell Howell and Linda Kennedy all of Cordele, Caronee Boyd of Warner Robins, and Katherine Smith of Plainville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Gladys J. Hardegree
VIENNA — Graveside services for Gladys J. Hardegree, 88, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 4, 2005, at the Vienna City Cemetery.
Mrs. Hardegree died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus.
Born in Crisp County, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie James Johnson and Elizabeth Richardson Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Vienna. She was the widow of the late D.L. Hardegree and was a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include two daughters, Loraine H. Dix of Genoa, Nev., and Charlotte H. Mixon of Vienna; a son, David Hardegree of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Mae W. Elliott of Novi, Mich., and Evelyn Jones of Cordele; a brother, William E. Johnson of Cordele; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Willie Otis ‘Man’ Walker
PITTS — Funeral services for Willie Otis “Man” Walker were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in the sanctuary of St. Paul Baptist Church. Burial followed in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Jesse Watts officiated the services.
Mr. Walker died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004.
Survivors include a special friend, Willie M. ASHBURN — Funeral services for Margaret Ponder, 84, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in the Sycamore United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Rose Hill cemetery in Ashburn. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn had charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Ponder died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Montezuma following a lengthy illness.
Everett O. Ross
CORDELE — Everett O. Ross, 86, of Cordele died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, in Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.
He was the son of the late Luther Ross and Donna Cobb Ross and was the retired manager of Butler Supply Company in Cordele. He was an Army Medic in World War II, and a member of the Pinecrest Baptist Church where he taught the Everett Ross Sunday School Class for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Berdie H. Ross; three step-daughters, Jackie (Craig) Daniels of Warwick, Sue (Walter) Burnett of Albany, and Rachel Beasley of Roswell; one brother, Russell Ross of Eastman; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Essie Norris Ross.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Pinecrest Baptist Church with interment at 2 p.m. at the cemetery in Eastman. Arrangements were handled by Rainey Family Funeral Services Inc., Cordele.
Thomas Emory Clements
CORDELE - Funeral services for Thomas Emory Clements of Warner Robins were held on Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. Rev. Wayne Poole conducted the services. Marcine Freeman, pianist, played soft music and accompanied Kevin Moore as he sang, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”.
Pallbearers were David Clements, Scotty Alexander, Derek Clements, Jason Clements, Mike Cook, Joey Clements, Jonathan Clements, and Bailey O. Carmichael. Burial followed the service at Zion Hope cemetery in Crisp County.
Mr. Clements passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 following a brief illness. Emory was born in Crisp County, August 21, 1938 to Elizabeth Poole Clements and the late Thomas Jefferson Clements, Jr. He served in the United States Navy and worked at Robins Air Force Base for more than thirty years before retiring as a Logistician. Emory was an avid ham radio operator and a member of the Middle Georgia Radio Association (MGRA).
Clements father and brother Ray Dorsey Clements preceded him in death.
Suvivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Gloria Ann Jacobs Clements; children, Thomas David Clements (Cheryl), Debra Carol Alexander and Elizabeth Ann Cook (Michael) all of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Thomas Jason Clements, Michael Scott Alexander, Jennifer Lynn Parks (Steven), Stacey Ann Alexander, Joshuah Michael Cook, Michala Ann Cook, and one great-granddaughter Alexis Jade Alexander all of Warner Robins; his mother Elizabeth Poole Clements of Cordele; brothers Lee Nelson Clements of Abbeville, Jerry William Clements, Walter Jefferson Clements and sister Mary Ann Rinehart all of Cordele.
The family received friends at McCollough Funeral Home in Warner Robins on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 from 7 til 9 p.m.

Everett O. Ross
CORDELE - Funeral services for Everett O. Ross were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005 at Pinecrest Baptist Church. Rev. Don Howell conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements. Lee Hauesler, pianist, played soft music and accompanied Cindy Edalgo as she sang “Amazing Grace” and “It Is Well With My Soul”. The service was closed as Kathy Brinson played “Shall We Gather At The River” on the harmonica.
Pallbearers were Bill Ross, John Ross, Winifred Ross, Scott Forehand, Aubrey Alford and Steve Mitchell. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery in Eastman. Mr. Ross, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 at Crisp Regional Hospital.

Irene Brown
JEFFERSONVILLE — Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Brown, 80, of 1264 Hill-Brown Rd. Jeffersonville will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4 2005 in the Faulk Chapel Baptist Church, Hwy 96, in Twiggs County. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 in the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins.
She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Cornelia Hill Roberts and the widow of the late Marvin Brown, Sr. She attended Twiggs County Schools, a member of the Faulk Chapel Baptist Church where she served as a mother of the church, deaconess, usher, reporter, past president of the mission and past chairperson of the kitchen ministry. She also worked with the Twiggs County Summer Feeding Program. She was retired from the Twiggs County Board of Education after 29 years of service as lunchroom manager.
Survivors include five children; Susie Brown and James (Linda) Brown of Jeffersonville, Vivian (Kenneth) Jackson of Warner Robins, Marvin (Jean) Brown of Nashville, Tenn. and Carl (Angela) Brown of Macon; a sister, Mozell Roberts of Philadelphia, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
The body will lie in state at Community Chapel Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 from 1-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m.

Opal Cravey McCard
ASHBURN — Funeral services for Opal Cravey McCard, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Perry Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. McCard died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany following a sudden illness.
