Juanita A. ‘Nita’ Roberts
CORDELE — Funeral services will be held for Juanita A. “Nita” Roberts at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, in the Cordele First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
A native of Tift County, Mrs. Roberts died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
A retired comptroller for Cordele Implement Company, she was a member of the Cordele First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Roberts.
Survivors include her husband, Guy Velpoe Roberts Jr. of Cordele; two daughters, Sandra R. Jones of Winston Salem, N.C., and Rhonda R. Summerlin of Cody, Wyo.; a daughter-in-law, Kay C. Roberts of Cordele; brothers, James C. Abbott of Hernando, Fla., and Frank E. Abbott of Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Betty A. Robbins of Durant, Okla., and Grace A. Neudeck of Muskego, Wis.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Chloe Irene Culpepper Posey
GRAY — Funeral services for Chloe Irene Culpepper Posey, 80, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church cemetery in Crisp County.
Mrs. Posey died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in a local nursing home.
The daughter of the late Thomas Wayne Culpepper and Effie Taylor Culpepper, Mrs. Posey was born in Crisp County on Dec. 12, 1925, and was a longtime resident of Macon. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Barry Posey, and a son, Mark Irving Posey.
Survivors include a daughter, Christine P. Moore of Jones County; a son, Randall Keith Posey of Jones County; a sister, Betty Davis of Demopolis, Ala.; a brother, Wayne Culpepper of New York; grandchildren, Clay Moore, Kristin Moore, Kevin Posey, Jason Posey, Jody Posey, Kim Dixon, Jennifer Norris, William Thomaston, Matthew Posey and Christopher Posey; and her great-grandchildren, Toby Posey, Kevin Posey and Keith Posey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to The ARC, 4664 Sheraton Drive, Macon, Ga., 31210.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert Lee Foster
DETROIT, Mich. — Funeral services for Robert Lee Foster, 56, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, in Shiloh Baptist Church in Henderson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Allen Foster Sr. will officiate the services.
Mr. Foster died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, in Detroit.
A native of Dooly County, he attended Dooly County Schools and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include his children, Bobby Foster, Christopher Foster and Dexter Foster all of Unadilla, Lytrail Foster of Byromville, Roshika Clayton of Dooling, and Earlisha Foster of Dayton, Ohio; his father, Pierce Foster Sr. of Henderson; his siblings, Helen (James) Brown and Eddie (Bridgette) Foster of Unadilla, Pauline (Pastor Vickery) Williams, Lillie Fitzgerald, Linda (Tommie) Robinson, Donna (Montice) Jones and Demitris Garner all of Warner Robins, and Colleen (Charles) McGhee of Henderson, Pierce (Jackie) Foster Jr., the Rev. Lawrence Charles Jones
CORDELE — Funeral services for Lawrence Charles Jones will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, in the sanctuary of St. Paul Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Elder Oweta Hegemen will officiate the services.
Mr. Jones died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005.
The processional will be led by Elder Hegemen with the prelude by Pearle Booker and Ann Green. “Amazing Grace” will be sung and scripture and prayer will be given by Elder Hegemen. Min. Jeff Wilson will offer words of reflection and Gail Williams will perform a solo. The family will be presented with an African-American heirloom Bible as a keepsake on behalf of the funeral home staff.
Survivors include his children, Charell Jones of Cordele, Anthony Jones of Atlanta, and Kimberly Jones of Albany; his parents, Lonnie and Pauline Jones of Cordele; sisters, Darlene Jones and Denise B. Kendrick both of Cordele; brothers, William (Brenda) Jones, Larry (Brenda) Jones, Nathaniel Rhodes, Dewayne Barner and Ralph Barner all of Cordele; uncles, Charlie Ross and Elbert Jones both of Cordele, and Charles Daniels of Atlanta; a special friend, Christine; six grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.

Julian Elwyn Wade
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Julian Elwyn Wade died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in Palm Garden Nursing Home, Jacksonville, Fla.
Born Nov. 27, 1922, in Pavo, he was the son of the late Charlie and Elah Bedgood Wade. He lived most of his adult life in Cordele, and Houston, Texas, but had resided in Jacksonville since 2003. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in India, and was co-owner of Houston Food Brokers in Houston, Texas, until his retirement in 1995.
He is survived by daughters, Bonnie Faulk of Arlington, Va., Jill Powell of Thomasville, Ava Wilson of Macon, Terri Wade of Youngsville, La., and their mother, Nelle Wade of Woodbridge, Va.; daughters, Phyllis Henderson of Tow, Texas, Lynn Lewis and Rocky Wade both of Manvel, Texas; two sisters, Opal Rich of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mary Galloway of Americus; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Cordele.

