Elem Lee Jones

CORDELE - Graveside services for Elem Lee Jones, 41, will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 4, 2006, in Pope City cemetery in Rochelle. The Rev. Royce Freeman will officiate the services.

Mr. Jones died Saturday, July 1, 2006, in Crisp Regional Hospital.

Lee was born in Wilcox County on Sept. 21, 1964, and was the son of Raymond Jones and the late Dora Mae Hitson Jones. He was a well driller and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his father, Raymond Jones of Cordele; a sister, Shirley (Alvin) Duckworth of Cordele; a niece, Brandi Mixon of Cordele; and a nephew, Matthew Mixon of Cordele.

Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle has charge of the arrangements.

Marion F. Mitchell

CORDELE - A memorial service for Marion F. Mitchell was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006, in the Cordele First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Warren Williams and Lee Guerry conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Mitchell was laid to rest in Sunnyside Cemetery.

Norma Turton, pianist, and Steve Sargent, organist, played soft music. Shearer Turton led the congregation in singing 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus.' Following the eulogy, Mr. Turton sang 'In The Garden.'

Pallbearers were Mitch Mitchell, Matt Mitchell, Todd Mitchell, Craig Peavy, Wade Wiggins and Steve Mitchell.

James B. Matthews Jr.

CORDELE - Graveside funeral services for James B. Matthews Jr., 84, of Cordele will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at the Sunnyside Cemetery.

Mr. Matthews died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at his residence.

He was born to the late Gertrude Suiter Matthews and the late James B. Matthews on Friday, April 14, 1922, in Montgomery County, Tenn. A retired teacher with the Crisp County School System, Mr. Matthews was a member of the Cordele First United Methodist Church. He was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, July 5, 2006, from 9 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

Survivors include his wife, Warrena Matthews of Cordele; two sons, Jimmy Matthews of Athens, and Jeff Matthews of Douglasville; four grandchildren, a niece and several nephews.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home is entrusted with these arrangements.

Charles G. 'Chuck' Speight III

UNADILLA - Funeral services for Charles G. 'Chuck' Speight III will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006, in Unadilla United Methodist Church with interment in Walnut Cemetary.

Mr. Speight died Tuesday, July 4, in a Macon Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Methodist Children's Home at P.O. Box 2525 Macon, Georgia 31297.

Laura Dobbins

VIENNA - Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Dobbins, 37, of Vienna will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2006, at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of Church of the Living God, 600 E. Pine Street, Vienna. Vanester Dobbins will be pastor and Apostle Essie Mae Williams Overseer will officiate.

Mrs. Dobbins was born July 21, 1968, and passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at her residence.

William Bennett 'Pop' Crumley

CORDELE - Funeral services for Mr. William Bennett 'Pop' Crumley, 89, of Seville will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service, Cordele. The committal will be at Seville Cemetary in Wilcox County.

Mr. Crumley was born on Tuesday, April 17, 1917 in Dooly County and passed away on Friday, July 7, 2006, at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.

Mr. Crumley was a retired carpenter and a member of the Seville Baptist Church, where he had served on the Board of Deacons.

Mr. Crumley is preceeded in death by his parents, the late Miles and Mattie Dowdy Crumley; his wife, Nellie Cason Crumley; two brothers, Joe Crumley and Robert Crumley and four sisters, Bertha Dalrymple, Adele Dupree, Lucille Brewer and Vera McKinney.

Mr. Crumley is survived by his daughter, Sandra Crumley Cooper of Cordele; two grandsons and their wives, Doug and Mena Vonier of Cordele and Bill and Cindy Vonier of Arabi; two sisters, Opal Warren and Jean Oglesby, both of Cordele; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family may be contacted at the home of Doug and Mena Vonier, 202 Carolyn Street, Cordele.

Marshall Lee Blackmon

CORDELE - Funeral services for Mr. Marshall Lee Blackmon of Cordele will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of The New Birth Tabernacle Holiness Church in Vienna, with burial to follow in the Spring Creek Cemetary in Elko, Georgia, with evangelist Philmore Bell officiating.

Mr. Blackmon passed July 5, 2006, and is survived by his children, Marcus M Waters and Chaquia T. Smith, both of Cordele; his mother, Lucille Blackmon of Cordele; four sisters, Alma (Joseph) Spivey of Hawkinsville, Mary (Isaih) Williams of Ft. Myers, Fl., Rozeita (Jeffery) Jefferson of Palm Beach, Fl., and Lucinda (Ernest) Blackmon Jr. of Fl.; six brothers, Willie (Brenda) Blackmon, Jr. of Fl., Roger (Betty) Blackmon of Athens, Johnny Blackmon of Detroit, Mich., Jimmy Blackmon of Tampa, Fl., Daniel Pauletta) Blackmon of Wichita, Kan., and Tyrone (Diane) Blackmon of Cordele; and six aunts and uncles, Julia (Daniel) Thomas of Hinesville, Alice Holmes of Perry, Blossie Bell (Sam) Livingston of Tampa, Fl., Mary (Jessie Lee) Wilson of Tampa, Fl., Essex (Ann) Hayward of Cleveland, Ohio, and Nathaniel (Sadie) Hayward of Warner Robins.

Verna L. Pace

CORDELE - Funeral services for Verna L. Pace will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006, in the sanctuary of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Leonard Boston will officiate the services.

Mrs. Pace died Sunday, July 2, 2006.

