John Fred Flanders
Services for John Fred Flanders of Chauncey were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22 in Southerland Funeral Chapel with interment in Friendship Baptist Church cemetery.
The Dr. Billy Lee officiated.
Flanders, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004. He was the son of the late John Frank and Florrie Bazemore Flanders and was married to Emily Strickland Flanders of Chauncey.
A native of Dodge County he was a member and deacon of Friendship Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of Inland Container Corporation, a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Donna Tomberlin of Chauncey; sons, Mike Flanders of Chauncey, Bobby Flanders and Wayne Flanders, both of Macon; sister, Grace Douglas of Chauncey; brother, Jack Strickland; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund, 36 Mitchell Dye Road, Chauncey 31011.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
James Alford Strickland
Services for James Alford Strickland of Jacksonville were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22 at the Chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Jacksonville Methodist Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Jimmy Gilbert officiated.
Strickland, 73, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 at the Coffee Regional Hospital. He was the widower of Lula Mae Register.
A native of Monroe County, Miss., he resided in Jacksonville most of his life. He was retired from the maintenance department at Roydon War, and was a member of Jacksonville Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughters, Mary Ann Harper of Jacksonville and Kay Ussery of Hazlehurst; son, Ray Strickland of Fitzgerald; four grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Etheridge Clements
Services for Etheridge Clements of North Augusta, S.C., were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15 at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home with interment in Pineview Memorial Gardens with military honors.
The Rev. Howard Hart officiated.
Clements, 70, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004. He was married to Shirley Wilkes Clements.
A native of McRae, he had resided in North Augusta for 43 years. He was a Baptist, retired truck driver for Overnight Transportation and a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Charles A. Clements and Randall Clements; daughters, Jill Doyle and Donna Sue Clements, all of North Augusta; brother, Obie Cecil Clements of Brunswick; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home of North Augusta was in charge of arrangements.
James Edward Gillis
Services for James Edward Gillis of McRae, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Turnpike Cemetery.
The Rev. Samuel Gillis and the Rev. James Merritt officiated.
Gillis, 70, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004 in the Telfair Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Clarence Tillman and Rose Lee Ray Gillis.
Survivors include his sons, James Edward II, John Edward and Samuel Nathan Gillis; daughters, Linda, Tammy Len Murray, all of Bradenton, Fla.; sisters, Louise Godrey, Catherine Andelson and Ruby Smith; brother, Charles Gillis; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Murrelene Key Horne
Services for Murrelene Key Horne of McRae, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10 in the Religious Center with interment in the Pine Acres Cemetery.
Horne, 60, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Murray Lee and Electa Collins Reaves.
She was a retired educator of over 30 years in the Telfair County School System, she took great pride in guiding the young people in the school. She left many loved ones to cherish her memories.

John Thomas Clayton “Clay” Jones
Services for John Thomas Clayton “Clay” Jones of Eastman, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 in Southerland Funeral Chapel with interment in Milan Cemetery.
The Rev. Randy Conley and the Rev. Kim Conley officiated.
Jones, 10, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004. He was the son of Terry and Amber Durden Jones of Eastman.
He was a fifth grade student at South Dodge Elementary School, a member of the South Dodge Chorus, a member of the National Junior Beta Club and attended Rhine Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, survivors include his sister, Annalora Jones of Eastman; grandparents, Bessie Durden of Rhine, Glenda Jones-Brown of Eastman, and J.I. Brown; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge.
Thomas Clyde Fulford
Services for Thomas Clyde Fulford of Alamo, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10 in the First Baptist Church with interment in the Alamo City Cemetery.
The Rev. Robert Woodall and the Rev. Ben McFarther officiated.
Fulford, 83, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 in a Macon hospital. He was the son of the late Thomas A. and Victoria Rowland Fulford and was married to Dorothy Fulford.
A native of Alamo, he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He served the Wheeler County Community as a Vocational Agriculture teacher, as probate judge of Wheeler County and as commissioner. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alamo.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Tommy Fulford of Milledgeville, Eddie Fulford of Cedar Grove and John Fulford of Alamo; brothers, Hubert Fulford of Dublin and Herman Fulford of Alamo; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and number of nieces and nephews.
Towns Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge.
Marian Ellison Jenkins
Services for Marian Ellison Jenkins of McRae, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at Corinth C.M.E. Church of McRae with interment in Pine Acres Cemetery.
The Rev. Robert L. Yarbrough Sr. officiated.
Jenkins, 79, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Joe Tillman and Lenora Ellison Williams and was the widow of Robert Jenkins.
A native of Telfair County, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio in her teens and later moved to Detroit, Mich. where she was employed as an accountant at Coopers and Lybrand for 20 years. She moved back to McRae in 1980 and worked at McRae Pharmacy for over 10 years. She was a member at Corinth C.M.E. Church.
Survivors include her niece, Edie Triggs of Cleveland, Ohio; two nephews, George Mitchell of Los Alamitos, Calf. and Melmon May of Apopka, Fla.; 12 great-nieces and nephews; 21 great-great-nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.

Alice Beatrice Fletcher McRae
Services for Alice Beatrice Fletcher McRae of Telfair County, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church with interment in the church.
The Rev. Robert Haywood officiated.
McRae, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Fletcher and Rosa Bell Cooper and was the widow of Vasco McRae Sr. She was preceded in death by two children, Eschol and Ida Lee McRae.
She was a faithful member of Temple Chapel C.M.E. Church where she served on the stewardess board and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Survivors include her children, James McRae, Vasco McRae, Lewis McRae, Marie Pierce, Matilda Scott and Ronald McRae; brothers, Clifford Washington, Oris Fletcher and Leroy Fletcher; sister, Shirley Williams; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Cecil Ross
Services for Cecil Ross of Jacksonville, Fla., were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 at Steward Chapel Baptist Church with interment in Pine Acres Cemetery.
The Rev. Charles Anderson officiated.
Ross died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004. He was the son of Susie Kate Ross and the late John Thomas Ross and was married to Deborah Ross. His son, Cecil Ross Jr. preceded him in death. He was a native of Telfair County.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include his sons, Calvin Ross and Benny Ross; sister, Beaunell Ford; brothers, John Ross, David Ross and Thomas Ross; two granddaughters; a great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
