Allen Dean

CORDELE — Funeral services were held for Allen Dean at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004. The Rev. Jon Earls officiated the service. Burial followed in Bay Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.

James Pate, guitarist, accompanied Kay Ingram as she sang “Amazing Grace” and Lisa Pate as she sang “In the Garden.“ Samantha Dean Cook, Belinda Hernandez and Robin Cook sang “When I Wake Up In the Morning” acapella. Samantha Dean Cook, Mr. Dean’s daughter, read the poem “You Can Shed Tears” and Belinda Dean Hernandez, Mr. Dean’s daughter, read the poem “Footprints In the Sand.”

Pallbearers were Armando Patino, Bert York, Eddie McMichael, Eddie Joe Bryan, Earl Kimsey, Charles Dean and Wayne Beasley.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Carvis Raymond Fowler

CORDELE — Graveside services for Carvis Raymond Fowler were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at Sunnyside Cemetery. The Rev. J.E. Harris conducted the service, and Rainey Family Funeral Services was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Harold Martin, Mike Martin, Hal Martin, Benson Hughes, Ricky Rhodes and Tommy Dean.

Mr. Fowler, 65, of Cordele died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Born December 18, 1938, in Crisp County, he was the son of the late Thomas Calvin Fowler and Velona Bell Downs Fowler. He was retired from Griffin Lumber Company.

Survivors include his step-mother, Mary Fowler of Cordele; a sister, Alice Faye Martin of Rochelle; a brother, Marvin Fowler of Vienna; his life-long companion, Nell Robitzsch of Cordele, and her children, Vicki and Irving Howard, Ronnie Robitzsch and Rhonda and J.C. Cruz, eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends at Rainey Family Funeral Services Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, from 6 until 8 p.m.

David Anthony ‘Tony’ Branch

FORSYTH — Funeral services for David Anthony “Tony” Branch, 58, of Forsyth were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, in Rose Hill cemetery in Ashburn.

Branch died Thursday at his residence following a sudden illness.

Perry Funeral Chapel Inc. of Ashburn was in charge of arrangements.

Woodrow Dowdell

CORDELE — Funeral services for Woodrow Dowdell of Cordele will be held at 3 p.m. today, Dec. 19, 2004, in the sanctuary of the New Beulah Baptist Church in Cobb. Burial will follow in the Sue Walker cemetery in Cobb. The Rev. Lem Wright will be officiating.

Dowdell died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Eutha Wright Dowdell of Cordele; a daughter, Felicia Ardes Dowdell of Concord, N.C.; a sister, Carol (Mike) Dowdell of Cordele; a sister-in-law, Eva Mae Lewis of Cordele; an aunt, Mattie Pearl Bell of Americus; nephews, Maurice A. Dowdell of Cordele, Tommy Lewis of Columbus, and Kerry Lewis of Cordele; and nieces Margaret A. Paul of Cordele, Lillian Lewis of Cordele, Eva L. Smith of Cordele, and Bessie M. Lewis of Cordele.

The J.W. Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Cordele and Vienna are in charge of the arrangmnts.

Rev. Royce C. Adkins

PINEVIEW — Funeral services for Rev. Royce C. Adkins, 78, of Pineview were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel of Frazier & Son Funeral Home. Burial was at 3 p.m. in the Macon Memorial Park.

Rev. Adkins died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, in the Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville.

Rev. Adkins was born in Bleckley County on July 11, 1926. He was the son of the late Aaron Adkins and Ellen Manning Adkins. He was a Baptist minister, and his pastorates were Kelly’s Ferry Baptist Church, Willingham Baptist Church, Buckhead Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Pitts Baptist Church, Memorial Baptist Church, Morningside Baptist Church, Double Heads Baptist Church, Central Baptist Church, Bloomfield Gardens Baptist Church, Rhine Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church, and Antioch Baptist Church. Rev. Adkins was a member of the Tippettville Baptist Church and the Georgia Baptist Convention. He was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife; Corine B. Adkins of Pineview; daughters, Janice Ellen (Wyatt) Faircloth of Rochelle and Joyce Helen (Tom) Perkins of Barnwell, S.C.; sisters, Emmer Lou Howell of Carey, Cora Lee Bryant of Warner Robins, Doris Pettis of Danville and Gladys Dean of Macon; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Frazier & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mary M. Posey

CORDELE - Funeral services for Mary M. Posey were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at Pinecrest Baptist Church. Rev. Don Howell and Rev. Curtis Driver conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements. Ray Faircloth, pianist, played soft music and accompanied Cindy Edalgo as she sang "In The Sweet By And By" and "Morning Has Broken". Pallbearers were Pat Posey, Mark Gregory, Paul Gregory, David Posey, Jon Posey and Benny Posey. iIntermentwas in Zion Hope cemetery in Crisp County.

Nellie Florene Oliver

CORDELE - Funeral services for Nellie Florene Oliver were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at Third Street Baptist Church.. Rev. Fred Jones and Rev. J.T. Smith conducted the service. J. W. Pitts gave a Eulogy and Walter Bartee delivered personal remarks. Music was provided by Jerilyn Cromer, pianist, and Tommie Jean Beacham, organist. Lee Hausler and Sam Nutt sang "It Is Well"and "Lord, I’m Coming Home". Pallbearers were Keith Pitts, Jonathan Oliver, Edwin Oliver, Michael Shirah, Brad Westenfeld, and Leon Lewis. Burial followed the service at Rocky Mount Cemetery.

Allen Dean

CORDELE — Allen Dean of Cordele, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Crisp Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bay Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at the funeral home.

Mr. Dean, a native of Crisp County, GA, was retired from the Crisp County Surveyor's Office. He was the son of the late Thomas Eli Dean and the late Lella Mae Jane Higgins Dean.

