Mary Wood Gregory

VIENNA — Funeral services for Mary Wood Gregory, 93, of Vienna will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Vienna United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Vienna city cemetery.

Mrs. Gregory died Saturday, March 19, 2005 in a local hospital.

Born in Covington, she was the daughter of the late William Hulbert Gaither and Leila Biggers Gaither. She was a homemaker, a member of Vienna United Methodist Church and the widow of Hardy Gregory, Sr.

Survivors include; sons, Alton Gregory (Peggy) of Milledgeville, Hardy Gregory, Jr. (Carolyn) of Vienna, Charlie Gregory (Jean Marie) of Vienna, and William Hulbert “Hub” Gregory (Betty Sue) of Orange Park, Fla.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will greet friends on Monday, March 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dooly Campground, c/o Kathie Peavy, 2410 Forehand Road, Vienna, Ga. 31092.

Lillie Mae Zackery

CORDELE — Funeral services for Lillie Mae Zackery will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, in the sanctuary of Fort Early Baptist Church. The Rev. E.B. Monford will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the Fort Early Cemetery.

Mrs. Zackery died Friday, March 4, 2005.

Survivors include her brother, Gentle (Gloria) Lee of Philadelphia, Pa.; three nieces, Emma Louise Washington and Carol Johnson both of Cordele, and Mattie El of Philadelphia, Pa.; special nieces and nephews whom she helped rear, Larosstin Johnson and Lee Ray both of Atlanta, Marquis (Bernetta) Johnson of Fontana, Calif., Reginald Washington, Catherlena Washington and Carmenta Washington all of Philadelphia, Pa., and Jaden Johnson of Cordele; a devoted cousin, the Rev. Nathaniel (Mary) Jackson of Cordele; and special friends, Eva Morgan and Emma Everett both of Cordele.

J.W. Williams Funeral Home of Cordele has charge of the arrangements.

Leegola F. Lucas

CORDELE — Funeral services for Leegola Forehand Lucas will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, in the sanctuary of Beulahland Baptist Church. The Rev. Wade McCray will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the Forest Chapel cemetery in Pinehurst.

Mrs. Lucas died Friday, March 4, 2005.

Survivors include her children, Walter (Dorothy) Leonard of Baltimore, Md., Celetha (Roosevelt) Harris and Carl Leonard both of Valdosta, Curtis (Sandra) Lucas and Zilmer (Betty) Lucas both of Cordele; a sister, Mary Lizzie (Hudie) Atkins of Cordele; grandchildren, Tassa (Earnest) Sharp of South Carolina, Charles (Briggette) Harris, Twanna Leonard, Walter Leonard, Yolonda (Sam) Childes, Carl (Iris) Redding, Tyrone Lucas, Jeffery Lucas, Trey Lucas, Jasmine Lucas and Darryl Lucas all of Cordele, Greg (Malisa) Harris and Arletha Harris both of Valdosta, Carol Leonard, Deangelo Lucas, Donte’ Lucas and Curtis Lucas all of Atlanta, Erika Leonard, Tonya Leonard and Kecha Leonard all of Baltimore, Md.; nieces, Shirley (Robert Sr.) Cornelious of Jeffersonville, and Debra (Min. Choice) Cobb of Cordele; nephews, James (Rosale) Crane Sr. and Roy (Betty) Crane; her god-daughter, Janice Thomas of Valdosta; 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ruther Lean Taylor

ROCHELLE — Funeral services for Ruther Lean Taylor will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, in the sanctuary of Hosley Temple CME Church. The Rev. Melvin Everson will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Evergreen Church cemetery in Rochelle.

Mrs. Taylor died Friday, March 4, 2005.

