B.R. ‘Marvin’ Phillips
CORDELE — B.R. “Marvin” Phillips, 79, of Cordele died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Crisp Regional Hospital.
A native of Wilcox County, he was born July 19, 1925, the son of the late William Lewis and Fannie Lee Rollins Phillips. He was retired from the Albany Marine Corps Supply Center and was a member of Northern Heights Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. iIntermentwill follow at Pitts cemetery in Wilcox County.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Lois Cornelia Yawn Phillips; a sister and her husband, Evelyn and Jack Garrett of Cordele; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

CORDELE — Graveside services for Eugene M. Moss were held at Rock Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Dooly County at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2005. The Rev. Hubert Barfield conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
Harris Goodroe
PINEHURST — Graveside services for Harris Goodroe, 76, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 27, 2005, in Walnut cemetery in Unadilla.
Mr. Goodroe died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at his residence.
He was born in Dooly County on Feb. 21, 1928, the son of the late Charles Bruce Goodroe and Eva Harris Goodroe. He was a member of Pinehurst United Methodist Church where he had served as a Steward. In 1957, he opened Pinehurst Equipment Company and operated it until 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria R. Goodroe of Pinehurst; daughters, Anne Greer of Eastman, and Delle Sheppard of Leesburg; a brother, Charles B. Goodroe of Unadilla; his grandchildren, Bill (Kristi) Greer, Matt Sheppard, Molly Sheppard and Julie G. (Gordon) Gardner; and two great-grandchildren, Ansley Greer and Ava Greer.
The family will greet friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CORDELE — Funeral services for Sallie Putman will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in the sanctuary of Beautiful Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Lorenda Ray will officiate the services.
Mrs. Putman died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005.
Survivors include a grandson whom she reared, Sammie (Liza) Barrett Sr. of Cordele; a brother, Frank Lester of Cordele; grandchildren, Charles (Geraldine) Putman, Jerry Lawrence and Regina Johnson all of Cordele, Willie (Estella) Lawrence of Americus, Tomeika (Jonathan) Johnson of Lilly, Samantha (Byrd) Tripp of Virginia Beach, Va., Famtha Barrett and Sammie Barrett Jr. both of Rochester, N.Y.; a son-in-law, Willie Lawrence Jr. of Cordele; sisters-in-law, Elsie Hillsman of Fort Valley, Lula Bell Weaver of Atlanta, Mae Putman of Cordele, Lizzie (L.C.) Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa., and Dannie Mucklee of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nieces, Aliforina Lester of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Katie Mae Hillsman of Fort Valley.

UNADILLA — Funeral services for Sandra Jean Jackson will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in the Unadilla CME Church. Burial will be private. The Rev. Robert C. Taylor will officiate the services.
Mrs. Jackson died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in a local hospital.
A native of Dade County, Fla., she and her husband had lived in Dooly County since 2000. She was a member of Greater St. Matthew Holiness Church of Florida, and attended Dade County public schools. She was preceded in death by her father, the late James W. Williams.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Jackson III of Unadilla; a son, Steverick Jackson of Homestead, Fla.; step-children, Steve Jackson IV, Jocelin Collier and Natasha Jackson all of Leisure City, Fla.; her mother, Lillie E. Williams of Unadilla; two brothers, Harvey (Theresa) Williams of Texas, and James (Karen) Williams of Columbus; her mother-in-law, Geraldine Brown of Unadilla; two brothers-in-law; four aunts; an uncle and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

WARWICK - Funeral services for Opal B. Odom were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Warwick First Baptist Church. Rev. Roy Gibbs conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements. Marilyn Bass, organist and Susie Pendley, pianist played soft music. Mrs. Pendley accompanied Carolyn Moore, Leon Moore, Tap Perry and Christine Holmes as they sang “I Want Us To Be Together In Heaven”. Trey Giddens, grandson of Mrs. Odom, sang “I Can Only Imagine”. Pallbearers were Leon Moore, Tap Perry, Donnie Watson, Jack Bass, Eldridge Bowen and Kim Barnes. Burial was in Warwick Methodist Cemetery.

UNADILLA — Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Armstrong will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Brown Chapel Baptist Church in Unadilla. Burial will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. Rev. J.T. Hill will officiate.
Mrs. Armstrong died Wednesday, Feb. 23 in the Pinehill Nursing Center in Byromville.
She was born in Crawford County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Tralor. She was the widow of the late Bubba Armstrong.
Survivors include her niece and nephew, Curtis Jones of Unadilla and Mattie Jones of Rochester, NY; two great nieces Bernice Burrough and Ernestine Griffin of Rochester, NY; a host of great-great nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Young died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Crisp Regional Hospital.
Born in Turner County October 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late A.J. and Mattie Pearl Johnson Davis. Mrs. Young was a homemaker and a member of Oakgrove Baptist Church in Turner County.
She is survived by her husband, William Young; one daughter, Linda Bellamy Duckworth of Cordele; four sons, David Bellamy and his wife Debra, Ricky Bellamy, and Jay Young, all of Cordele and Terry Young and his wife Amanda of Vienna; two sisters, Juanita Johnson of Cordele and Sue Wood of Douglasville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bowen died Friday, Jan. 28 at Leisure Life in Unadilla.
Born in Dooly County, he was the son of the late Oscar E. Bowen and Annie Porter Bowen. He was a retired farmer, a member of Liberty Baptist Church, the Men’s Sunday School Class and Millwood Masonic Lodge # 198.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Lee) Wiley of Pinehurst; two sisters, Rosa Lee Peavy and Laverne Bowen, both of Pinehurst; one brother, Charles Bowen of Pinehurst; two grandchildren, Wayne (Gina) Wiley of Hawkinsville and LeSan (Del) Kimbrough of Pinehurst; and four great-grandchildren, Kallie Kimbrough, Wiley Kimbrough, Carson Wiley, and Gracen Wiley. His wife, Audrey Joiner Bowen, preceded him in death in 1993.

PALMETTO, FLA — Funeral services for Albert Watts Powers Jr., 78, formerly of Seville, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Wilcox County. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Powers died Thursday, Jan. 27.
Born on September 5, 1927, in Seville, he moved to Manatee County in 1995 from Gulfport. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Bradenton.
He is survived by five daughter, Belinda P. Hulen of Bradenton, Elizabeth P. Altman of Stuart, Laurine P. Goldberg of Huntsville, Ala., Stephanie P. Perez of Ocoee, and Melanie P. Hunter of Orlando; three sister, Anna Powers of Hagerstown, Md. Joyce Tillirson of Fayetteville, and Reita Powers of Atlanta; cousin, Ramona Higgins of Statesboro; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ms. Salaz died Saturday, Jan. 29 at her residence.
Born in Hawkinsville, she was the daughter of the late Allie English and Mozelle Rucker English. She was a homemaker and a member of County Line Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Mitchell Sinyard of Hawkinsville, and Tony Cobb of Roberta; one daughter, Fannie Jespersen of Snellville; three sisters, Betty Carroll of Warner Robins, Louise Shelton and Pam Scott, both of Hawkinsville; and eight grandchildren.
