Lena McAlum Sears
Services for Lean McAlum Sears of Alamo, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10 in the Alamo United Methodist Church with interment the Alamo City Cemetery.
Sears, 91, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 in a Florida hospital. She was the daughter of the late R.R. and Jeanette Corbett McAlum and was the widow of John H. Sears.
A native of Wheeler County, she retired as a teacher’s aide from the Wheeler County Schools and was a member of the Alamo United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn McClellan of Blountstown, Fla.; granddaughters, Lisa West of Panama City, Fla. and Lynn McClellan of Southport, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Towns Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge.
Inez Elizabeth Williams Toland
Services for Inez Elizabeth Williams Toland of Riverdale, Ga., were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at Corinth C.M.E. Church of McRae with interment in the Helena Cemetery.
The Rev. Robert L. Yarbrough Sr. officiated.
Toland, 88, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004. She was the daughter of the late William and Anna Williams and was the widow of Elton Cohen Toland.
A native of McRae, she lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. for many years where she retired from Sperry Gyroscope. After retirement, she returned to Georgia.
Survivors include her daughter, Frances Ann; nieces, nephews, grand and great-nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge.
Cecil B. Covington
Services for Cecil B. Covington of Fitzgerald were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel.
Covington, 60, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004 at his residence. He was the son of Mildred Dover Covington and the late Oliver Covington. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Lee Covington and a sister, Mamie Elizabeth Brooks.
Born in Jesup, he moved to Fitzgerald in 1980 after retiring from the U.S. Army as Sergeant First Class. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and was a self-employed mechanic.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his brothers, Steve Covington of Watha, N.C. and Ray Brooks of McRae; sisters, Evelyn Poole of Dublin, Virginia Ann Williams of Alamo and Ellen Merritt of Bladenboro, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Paulk Funeral Home of Fitzgerald was in charge.
Hilda T. Callaway
Graveside services for Hilda T. Callaway of Eastman were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5 at Oak Grove Cemetery.
The Rev. Ray Harris officiated.
Callaway, 81, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004. She was the daughter of the late L.S. and Eunice Lee Hamilton Thigpen and was born in Wheeler County.
Survivors include her children, Donald W. Callaway of Scotland, Hilda Diane Callaway and Deborah Mae McDaniel, both of Eastman; sisters, Pat Johnson of Warner Robins and Sallie Dixon of Vidalia; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Robert Ottis Camp
Services for Robert Ottis Camp of Glenwood, were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Lamar Rabun and the Rev. Thad Harvey officiated.
Camp, 86, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004.
Born in Splunge, Miss., he was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and was retired from Ero Manufacturing in Hazlehurst.
Survivors include his daughters, Bonnie Brown of Helena and Judy Pearman of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sister, Edell Young of Amory, Miss.; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

John D. Dykes
Services for John D. Dykes of Douglas, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1 in Sweet Home Baptist Church in Milan with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Floyd Musgrove and Bobby Ryals officiated.
Dykes, 45, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004. He was the son of the late Milton Dykes of Milan and Betty Dykes Pitts of Milan. He was married to Kathy Peacock.
Born in Houston County, he had lived in Coffee County for the past 26 years. He was a member of Trinity Nondenominational Church and was a cabinet maker.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include his son, John Derrick Dykes of Douglas; sister, Lounell White of McRae; brothers, Seab Dykes of Warner Robins and Bennie Dykes of Milan; step-children, Melissa Smith, Amy Justice, and Billy Ray Swift Jr., all of Toccoa; one grandchild and five step-grandchildren.

Charles Clark Jones
Services for Charles Clark Jones of Helena, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with with interment in New Bethel Church Cemetery.

Jones, 56, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004. He was the son of the late Archie and Mary Purvis Jones.
He was born in Dodge County and was a retired meat cutter.
Survivors include his son, Doug Jones of Dublin; daughter, Pam Jones Logue of Helena; brother, Lenard Harrelson; sisters, Harvelyn Howard and Willie Mae Burch, both of Helena; and seven nieces and nephews.

Alice Beatrice Fletcher McRae
Services for Alice Beatrice Fletcher McRae of Telfair County, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Robert Haywood officiated.
McRae, 65, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Fletcher and Rosa Bell Cooper and was the widow of Vasco McRae Sr. She was preceded in death by two children, Eschol and Ida Lee McRae.
She was a faithful member of Temple Chapel C.M.E. Church where she served on the stewardess board and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Survivors include her children, James McRae, Vasco McRae, Lewis McRae, Marie Pierce, Matilda Scott and Ronald McRae; brothers, Clifford Washington, Oris Fletcher and Leroy Fletcher; sister, Shirley Williams; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Billy R. Pennington
Services for Billy R. Pennington of Rhine, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 in Rhine United Methodist Church with interment in Bay Springs Cemetery.
Pennington, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004 at his residence. He was the son of the late Prentis Pennington and Willie Dollar Pennington and was married to Leneta Dennis Pennington. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Hagwell and a brother, Keith Pennington.
He was a native of Lamar County, Ala. and was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, as former executive director of Wilcox County ASCS Office and a past member of Dodge County Golf Club. He was a Sunday school teacher, lay speaker, member and former chairman of Official Board of Rhine United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Beth Wilker of Atlanta, Melissa Brown of Rhine, and Olivia Dunaway of Dallas, Texas; sister, Ruth Molloy; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Eugene E. Smith
Services for Eugene E. Smith of Helena, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 at Lowe’s Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Smith, 80, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004. He was the son of the late Joseph Herman and Eva Lois Poole Smith. He was retired from Champion International of Lumber City.
Survivors include his sisters, Eunice Coleman of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Maude Thompson of Helena, and Connie Stroble of Gainsville, Fla.; one brother, Henry B. Smith of Mays Landing, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
