PINEHURST - Funeral services for Mary R. Branch, 53, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2006, in the Pinehurst Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Pinehurst City Cemetery. The Rev. Freddy Hogg officiated the services, directed by Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Vienna.
Mrs. Branch died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at her residence.
Mary Lizzie Mumphery
CORDELE - Funeral services for Mary Lizzie Mumphery will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 4, 2006, in the sanctuary of Crossroad Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Gum Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Freddie Harrington will officiate the services.
Ms. Mumphery died Thursday, March 30, 2006.
The processional will be led by Rev. Harrington and prayer will be given by Deacon Charles Mumphery. Deacon William O. Durham will sing a hymn and Scripture will be read by Bro. James Hughes and Pastor Isaac H. Owens. Prayer will be given by Bro. Johnny Moton and Fabion B. Mumphery will sing a solo. A poem will be read by Kimberly Mumphery and reflections will be given by family members, church members and friends. The family will be presented with an African-American heirloom Bible as a keepsake from the funeral home staff.
Survivors include her sons, Ernest Mumphery of Atlanta, Willie F. (Bobbie) Mumphery of Albany, Eddie J. (Marilyn) Mumphery of College Park, and Bobby J. (Carolyn) Mumphery of Stone Mountain; a sister, Thelma (Deacon Johnny) Pickens of Cordele; brothers, Deacon John Lee Mumphery and Deacon Sammy L. (Fannie) Mumphery both of Cordele; sisters-in-law, Mary Jean Mumphery of Cordele, and Evelyn Mumphery of Atlanta; special nieces, Gloria (Ererson) Scurry of Denver, Colo., and Annette Mumphery of Cordele; nine grandchildren, Brodrick, Brion (Tracy), Kristin, Tameka, Kelly, Dontrell, Shaucey, Kimberly and Stephanie; seven great-grandchildren; a god-daughter, Marilyn Barrett of Atlanta; and a special friend, Constance Williams of Cordele.

CORDELE - Graveside funeral services were held for Charles D. Woodall Sr. at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Bill Stewart officiated the services which included a time for remembrances from those attending.
The Crisp County High School ROTC presented the colors and folded the American Flag. Sgt. Arrington presented the flag to the family. Danyal Johnson played 'Taps' at the conclusion of the service.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Woodard, Corinthian Quarterman, Ashley Johnson, Shawn Stewart, Fred Sealey and Kevin Childree.

CORDELE - Funeral services were held for Clara Smith Hall at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2006, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Howard Ergle and the Rev. J.T. Smith officiated the services. Burial followed in Sunnyside Cemetery.
'She's Not Crying Anymore', 'Gone Home' and 'Farside Bank of Jordan' were played during the service.
Pallbearers were Michael Hughes, David Denham, Al Denham, T.J. Denham, Chip Ergle, Richard Ergle, Kyle Hall and Barry Hall.

Ruth Hamilton
MONROVIA, Calif. - Funeral services will be held for Ruth Hamilton, 83, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006, in the Arabi Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Arabi Cemetery.
Mrs. Hamilton died Saturday, April 1, 2006, in California.
She was born on July 29, 1922, in Knoxville, Tenn., to the late Ruth Wood Morse and the late Abert Morse. She married
Alton Hamilton in San Diego in 1945, and accompanied him upon his return to Arabi. She was Postmaster in Arabi, but left that position to rear their three children Stephanie, Joe and Chris. She was active in the Arabi Baptist Church and PTA and was famous for her musical program with her oldest child. After her husband's retirement, they moved to California in 1993. Mrs. Hamilton was a Pharmacist's Mate Second Class with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, Joseph Alton Hamilton Jr. of Monrovia, Calif., survivors include her children, Joseph Alton Hamilton III of Moultrie, Chris Hamilton of Solana Beach, Calif., and Stephanie Hamilton of Monrovia, Calif.; a brother, Eddie Morse of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Lucille Hopkins of New Jersey, and Priscilla Adkins of Maryland; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests donations be made to the Arabi Baptist Church.

James Woodrow 'Woody' Tharpe
CORDELE - Funeral services for James Woodrow 'Woody' Tharpe were held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2006, in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The Revs. Joe McCoy and Billy Nipper conducted the service.
Sheryl McCoy, pianist, played soft music and accompanied herself as she sang 'Holy Ground.' Jennifer Richardson sang 'Sweet Beulah Land.' Mrs. McCoy closed the service with 'He Just Takes Me In His Arms.'
Pallbearers were Gary Gloss, Aldo Baker, Ernie Rhodes, Jackie Mathis, John H. Pate and Randy Matthews.