Survivors include a daughter, Bernita (David McFarlane) Taylor of Columbus; brothers and sisters, James Edward (Lena) Reeves of Abbeville, Willie Clarence (Annette) Thomas, Dolly (Riley) Thrower, Ronald (Mary) Thrower and Lenora McCormick all of Rochelle, Deborah (Melvin) Barlow of Fayetteville, Louvon (John) Wright of Riverdale, Margaret (Alvin) Smith of Locust Grove, Vivian Tolbert of Jonesboro, and Gracie (Melvin) of Cleveland, Ohio; aunts and uncles, James (Maggie) Hunt of Abbeville, Mathis (Fannie) Hunt of Delray Beach, Fla., Oscar (Katie) Hunt of West Palm Beach, Fla., Walter (Thelma) Hunt of Rivera Beach, Fla., and Lola B. Hunt of Detroit, Mich.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernest Taylor of Vero Beach, Fla., Frank (Wylene) Taylor of Chicago, Ill., and Lenamae Taylor of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandsons, Sekou Kenyatte of Columbus, and Kamau Kenyatte of Washington, D.C.; and her god-mother, Bettie Reid Simmons of Washington, D.C.

Carl McKenzie III

WARNER ROBINS — Funeral services for Carl McKenzie III, 21, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, in the Evergreen Baptist Church in Pinehurst. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Church cemetery in Pinehurst. The Rev. David Thomas will officiate the services.

Mr. McKenzie died Saturday, March 5, 2005, in the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins.

A native of Dooly County, he was educated in the Dooly County schools and was a member of the New Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Byromville.

Survivors include his wife, Sharonica McKenzie of Warner Robins; a son, Xavious J. Black of Vienna; three daughters, Carlisha A. McKenzie of Cordele, Joyclyn C. McKenzie and Carla A. McKenzie of Warner Robins; step-children, Zebedee Wade III and Jermaine Taylor of Unadilla; his parents, Joy and Carl McKenzie Jr. of Vienna; two brothers, Jamal M. McKenzie and Nicholas (Kentrella) McKenzie of Byromville; his grandparents, Mary Ruth Daniels of Pinehurst, Alfaye and Clarence Williams of Byromville; his great-grandmother, Elnora Hamilton of Warner Robins; and several aunts, uncles and other relatives.

The family may be contacted at the home of Mary Ruth Daniels, Calhoun and Lonesome Pine Road in Pinehurst.

Lillie Kate Snyder

CORDELE — Funeral services for Lillie Kate Snyder were held in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005. The Revs. James Spires and Charles Cobb officiated.

Barry Coffee played soft music and accompanied himself as he sang “Sweet Beulah Land” and “Amazing Grace.”

Pallbearers were Charles Bagwell, Owen Bagwell, Terry Bagwell, Billy Green, Randy Coffee and Floyd Johnson.

Gene McBryant, Harold Bodrey and Johnny Bodrey served as honorary pallbearers.

Burial was in Zion Hope Methodist cemetery in Crisp County.

Rainey Family Funeral Service of Cordele had charge of the arrangements.

Charles Reynold Torres Jr.

CORDELE — A memorial service for Charles Reynold Torres Jr. was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Father Lawrence A. Lucree conducted the rites and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Joe and Sara Lee sang “Song Of Farewell, ” “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Mr. Lee accompanied on the guitar.

The Committal Service was in Sunnyside Cemetery.

A Rosary was said Friday at 7 p.m. at the church.

Tammy A. O’Herron

Perry — Tammy A. O’Herron, 29, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in Macon Northside Hospital.

Services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Saturday following the service at McCullough Funeral Home.

Mrs. O’Herron was born in Warner Robins, was a member of Bonaire Church of Christ and also attended Warner Robins High School.

Survivors include her husband, Heath O’Herron; daughter, Heather Savannah O’Herron of Perry; father, Kelly Boothe of Warner Robins; mother and step-father, Danny and Nadine Hubert of Warner Robins; brothers, Daniel Hubert and Christopher Hubert both of Warner Robins, and Kelly Dean Boothe of Perry; grandmothers, Peggy Boothe of Warner Robins, and Jean Hubert of Davenport, Iowa.

