ROCHELLE — Funeral services for LaVerne G. McDuffie, 67, of Rochelle will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5 in the Christian Hill Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Joel Owens and Rev. Danny Allen will officiate. iIntermentwill be in the Christian Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. McDuffie passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005 in the Pineview Health Care Center.
Mrs. McDuffie was born on August 12, 1937 in Wilcox County. She had lived the past 19 years in Wilcox County, moving from Orlando, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Marion Gibbs and Willie Ledford Gibbs and stepdaughter of the late Malcolm McKinney. She was a homemakers and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Franklin McDuffie of Rochelle; two sons, Larry McDuffie of Hawkinsville and Jerry McDuffie of Birmingham, Alabama; one daughter, Peggy Wakefield of Sanford, Florida; Dillard Gibbs of Rochelle; one sister, Agnes McKinney of Abbeville; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. The family may be contacted at the McDuffie residence at 235 2nd Avenue in Rochelle.

Christine Chaney Byrd
YONKERS, NY — Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Chaney Byrd, formerly of Vienna, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary of the Free Providence Baptist Church. Rev. Walter G. Carter will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Vienna City Cemetery.
Mrs. Byrd passed away on January 30, 2005.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Margaret Byrd of Yonkers, NY; her mother, Charlotte Chaney of Vienna; one sister, Gladys Williams of Vienna; two brothers, Bishop Oscar Lee (Maria) Chaney of Miami, FL, and J.C. Chaney of Vienna; a special friend, Nelson Billanveba of Yonkers, NY; four aunts, Louise White and Odessa West, both of Macon, Christine Powell of Orlando, FL, and Cora Lee Thorpe of Macon; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

James L. Smith
CORDELE — James L. Smith, 88, of Cordele, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005. Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Elder Raybon Lord officiated the services. Burial followed in the Smith cemetery with several family members and friends offering rememberances.
Paula Faye Owens, organist, provided soft music for the service. Bob Lord led the congregation in singing accapela "A Light At The River." Eula Jo Sheffield, Angie Ellis, Peggy Haralson and Julie Partain sang "Amazing Grace" accapela.
Pallbearers were Ken Hauesler, Wayne Moore, Autrey Moore, Ricky Fultz, Rusty Fultz and Chris Holloway.
Mr. Smith was a native of Crisp County, a member of the Primitive Baptist Faith and a farmer.
He was the son of the late George Washington Smith and Kate Elizabeth Folds Smith. He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Story Smith.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Kay and Harry Hurt of Cordele; his four granddaughters and husbands: Sharon and Michael Reeves of Macon, Susan and Brian Sumner of Hahira, Dana and Joe Ward of Cordele, and Virginia and Justin Duke of Macon; his five great granchildren: Kathryn, Virginia Claire, Savannah, Kice and James Michael.

CORDELE — Funeral services for Laura Gail Fuller, 22, of Cordele will be held today at 3 p.m. from the graveside. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Miss. Fuller died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at her residence.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home today from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.

Johnny ‘Cameo’ Dennard Canady
CORDELE — Funeral services for Mr. Johnny “Cameo” Dennard Canady will be held today at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of New Birth Tabernacle Holiness Church in Vienna. George Lee Hudson will be overseeing with Minister Leroy Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel cemetery in Cordele.
Mr. Canady died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Harvey Canady of Cordele; two sons, Courtney B. Canady of Vienna and Ra-Heem Canady of New York; one daughter, Sha-Kena Canady of Cordele; two stepchildren, My-Faula Harvey and John-Qavious Harvey, both of Cordele; his father and stepmother, J.D. and Minnie Canady of Cordele; his mother and stepfather, Betty Armstrong and A.W. Armstrong of Vienna; one sister, Danette (Be-Darious) Bennett of Vienna; three brothers, John D. (Cynthia) Canady, Mr. earnest (Wanda) Canady, both of Unadilla, and Benny (Dorris) Bennett of Vienna; his mother-in-law, Ethelene Tolbert Harvey of Cordele and his father-in-law Robert Harvey of Cordele.

CORDELE - Funeral services for Bruce C. Maddox, 49, were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2005 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service. Rev. Hicks Brown conducted the service and Thelma Hauesler, pianist, played soft music. Pallbearers were Darrell Savage, Buddy Evans, Billy Norton, Benny Willis, Bob Gibson and Elliott Warton. Myrtis Posey Culpepper
CORDELE — Funeral services for Myrtis Posey Culpepper, 83, of Arabi were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005, at Antioch Baptist Church. Dr. John G. Smith, and Rev. Tommy Mason officiated and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
Music was provided by Luann Turner, pianist. She also accompanied members of the Antioch Church Choir as they sang “All Because Of God”, “Amazing Grace”. Pallbearers were Phil Wehlitz, J.B. Odom, Truett Odom, David Cooper, Clay Ward and Bill Hardy. iIntermentwas in Zion Hope Cemetery.
Glenna E. Bartlett
CORDELE — Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Saturday, February 12, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hughes and Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Mrs. Bartlett died Thursday, Feb. 10 at the Crisp Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Bartlett was a native of Wilcox County, a member of the Northern Heights Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Rusha Gibbs and the late Lucinda Henderson Gibbs. She is preceded in death by a grandson, Glenn Bartlett.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Hewlett N. Bartlett of Cordele; two sons, Tommy (Tammy) Bartlett of Cordele and Hewlett D. Bartlett of Americus; a daughter, Sheila B. (William) Buckelew of Cordele; a brother, Louie Gibbs of Vienna; a sister, Sharon Timmons of Cordele and a grandson, Trevor Bartlett of Cordele.