Stella P. Lewis
CORDELE - Funeral services for Stella Posey Lewis, 95, of Arabi were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2006, in Antioch Baptist Church with Dr. John G. Smith III and the Rev. J.E. Harris officiating. Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
Luanne Turner, pianist, played soft music and accompanied the church choir as they sang 'Consider The Lillies' and 'In the Garden.' The service was closed as they sang 'All Because Of God's Amazing Grace.'
Pallbearers were grandsons, Toby Lewis, Mark Lewis, Darrell Lewis, Eddie West and Roger Bangs, and a nephew, Jim Jeff Posey.
Burial was in Zion Hope Cemetery.
John Lee Espy
TOPEKA, KANSAS - A memorial service for John Lee Espy, 84, of Topeka Ks. will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Westside Baptist Church, 1008 S.W. Fourth St., Topeka, Ks. Cremation is planned.
Espy died Monday, April 24, 2006 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Ks.
He was born Feb. 7, 1922 in Cordele, Georgia, the son of Alto and Iona Peterman Espy. He graduated from Cordele High School, Georgia Tech University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Later, he earned a DBA at Harvard Business School. Although he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and worked as a chemical engineer for the Eastman Kodak Company, Dr. Espy spent most of his career as a missionary and teacher for the American Baptist Churches. He lived in Istanbul, Turkey for six years and in Rochester, N.Y. for nine years before moving to Hong Kong in 1962. There he worked at Chung Chi College, which soon became part of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Apart from three years in Newton Center, MA, he remained in Hong Kong until 1989, when he retired and settled in Topeka. During his retirement, he taught business courses at Washburn University and was a member of West Side Baptist Church, both in Topeka.
He married
Ruth C. Bodemer on July 8, 1950 in Cambridge, MA. She died Nov. 19, 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Lincoln L. Espy, Kansas City, MO and John M. Espy, Lawrence, KS; a daughter, Brenda Mitchell, Shelburne, VT; a brother, Eugene Espy, Macon, GA; and six grandchildren.

VIENNA - Funeral services for Curtis Jackson of Atlanta, formerly of Vienna will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday May 2, 2006 in the sanctuary of the Free Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Woody Burnam officiating. Burial will follow in Vienna City Cemetery.
Processional will be led by the Rev. Woody Burnam, a musical selection will be given, prayer will be by Pastor Isacc Owens, reading of the Old and New Testament by Rev Burnam, reflections will be given by family and friends. The family will be presented an African American Heirloom Bible as a keepsake from the funeral home staff.
Jackson died April 27, 2006.
Survivors include three sisters, Alene (Roger ) Fields, Shirley (Leroy) Gaines, and Geraldine Anderson (Robert Jones), All of Vienna; three brothers, Glenn Presley, Vienna, Thomas (CHRIS) Umstead, Chicago, Jimmy (Patsy) Jackson, Cordele; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Atlanta and Vienna.

Carol Warren Walters
CORDELE - Funeral services were held for Carol Warren Walters at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Edward Ware, the Rev. Joe McCoy, the Rev. Wes Hardin and the Rev. Bobby Pope officiated the services. Burial followed in the Union Baptist Church cemetery in Wilcox County.
Alice Powell, pianist, provided soft music for the service and accompanied Kenny Croft as he sang 'I Can't Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand.' She also accompanied Mr. Croft and herself as they sang 'Beulah Land' and Mrs. Powell sang a solo, 'All The Way.'
Pallbearers were Shelby Warren, Wes Bennett, Keith McDuffie, Thomas 'Pee Wee' Walters, Charles Walters, Glenn Sheffield, Jimmy Irving and Chuck Tharpe.

Lois Myrick
STONE MOUNTAIN - Funeral services for Lois Faircloth Myrick, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006, in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will follow in Melwood Cemetery. Dr. J. Hoffman will officiate the services.
Mrs. Myrick died Sunday, March 26, 2006.
A native of Wilcox County, she was the daughter of Lewis and Georgia Faircloth. She found peace by helping others in life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Myrick.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Carol Myrick; a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Jim Doherty; grandchildren, Heather Taylor, Nathan Myrick and Ryan Doherty a sister, Lorene Lamb; a brother, Leonard Faircloth; and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to their favorite charity for the benefit of American children.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Scott S. Woodard
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Graveside services for Scott S. Woodard, 46, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Oakwood cemetery in Chatsworth, Calif.
Mr. Woodard died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, from injuries sustained in an accident in Albuquerque, N.M., enroute to Winston-Salem, N.C., to be near his sister who had recently moved there.
Survivors include his sister, Janis Karanathas and her husband, Tommy of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.; and an aunt and uncle, Delores and Tonsie Tucker of Cordele.
He was preceded in death by a brother who died last year, Woody Woodard; his mother, Anne Woodard of Ventura, Calif., and his father, William D. Woodard of California and Georgia.