Lula Bell Hill
CORDELE — Funeral services for Lula Bell Hill, 81, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, in Brown Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
Mrs. Hill died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006.
A native of Crisp County, she was the widow of the late Willie Arthur Hill Sr.. She was a housekeeper and was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Ollie and E.J. Parker of Cordele; several cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; a granddaughter with whom she resided, Mary Wilson of Cordele; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Ellen Hill of Belle Glade, Fla.

Loran Paul Crumley
HAWKINSVILLE — Graveside funeral services for Loran Paul Crumley, 66, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in Pleasant View Baptist Church cemetery in Wilcox County. Following the graveside service there will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. in the Broad Street Baptist Church in Hawkinsville. The Rev. Carl D. Jameson will officiate both services.
Mr. Crumley died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006.
A native of Bibb County, he was a member and deacon of Broad Street Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School and through the years, served on the building committees of three different churches. Mr. Crumley was a self-employed businessman in the electrical supply and real estate businesses. He was an avid golfer and lived his life for the service of others and to the glory of God. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Hoke Crumley and Jimmy Crumley.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce B. Crumley of Hawkinsville; a daughter, Penny C. (Phil) Anderson of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Loran Paul (Elizabeth) Crumley Jr. of Woodstock; his mother, Lessie C. Crumley of Hawkinsville; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles Allen ‘Chuck’ Gray
CORDELE — Funeral services will be held for Charles Allen “Chuck” Gray at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2006.
Mr. Gray died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at his residence.
A native of Sumter County, he was son of George Gray and the late Opal Lynch Gray. A floor tile installer, Mr. Gray was a member of the Morningside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Dukes Gray of Cordele; his father, George Gray of Cordele; step-children, Jonathan Jones and Shana Ward both of Panama City, Fla.; sisters, Connie Shadeed of Jacksonville, N.C., and Rita Gray of Cordele.

Violet Carden Owen
CORDELE — Funeral services for Violet Janann Carden Owen, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 31, 2006, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. The Rev. Gill Tripp will officiate the services.
Mrs. Owen died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in Crisp Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late James Martin Carden and the late Lula Musselwhite Carden of the Hatley Community, and was the widow of the late William Pierce Owen to whom she was wed for 35 years. Born and reared in Crisp and Wilcox counties, she attended and graduated from Pitts High School in Pitts, and furthered her education by attending and graduating from Southern Business College in Atlanta. She was engaged in several business operations and was co-owner of the Electronic Tabulating Services in Atlanta. Upon her retirement in 1992, Mrs. Owen returned to her former home in Crisp County. She was a member of the Hatley United Methodist Church, the Midway Homemakers Club, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 38 and the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her siblings, Mary Carden Mitchell, Sarah C. Summers, Jimmie Ruth C. Williams, Max L. Carden and Tom K. Carden all of Cordele; nieces and nephews, Terry Carden of Eufaula, Ala., Sammy Carden of Kingston, Carden Summers, Colin Williams and Mark Carden all of Cordele, Robert Briggs of Stockbridge, Richard Briggs of Roswell, Vaneesa Williams Little of Atlanta, Kimmie Carden and Janann Carden Dunnavant of Cordele; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Van R. Carden, Sam T. Carden and Pansy C. Briggs.

Myrtle Padgett
ROCHELLE — Funeral services for Myrtle Padgett, 85, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 31, 2006, in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel of Frazier and Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery. The Rev. John Pate will officiate the services.
Mrs. Padgett died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in Crisp Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 30, 1920, in Turner County, she was the daughter of the late Carl Thomas Maddox and Minnie Lee Smith Maddox. She lived the greater part of her life in Wilcox County and was a member of the First Avenue Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, Dwight Padgett in 1979.
Survivors include daughters, Jean Clark, Cheryl Wilkerson and Janice Padgett all of Rochelle, Diane Hatcher and Elaine McGowan both of Albany; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