Ronnie Davis
DUBLIN — Funeral services for Ronnie Davis, 61, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Jimmy Thigpen will officiate.
Mr. Davis died Wednesday evening at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Davis was born on August 10, 1943 in Irwin County. He was the son of the late M.C. and Myrtle Clements Davis, Jr. He was the owner and operator of Davis Floor Covering. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his two sons, Preston Scott Davis of Dublin and Rodney Clay (Wanda) Davis of Dublin; three brothers, Jimmie (Nell) Davis of Hawkinsville, Don (Priscille) Davis of Rex, and Wayne M. Davis of Dublin; two sisters, Corinne (Jimmie) Lamb of Macon and Alecia “Lisa” (Wayne) McKinley of Pitts; four grandchildren, Josh Davis, Will Davis, Deven Clay Davis, and Dillion Chase Davis.
Pallbearers will be Ernie Brimacomb, Michael Davis, Jerry Davis, Kevin Davis, Richard Davis and Gary Lamb. Tony Penny and Benny Wright will serve as Honorary Escorts.

LILLY — Funeral services for Evelyn C. West, 75, will be held at 3 p.m. today in Lilly Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
Mrs. West died Wednesday, February 9 in a local hospital.
Born in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Crosby and Sadie Reynolds Crosby. She was a member of Lilly Baptist Church, the WMU and Lilly Woman’s Club. Mrs. West was a homemaker and a retired from the Dooly County Schools as a Paraprofessional.
Survivors include her husband, Cliff West, Jr. of Lilly; three daughters, Susan (Dale) Knight of Cordele, Jamie (Graylen) Hall of Lilly, and Lisa (Johnny) Ellison of Perry; two sisters, Louise Gammell of Columbus and Ruth Chandler of Madison; five grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson and Lee Sinyard of Pinehurst, Tommie DeLoach of Buford, Kal Sinyard of Lilly, and Lauren Bloodworth of Pineview; and five great-grandchildren.

CORDELE — Geraldine Clack Wade, 77, of Cordele died at Crisp Regional Nursing & Rehab on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005.
She was born Friday, November 11, 1927 in Ocilla and was the daughter of the late Green Henry Clack and Cora Lee Watson Clack.
Funeral services will be held Saturday February 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service, with interment to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Debbie Peacock of Hawthorne, Fla., Ronnie and Polly Peacock of Seville, and Bobby and Theresa Wade of Eastman; a daughter, Teresa Wade of Cordele; a brother, Gordon Hubert Clack of Lynchburg, Va.; two sisters, Bernice Clack Rentfrow of Cordele and Bobbie Clack Wallace of Camden Wyoming, Del.; her grandchildren, April Peacock of Cordele, Ron and Jan Peacock of Abbeville, Sonia and Troy Cagle of Ranburne, Ala., Chad Peacock of Cordele, Kelly and Andy Clack of Abbeville, Phaedrae and Chris Williams of Cave City, Ark., Chris and April Wade of Cordele, Jamie Bagwell of Roswell and Dylan Kelly of Eastman; and 15 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by a brother, Herman T. Clack and a sister, Beatrice C. Beaman.

Margaret Stewart Lumpkin
ASHBURN — Funeral services for Margaret Stewart Lumpkin, age 83, will be held Friday, Feb. 11 at 4p.m. at the Harmony Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Harmony Cemetery.
Mrs. Lumpkin died Tuesday at Lee County Health Care following an extended illness.
Mrs. Lumpkin was born in Worth County and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Maggie Elizabeth Balkcom Stewart. She had resided in Turner County for over 60 years. She was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church where she was a member of the church choir, W.M.U. and was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Dorsey and Sandy Lumpkin of Ashburn, Ralph and Donna Lumpkin of Ashburn and Larry and Sharon Lumpkin of Marietta; one daughter and her husband, Marguerite and Buddy Lewis of Cordele; seven grandchildren, Deedy Eidenire of Leslie, Stacy Lumpkin of Lenox, joy Sanders and Nick Lumpkin, both of Dallas, Kristin Dyer of Marietta, Kayla and Jaclyn Lumpkin, both of Ashburn; and great-grandchildren, John, Brian and Rachel Eidenire of Leslie, Madalyn and Mason Sanders, both of Dallas, and Jackson Dyer of Marietta. Mrs. Lumpkin is also survived by two brothers, Robert Stewart of Sumner and Valton Stewart of Albany.

Mrs. Lester died Sunday, Feb. 6 in a local hospital.
She was a native of Clay County and the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lula Glover and the widow of the late Cecil Lester, II. She was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church of Pinehurst and a homemaker.
Survivors include her children, Ruby Lane, Josephine Green, Alvin (Laura) Lester, Tammie (Ransom) Royal and Francine Brown, all of Pinehurst, Margie (Henry) Blunt of Decatur, Cecil (Carol) Lester of Unadilla, Linda (Earl) Jordan and Wilbert (Annie) Lester of Vienna; one sister, Margaret Walker of Locust Grove; 28 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
