WARNER ROBINS — Funeral services for Arthur Green Mathis, Sr., 67, of Centerville will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Rev. Tim Millwood will officiate.
Mr. Mathis died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006.
Mr. Mathis, a native of Worth County, was the son of the late Jess and Florene Moore Mathis. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; Peggy Mathis of Centerville; sons, Arthur G. “Art” (Lisa) Mathis Jr. of Centerville, Otis Daniel “Dan” (Lana) Mathis of Warner Robins, Kim (Chad) Day of Byron; siblings, Charles Mathis of Arlington, Janie Little of Cordele; grandchildren, Craig, Brittany, Taylor, A.J. Mathis, Gabe, Hannah Bembry, and Jonah Day.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 at the funeral home.

Julia North McNair Smith
TIFTON — Funeral services for Mrs. Julia North McNair Smith, 89, of Tifton will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at the graveside in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in Tifton following an extended illness.

CORDELE — Margie Johnson, 78, of Cordele died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at Crisp Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be held at Swearingen cemetery in Dooly County Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at 11a.m.

Richard Ervin ‘Dick’ Hegeman
CORDELE — A memorial service for Richard Ervin “Dick” Hegeman will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, in St. Paul Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Hegeman died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, in Phoebe Putney Memorial in Albany, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Racine, Wis., on Jan. 1, 1915, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward P. (nee: Ida B. Herman) Hegeman. He played college football for the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, and also played professional football for the Chicago Cardinals for eight years. Mr. Hegeman was an avid all-around sportsman. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and was honorably discharged at the rank of technical staff sergeant. After leaving the Marine Corps, Mr. Hegeman owned several businesses and worked in Wisconsin and Florida for the Budweiser Beer Company. After retiring, Mr. Hegeman came to Cordele and worked part-time as a carrier for the Cordele Dispatch for which he won an award in 2005 for being the 2004 Senior Carrier in an eight-state area. He was praised for diligent and faithful service. Mr. Hegeman was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Cordele.
Survivors include his wife, Oweta Hegeman of Cordele; four step-children, Sharon (Phil) Harris, Sondra (Lawrence) Roberts-Jackson, Karen Turner and Wesley (Verdena) Roberts all of Maryland; a sister, Elaine Kohl of Racine, Wis.; his sister-in-law, Rosa (Ben) Jones of Miami, Fla.; his niece, Cheryl (Keith) Heck of Franksville, Wis.; three nephews, Dick (Lesley) Johnson of Batavia, Ill., Gary (Sandra) Hegeman of East Troy, Wis., and Randall Kohl of Lauderhill, Fla.; two great-nieces, Michelle Kirk of San Francisco, Calif., and Nicole Kirk of Racine, Wis.; several step-grandchildren, several other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward Hegeman and Louis Hegeman, and a step-son, Jeffrey Cleveland.

Ophelia Ruth Pope
TAMPA, Fla. — A memorial service will be held for Ophelia Ruth Pope, 83, formerly of Pineview, at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Cedar Creek cemetery on Highway 129 in Wilcox County. Her nephew, the Rev. Bob Murphy, will officiate the services.
Mrs. Pope died Sunday, March 26, 2006, in Tampa General Hospital with her family by her bedside.
She was the widow of the late W.E. Pope and was a homemaker. She loved her garden, her flowers and her many friends in Pineview.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann Renew and her husband, Derek, of Tampa; a son, Steve Pope and his wife, Kim, of Pineview; a step-son, Harold Pope; step-daughters, Merle and Ione; grandchildren, Angie, Renee, Stephany, Juston, Brandon, Ryan and Dawn; great-grandchildren, Leigh, Ian, Deanna and Kirsten; and a number of nieces and nephews.

UNADILLA — Funeral services for Walter Edward “Ed” Posey, 96, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2006, in the First Baptist Church of Unadilla. Burial will follow in Walnut Cemetery. The Rev. CORDELE — Funeral services were held for Russell Earl Perry at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. The Revs. John Leab and Tony Register officiated the services. Burial followed in the Sunnyside Cemetery.
“Precious Memories” was sung by Tim Perry accompanied by Jacqueline Walters, pianist. She also provided soft music for the service.
Pallbearers were David West, Eddie Blanton, Pat Posey, Johnny Floyd, Virgil Wade and Arthur Ben Morris.

Russell Earl Perry
CORDELE — Funeral services will be held for Russell Earl Perry, 60, at 4 p.m. today, April 4, 2006, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Mr. Perry died Sunday morning, April 2, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 5, 1945, in Crisp County. His father, Russell Perry, precedes him in death. Mr. Perry was a farmer and member of the Crisp County Young Farmers of America and the Livestock Association. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are his mother, Elizabeth Wade Perry of Cordele; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rusty and Lynn Perry and Will and Melissa Perry all of Cordele; his companion, Judy Bragg of Cordele; a sister and brother-in-law, Opal and Renay Smith of Cordele; grandchildren, Thomas, Kaylee, Blake, Jordan, Taylor and Blair Perry; and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas Jackson ‘Jack’ Davis
CORDELE — Thomas Jackson “Jack” Davis died Sunday morning, April 2, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Henry County, Ala. His mother, Vida Hollis Davis, and his wife, Betty Norsworthy Davis, precede him in death.
Jack was an avid lover of animals, therefore the family feels it is appropriate to suggest donations be made to Crisp County Animal Services Shelter Fund, 196 Highway 300 S., Cordele, Ga. 31015.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today starting at 6 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow on Wednesday in Dothan, Ala.
Mr. Davis devoted 47 years of his business life to the financial and insurance business. He was the owner of Local Finance Company and co-owner of Johnny Hearn Insurance Company. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he was a member of the Brotherhood and had served as treasurer. He was a member of the Lions Club for 58 years where he was a past director. He was a Gideon and member of the VFW, American Legion, Cordele Jaycees, Cordele Elks Club and was a past president of the Georgia Industrial Loan Association. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. A U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, Mr. Davis served in Australia and Okinawa from 1939 until 1947, and received a Presidential Citation for having never lost an aircraft for mechanical problems while squad inspector.
Survivors include a son, Jackie Davis of Cordele; a daughter and son-in-law, Vida and Dr. Will Waller of Rapid City, S.D.; two sisters, Anna Belle Smith of Dothan, Ala., and Margaret Sinquefield of Ashford, Ala.; two grandchildren, Claude (Tracy) Smith of Montgomery, Ala., and Ty Zachary of Rapid City, S.D.; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Smith and Tami Zachary both of Montgomery, Ala.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Catherine Smith Keaton
CORDELE — Funeral services for Catherine Smith Keaton will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, in Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in the Penia Community. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.
Mrs. Keaton died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at her residence.
She was a native of Crisp County and was the daughter of the late Willie Lee Smith Sr. and Lula Price Smith. She attended Gethsemane Baptist Church and worked as a cook in various restaurants.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmie Keaton of Cordele; four step-children, Wendy Gail (Gregory) Rivers of Panama City, Fla., Ricky Redding and Octavius Curtis both of Atlanta, and Vanessa Christopher of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters and brothers, Betty Sue King (Killens) Rogers, Ellen Appling, Delois Lee (Wayne Barner) Woodson, Patricia (Terry Boston) King, willie Lee (Maxine) Smith Jr., and Johnny Lee (Kosha) Smith all of Cordele, and Henry James (Elizabeth) Woodson of West Palm Beach, Fla.; aunts and uncles, Ethell (Edward) Mumphery and Johnny L. (Pastor Geraldine) Smith both of Cordele; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth (Billy Jack) Alexander and Chester King of Cordele; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
