William Theodore “Ted” Hubbard
CORDELE — Graveside services for William T. “Ted” Hubbard, Sr. were held at 4 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2005 at Arabi Cemetery. The Rev. Teddy Hubbard, the Rev. Wayne Poole and Andrew Blanton conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
Rev. Hubbard and Mike Hughes, guitarists, accompanied Judy Hubbard, Christy Blanton, David Dixon and Elizabeth LaPorte as they sang “He Touched Me” and “Broken Pieces”. The service was closed as the group sang “Go Rest High On That Mountain”.
Pallbearers were Timothy Hubbard, Jerry Lane Cardin, Nicholas Cardin, Charlie Akins, Bobby Cherry and Cliff Souther.
Mr. Hubbard died at his residence on Saturday, April 9, 2005.
He was born Saturday, July 28, 1934 in Thomas County and was the son of the late William Henry Hubbard and Frankie Frances Kent Hubbard. He was retired from Hubbard’s Junk Yard and a member of Free Spirit Fellowship Church.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Teddy and Judy Hubbard of Cordele; two daughters and their husbands, Sylvia Hubbard and Robert Coker of Cordele and Denise and Jerry Cardin of Benton, Tenn.; two sisters, Nell Charland of Cordele and Doris Newton of Lagrange; grandchildren, Wayne and Patricia Hubbard, Christy and Andrew Blanton, Amy and Bobby Cherry, Pamula Adams, Amanda and Jason Register, Twila Adams, Nicholas Cardin, Christy and Morris Grimes, Jerry Lane and Jenny Cardin, Timothy and Amy Hubbard, Lamar Pettis and Larry Pettis; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Hubbard, Zachary Arnett, Heather Arnett, Tyler Arnett, Anthony Hooper, Gregory Adams, Marshall Adams, Madison Adams, Emily Grimes, Miranda Grimes, Anna Jackson, McKayla Jackson, Christen Jackson, Chesney Hubbard, Emily Elaine Pettis, Samantha Dorough and Karlee McSwain; and a special friend, Vera Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Poole Hubbard, a daughter, Carolyn Elaine Hubbard Pettis, and a brother, Rev. James Howard Hubbard.
The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday, April 10, 2005 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. and Monday from 3 p.m. until time to depart for the cemetery.
Mattie V. Culpepper
VIENNA — Funeral services for Mattie V. Culpepper, 95, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Vienna. iIntermentwill follow in Vienna City Cemetery.
She died Monday, April 11 in a local hospital.
Born in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late John Irwin Veal and Mary Pauline Holt Veal. She was a retired nurse, a member of First Baptist Church of Vienna and the widow of John Ross Culpepper.
Survivors include her step-daughter, Dorothy Culpepper of Oconomowoc, WI; a sister, Pauline Churchwell of Vienna; and step-grandchildren, Richard Miller of Brentwood, TN, Matt Miller of Jacksonville, FL and Sabrina Fagan of Phoenix, AZ.

Mary Hendrix Smith
HICKORY, NC — Mary Frances Hendrix Smith, 73, of Conover, NC, died Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC.
Born January 10, 1932 in Crisp County, she was a daughter of the late James Bennie Hendrix and Bessie Powell Hendrix Turner. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Charles E. Turner; brothers, Thomas Hendrix, general Hendrix and Wesley Hendrix and a sister, Christine Smith.
Survivors include her husband, George Ivines Smith of the home; son, Bennie Smith of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Joe Catalana of Conover, NC; sister, Odelle Hefner of Hickory, NC; brothers, Arthur Hendrix of California, Marvin Hendrix of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Fairgrove Baptist Church in Hickory, NC, with the Rev. Bobby Langston officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 from 7-8 p.m. at Fairgrove Baptist Church of Hickory, NC.

WINTER HAVEN, FL — Uriah Simon (Sam) Keen, Jr., 85, formerly of Abbeville, died Saturday at Life care Center in Winter Haven, FL.