Survivors include his wife: Patricia John Dean of Cordele; two daughters: Samantha Dean Cook and Belinda Dean Hernandez both of Cordele; and eight grandchildren.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.

Eunice Jones

CORDELE — Funeral services for Eunice Jones, 75, of Cordele will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, in the chapel of Bentley Carson Memorial Funeral Home in Cordele. Burial will follow in Bethel cemetery in Cordele.

Ms. Jones died Dec. 15, 2004 in Flint River Community Hospital in Montezuma.

Survivors include six children; Ronald Jones and Sandra Jones of Cordele, Jennifer Jones of Palatka, Fl, Beverly Jones of Brooklyn, N.Y., Leslie Jones of Bayshore, N.Y. and David Jones of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.; several grandchildren and great-grands and many other relatives.

Bentley Carson Memorial Funeral Home of Cordele was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Royce C. Adkins

PINEVIEW — Rev. Royce C. Adkins, 78, of 13806 Tippettville Road, Pineview passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Frazier & Son Funeral Home in Rochelle.

Steve Bush

UNADILLA — Funeral services for Steve Bush, 41, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in Double Branch Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 8-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Unadilla has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bush died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, in a Hawkinsville hospital.

Eugene Ford

CORDELE — Funeral services for Eugene Ford will be held a 2 p.m. today, Dec. 8, 2004, in the chapel of J.W. Williams Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Bro. James Wise will officiate the services.

Mr. Ford died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004.

Survivors include his father, Cleve Ford of Cordele; aunts and uncles, Judge (Tommie) Glenn, Annie Harvey, Inez Neal, Henry (Omie) Ford, Wren Ford and Nell Ford all of Cordele, and Annie Bell Ford of New York; a sister-in-law, Diane Ford of Cordele; nieces and nephews, Patricia (John) Cleveland, Regina (Keith) Morgan, Pamela Ford and Sheila Ford all of Cordele, and Eric Ford of Atlanta; and great-nieces and great-nephews, John Jr., Jacqueline, Kimberlee, Tyler, Keith and Nia.

J.W. Williams Funeral Home of Cordele has charge of the arrangements.

John R. Barentine

ROCHELLE — Funeral services for John R. Barentine, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, in Pope City Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pope City Cemetery. The Revs. Dwane Newsome and Tim Hill will officiate the services.

Mr. Barentine died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, in the Carl Vinson Medical Center in Dublin.

Born in Ben Hill County on Dec. 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Robert Barentine and Amanda McDowell. He had lived the greater part of his life in Wilcox County and was a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190 and the Wilcox County Farm Bureau. He was retired from the Harris Group in Cordele with 20 years of service. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Katherine, in 1979.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Will Pope Barentine of Rochelle; sons, Bobby (Farellyn) Barentine of Dublin, and Ronnie Barentine of Rochelle; and two grandchildren, Perry and Paige Barentine of Dublin.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle has charge of the arrangements.

Helen Davis Story

SYLVESTER — Funeral services for Helen Davis Story, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Sylvester. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Dr. Tom Jacobs will officiate the services.

Mrs. Story’s nephew will serve as active pallbearers.

Mrs. Story died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Born in Worth County on Nov. 28, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Henry Gordon Davis, Sr. and Lillie Elizabeth Wingate Davis. She returned to Sylvester from Pelham where she resided since 1948 and served as bookkeeper and office manager for three Pelham School superintendents covering a span of 32 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sylvester and she attended Sunday School at Pine Shadows Retirement Manor, where she was a resident. She is preceded in death by her husband James L. Story Sr. and her parents. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Story was preceded in death by her brother, William H. Davis, Sr. and her sister, Vernita Davis Greene.

Survivors include two daughters; Beth Mullis and husband Ray of Sylvester, Claire Miller and husband Frank Sr. of Cordele; one son, Dr. James L. Story, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Thomasville; two sisters, Agnes Davis King of Sylvester and Lillian Davis Williams Burnett of Sumner; two brothers, Albert H. Davis of Montezuma and Dr. H. Gordon Davis, Jr. of Sylvester; grandchildren, James Mullis, Darrell Mullis, Amy Hollis, Frank Miller, Jr., Brinley Helen Miller, James L. Story, III and Shawn Marie Story and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Banks Funeral home in Sylvester.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Pelham or the First Baptist Church of Sylvester.

Banks Funeral Home of Sylvester is in charge of arrangements.

Linda P. Brooke

SYCAMORE — Graveside services for Linda P. Brooke, 59, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 12, 2004, in Rose Hill cemetery in Ashburn. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Brooke died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at her residence following a long battle with leukemia.

Jayden Michelle Lang

CORDELE — Graveside services for Jayden Michelle Lang, infant daughter of Jason and Stephanie Hall Lang of Cordele, were held Friday, Dec.10, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Penia Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Billy Forrest conducted the services.

The congregation sang “Jesus Loves Me” and “Amazing Grace.”

Arrangements were handled by Rainey Family Funeral Services Inc.

Marie Gisele Denyse (Houle) Weber

CORDELE — Funeral services for Marie Gisele Denyse (Houle) Weber were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Third Street Baptist Church. The Rev. Billy Wayne Priest conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Tommie Jean Beacham, organist, and Amie Tienda, pianist, played soft music. The service was opened with a song recorded by the Rev. Weber. Mrs. Tienda and Tommie Jean Beacham accompanied Todd and Bill Priest as they sang “Amazing Grace” and “Victory In Jesus.” Chaz Weber sang “If You Could See Me Now.” Eulogies were given by Remi Houle and Denita Raye. The service was closed with a recording of the Rev. Weber singing.

Pallbearers were Stephane D’Amours, Chaz Weber, Remi Houle, Bill Priest and Todd Priest.
