Elsie A. Tripp
Services for Elsie A. Tripp of Eastman, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 at Eastside Baptist Church with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The Rev. Albert Lyles and the Rev. Mike Fitzpatrick officiated.
Tripp, 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Henry Grady Allen and Mary Elizabeth Shadix Allen and was the widow of William Tripp Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Tripp.
A native of Telfair County, she was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Tripp and Mary Ann McLeod, both of Eastman and Brenda Graham of Cadwell; son, William Tripp Jr. of Eastman; sisters, Vena Sheffield of Chauncey, Vestula Maddox of Florida, Dollie Dixon of Savannah, Myrtle Allen of Springfield and Helen Smith of Eastman; brother, Johnnie Allen of Springfield; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Whitehead Stanley
Services for Ruth Whitehead Stanley of McRae, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at Millcreek Baptist Church with interment in Milan Cemetery.
The Rev. Warren Swinson officiated.
Stanley, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 in the Telfair Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late John and Sarah Whitehead and was the widow of Albert Felton. She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Lee Felton.
She was retired from McRae Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include her son, Artist Felton, Tom’s River, N.J.; a daughter, Betty Jean McRae of McRae; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.
Allie Myrtice Taylor Yawn
Services for Allie Myrtice Taylor Yawn of Jacksonville, Fla., were held Tuesday, Sept. 7 in Gray Gables Baptist church with interment in the Jones Cemetery.
Yawn, 77, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004. Born in Telfair County, she was the widow of Julian Hobson Yawn.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Mullis and Priscilla Irwin, both of Callahan, Fla.; brothers, James Taylor of Fernandina Beach and Warren Taylor of Warner Robins; a sister, Blanche Deen of Green Cove Springs, Fla; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Callahan Funeral Home, Inc. of was in charge of arrangements.
Monroe B. Butler
Services for Monroe B. Butler of Cadwell were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27 at Ebernezer Baptist Church in Chauncey with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. D.L. Knight officiated.
Butler, 83, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at the V.A. Medical Center in Dublin. He was the son of the late Monroe and Celia Butler and was the widower of Isabell W. Butler.
He was a native of Irwin County, an army veteran and retired from the V.A. Medical Center of Dublin after 23 years.
Survivors include his children, Carolyn Wright of Atlanta, Doris Harvey and Diana Butler, both of Rochester, N.Y., Veronica and Sandra Butler of Cadwell, Cecelia Lockhart of Macon, Barbara Nelson of Eastman, Marvin Butler of Helena, Vernon Butler of Dublin, Monroe Butler of Atlanta, Calvin Butler and Anthony Butler, both of Cadwell; sisters, Tressie O’Neal of Dublin, Pomia Jones and Varis Walton of New York City, N.Y.; 28 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wanda McLean
Services for Wanda McLean of Hazlehurst were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 in the Lumber City United First United Methodist Church with interment in the Riverside Cemetery in Lumber City.
The Rev. James Boyd officiated.
McLean, 79, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Rosser Rhodes and Mary Ethel McMillian Rhodes, and was married to Dan McLean of Lumber City. She was a native of Wheeler County and was a member of the Lumber City First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter, Lynn Ellis of Roswell; sons, William D. McLean of Acworth and Henry McLean of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren. Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.
Mattie Ora Ussery Varnadoe
Services for Mattie Ora Ussery Varnadoe were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1 in the Lumber City Baptist Church with interment in the Fishing Creek Cemetery in Telfair County.
The Rev. John Daughtry and the Rev. Royce Hulett officiated.
Varnadoe, 89, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004 in the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Ussery and Martha Ellen Silas Ussery and was the widow of Addison Varnadoe.
She was a native of Laurens County, but had lived in Telfair County most of her life. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Gail Hall of Hazlehurst, Sherry Lyons of Eatonton, Carol Jean Simmons of Decatur and Inez White of Stone Mountain; sons, Duane Varnadoe of Conyers and Keith Varnadoe of Lumber City; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Miles Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.
William E. Welch
Services for William E. Welch of Orlando, Fla. were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at the chapel of Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home with interment at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Winter Park Florida.
Welch, 72, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2004 in Orlando. He was married to Betty Welch.
He moved to Orlando in 1971 from Seattle, Wash. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Post Office.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Charles Allen Welch; daughter, Debra Lynn Crowe; sisters, Janie Baxter, JoAnn Mathews; and two grandchildren.
Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home of Winter Park, Fla. was in charge of arrangements.
Bill Dixon
Services for Bill Dixon of Glenwood were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at Hope Baptist Church with interment in the Glenwood Cemetery.
The Rev. Dewitt Corbin and the Rev. Jimmy Willhite officiated.
Dixon, 67, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004. He was the son of Rubena Kirby Dixon and the late Jerry Hires Dixon and was the widower of Carolyn Willie Hughes Dixon.
A native and lifelong resident of Glenwood, he was a residential and commercial contractor, and a member of the Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his sons, Jerry William Dixon of Vidalia, Billy Greg Dixon and Terry Colon Dixon, both of Glenwood; daughter, Linda Sue Dixon Fountain of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to Hope Baptist Church.

Gipson “Gip” Williams
Services for Gipson “Gip” Williams of Alamo were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 at Glenwood Grove Baptist Church with interment in New Stuckey Cemetery in Glenwood.
The Rev. Earl Matthew Smith officiated.
Williams, 65, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 at his residence. He was the son of the late John Williams and Patience Bess Burns Williams.
A native of Wheeler County, he was retired from Miami International Airport, Dispatcher Services after 25 years of service. He was employed for four years with the Wheeler County Hospital.
Survivors include his sons, James Kelvin Williams of Kissimmee, Fla. and Michael Williams of Miami, Fla.; daughters, Sharlyn Williams Roach of Miami, Fla., and Ashley Nicole Williams of Alamo; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Wiley Cannon Jr.
Services for Wiley Cannon Jr. of Scotland were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 in the Sandgrove Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Myron Lane and the Rev. Donald Witman officiated.
Cannon, 65, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at his residence. He was the son of the late Wiley Frank and Bessie Mae Hilliard Cannon.
He was a native of Telfair County and was a retired welder from Union Camp.
Survivors include his son, Terry J. Cannon of Dublin; sisters, Frances Thompson of Milan and Bobbie Floyd of Hawkinsville; brothers, Chester Cannon of Milan and Ricky Cannon of McRae; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