CORDELE — Funeral services for Eddie Thompson were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. Dr. John Smith, III and the Rev. J.E. Harris officiated the service.
Luann Turner, pianist, played soft music and accompanied the Antioch Baptist Church Choir as they sang “In The Garden”.
Pallbearers were Ralph Phillips, Vince Thompson, Terry Thompson, Scotty Raines, Kyle Raines and Charles Hardin.
The Committal Service was held at Zion Hope cemetery in Crisp County. Bobby Thompson presented the American Flag to Mrs. Thompson. Masonic rites were conducted by Cordelia Lodge #296 F&AM.;
A.C. “Shorty” Bailey
CORDELE - Funeral services for A. C. “Shorty” Bailey, 88, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The Rev. Kenneth Murphy and the Rev. Ansley Jordan officiated.
Marcene Freeman, pianist, played soft music. She accompanied the Rev. Royce Freeman and herself as they sang “One Day At A Time” and “What Will I Leave Behind?”.
Pallbearers were members of the Cordele Fire Department, Chief Eugene Stephens, Capt. Gus Telfair, Capt. Eddie Stubbs, Lt. Coley Britt, and Insp. Frank Bullington, Jr.
Mr. Bailey was laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. He was carried there on one of the Cordele Fire Department’s Fire Units that was in operation during the time he served as Fire Chief.
E.J. Green
CORDELE — Funeral services E.J. Green will be heldat 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2005 in the Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, veterans section. The Rev. K.M. Williams will officiate.
Mr. Green died April 20, 2005, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
The son of the late Mrs. Iola W. Anderson and Eddie Green, he was born Sept. 29, 1958. A 1976 graduate of Crisp County High School, he attended the Cedar Program before joining the Army in 1984. He was employed at the Big Al’s grocery and was a member of Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Iola W. Anderson and his brother, Jeffery Green.
Survivors include his companion, Jennifer Doster; children, Ulekya Hill, Andrea Felton, Carlos Woods, Tanika Green and Rasheeda Green; sisters, Mary (R.C.) Henderson, Shirley F. Green, Minnie (Richard) Sanders, Linda Gail Green, Geraldine Johnson Ray, all of Cordele, Betty Peterson of Jonesboro, Geneva Johnson Edwards of Rochester, NY, and Dorothy Johnson of New Orleans, LA; brothers, Bobby Anderson, Anthony Green, Kermit (Lillian) Green, Ricky (Marlanya) Anderson and Benjamin Green, all of Cordele, Robert Johnson and Elijah Johnson, both of Rochester, NY, and Freddie Johnson of Cordele; aunts and uncles, Mary Revere of Atlanta, Lizzie Banks of Hapeville, and Thomas James Wilson of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

WARNER ROBINS — Adam H. Greene, 80, died on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Elberta Health Care. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins. Burial will be held at 4:00 PM in Woodlawn cemetery in Eastman, GA. Visitation will be Friday, April 22, 2005, from 6 - 9 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Mr. Greene was born in Cordele. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins. He was a clerk of the Superior Court for 21 years and worked in the District Attorney's office of Bibb County for 20 years. He was a third district Superior Court clerk of the year, chairman of the Superior Court Clerk Association for three years, member of the Jurors Association, and the Macon Bar Association Liberty Bell award recipient in 1989. Adam was a former member of the Exchange Club of Macon and the Mable Lodge. He also served in the Reserve National Guard for 39 years and was active duty in World War II. Mr. Greene has a 33rd degree Mason with a 50 year pin.
His parents, Monroe and Annie Greene; brother, Loron Greene; former wife Virginia Greene, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mary W. Greene of Warner Robins; step- children, Rev. Garry Willis (Gail) of Macon, Michael Windham of Unadilla, Nancy Gardner (Greg) of Warner Robins, Wanda Darley of Macon, Brian Windham of Atlanta, and George Windham (Sherry)of Warner Robins; niece, Laverne Smith (Ben) of Abbeville, Alabama; nephew, Billy Greene (Frances)of Cordele; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ridley died April 9, 2005.