McCullough Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Cecelia D. Martin

CORDELE — Funeral services for Cecelia D. Martin were held in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, with the Revs. Lawton Sammons and Bill Kent officiating.

Marcene Freeman, pianist, played soft music and accompanied the Rev. Royce Freeman and herself as they sang “In The Garden.” The service was closed as they sang “Amazing Grace.”

Pallbearers were Heath Register, Jimmy Maxey, Charles Cape, Arthur Dawson, James Hughes and Jerry Fletcher.

The committal service was in Penia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ronnie Musgrove

BAINBRIDGE — Funeral services for Ronnie Musgrove, 61, will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 11, 2005, in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bainbridge. Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery. Elders Emory Carlton and Evan Blanton will officiate the services.

Mr. Musgrove died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Memorial Manor.

Pallbearers will be Paul Kelly, Edward Kelly, Wayne Blanton, Billy Bryant, David Evans and Joseph Kelly.

Born Nov. 7, 1943, in Decatur County, he was the son of the late Perry and Lucy Yawn Musgrove. He lived most of his life in Decatur County, with the exception of a short time that he lived in Albany. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist faith and was a bead builder in the tire and rubber industry.

Survivors include his wife, Luz Baculanta Musgrove of Bainbridge; a daughter, Wendy Causey of Worth County; a son, Ronnie Musgrove Jr. of Cordele; a sister, Margaret Bryant of Worth County; brothers, Eddie Musgrove of Faceville, and Curtis Musgrove of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Cox Funeral Home of Bainbridge has charge of the arrangements.

Lily Crum Doster

ROCHELLE — Lily Crum Doster, 89, died April 7, 2005 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 27, 1915 in Cordele and was the daughter of the late Judge “Dar” David Alpheus Remer Crum and Sarah Florence Hamilton Crum. She graduated with the highest honors from Cordele High School and Middle Georgia College. She received an honor scholarship to Brenau College in Gainesville where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Speech and Drama. While at Brenau, she worked as Assistant to the Dean, was a member of Cushman Club and Delta Zeta. Lily taught in Rochelle, Pitts, Dalton and Cordele. Her students often said, “Bum, Bum, Bum, Here she comes, William Lily Shakespeare Crum”. She was a member of the General David Blackshear Daughter of the American Revolution, The Wilcox Rifles United Daughters of the Confederacy, Dogwood Garden Club, Rochelle Woman’s “Priscilla” Club, and Rochelle Business and Professional Woman’s Club, Senior President of National Society Children of American Revolution, as well as being a national accredited flower Judge and member of Middle and South Georgia Judges Councils.

On November 26, 1942, Lily married Norman Brown Doster. They had three children. Their son, Jerome Brown Doster, died in 1985. She is survived by daughters, Norma Lilaine Chastain, married to Jack Terry Chastain of Rochelle and Letsa Sarah Mallette Marietta of Atlanta; a brother, Remer Hamilton Crum and Emily Fisher Crum of Atlanta; grandchildren, Jackson Todd and Lorrie Chastain of Rochelle, Phillip Doster and Lisa Chastain of Athens, Ryan Hamilton Marietta of Atlanta, and Fisher Crum Marietta of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Bailey Rey Chastain of Athens, Doster Chase Chastain of Athens, and Jackson Todd Chastain, Jr. of Rochelle; and her devoted and trusted companion, Barbara Benjamin of Rochelle.

A family service was held at First United Methodist Church of Cordele on April 9, at 9 a.m. with Lee Guerry officiating and music by Norma Turton. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. at Morningside cemetery in Rochelle with Lee Guerry officiating. A violin solo of “Amazing Grace” was played by Audrey Cason and Carol Harden led friends in singing “Into My Heart”.

Honorary escorts were her former students: John Alva Gordon, Charles Turner, Norton Futch, Mary Lou McDonald, James T. Lee, Rudolph McDonald, Charles Kelley, Elsie Rhodes, Tommie Fenn Kelley and Milton Whittle.

Frazier and Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