The processional will be led by the Revs. Benjamin Dent and Leonard Boston and a hymn will be rendered by William O. Durham. Rev. Boston will offer prayer and Scripture will be read by her pastor, Rev. Dent. Erskine Weaver will offer a musical selection and the family will be presented with an African-American heirloom Bible as a keepsake from the funeral home staff.

Survivors include a devoted son, William Spencer (Gloria Jean) Pace III of Cordele; a god-son, Charleston (Sylvia) Silas of Atlanta; sisters-in-law, Mary Pace of Maryland, and Helen Murray of Vienna; a devoted niece, Joyce (Dr. Napoleon) Williams of Vienna; special friends, Naomi Stubbs, Willean McGill and Wilma Robinson all of Cordele; two grandchildren, Dietrice (Mallory) Jones of Vienna, and Spencer G. Pace of Cordele; and eight great-grandchildren, Reginald, Jasmine, Chasity and Teddi all of Cordele, CarJavious, LaJarvius, JaKela and JaKeia all of Vienna.

Estella Buckle

CORDELE - Funeral services for Estella Buckle, 95, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006, in the Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Buckle died Thursday, June 29, 2006, in Crisp Regional Nursing & Rehab.

She was a native of Pulaski County and was the widow of the late Woodrow Buckle. She was a retired caregiver and member of Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church where she served on the usher board.

She is survived by her god-daughter, Sarah Cray of Cordele; a sister, Walter Mae Green of Philadelphia, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Willie Eva Tolbert and Emma Harrington both of Cordele; brothers-in-law, George Buckle of Abbeville, and Henry Edrington of Philadelphia, Pa.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children and friends also survive.

Lizzie Lou Bridges James

VIENNA - Funeral services for Lizzie Lou James, 88, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2006 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. iIntermentwill follow at Ebenezer cemetery in Crisp County.

Mrs. James died at her residence Saturday, July 8, 2006.

A native of Coffee County, she was born Monday, June 10, 1918 and was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Bridges and Nancy Ann Champion Bridges and the widow of Johnny Aultman James. Mrs. James was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Robert Stanley James and his wife, Mary, Glynes Hurt and her husband, Dr. Robert T. Hurt, Jr. and Randall A. James, all of Cordele and Samuel R. James and his wife, Vicki of Marietta; one sister, Emma B. Simmons of Albany; nine grandchildren, Dr. Gina Lanelle Hurt-Hodgson and her husband, Wayne, Dr. Robert T. Hurt, III and his wife, Joycelyn, Jennifer James, Craig James, Allen James Jackson, Stacie James Stonehill and her husband, Sean, Katherine Marie James, Jessica E. James and Samuel A. James; and 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley Lanelle Deadwyler, Sutton Claire Waller, Braxton Chance Peterson, Wayne Hodgson, III, Robert T. Hurt, IV, William Cole Hurt, Aultman James Hurt, Matthew Aultman James, Zackary Austin James, Brittany Amerson and Morgan Stonehill. She was preceded in death by a son, Joel Charles James, brothers, Thomas Daniel Bridges, Benjamin Franklin Bridges, Zachariah Pete Bridges, Joe Bridges, Richard Bridges, and Henry Bridges and a sister, Mamie Vickers.

Deacon Miller Lawson Sr.

UNADILLA - Funeral services for Deacon Miller Lawson Sr., 93, will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2006, in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Unadilla. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. James T. Lee will officiate the services.

Mr. Lawson died Monday, July 10, 2006, in Taylor Regional Hospital.

A native of Houston County, he was the son of the late Ran Lawson and Aline Lawson. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons and as director of the mission department. He was a retired farmer and was the widower of the late Mary Frances Lawson after 71 years of marriage.

Survivors include seven daughters, Odessa Sheffield of Vienna, Dora (Ray) Cannie of Macon, Susie Henry, Viola Adams and Mae Dorothy (Franklin) Jordan all of Unadilla, Mary (Robert) Bizzell of Linden, N.J., and Virgie (Logie) Talley of Macon; two sons, the Rev. Willie (Margaret) Lawson of Macon, and Charlie (Edna) Lawson of Milwaukee, Wisc.; a brother, Randall Lawson of Byromville; two sisters, Dicey Brumley and Josie Braynt of Orlando, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Beatrice Lawson of Tampa, Fla., and Rosa L. Lawson of Unadilla; a sister-in-law, Anna Bembry of Hawkinsville; a brother-in-law, Julius Bembry of Unadilla; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Allene Mapp

CORDELE - Funeral services for Allene Mapp will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2006, in the sanctuary of Beulahland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Chester Askins will officiate the services. A wake service will be held from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel.

Ms. Mapp died Sunday, July 9, 2006.

The processional will be led by the Rev. Askins and a solo will be rendered by Kathy Owens. Prayer will be given by Rev. Askins and Scripture will be read by the Rev. Isaac H. Owens. Jack King will sing a solo and reflections will be given by family members and friends. Evangelist Rosa Sanford will sing a solo and the family will be presented with an African-American heirloom Bible as a keepsake from the funeral home staff.

Survivors include her children, Queen (Lewis) Mapp of Cordele, Robert (Vallery) Mapp Jr. of Hainesville, and Ronday Mapp of Albany; her mother, Rosa Bell Clark of Cordele; grandchildren, Demetrius, Lavasky, Darius, Jerome Jr., Sharonda (Franklin), April, Chelsea, Shala, Whitney, Rodney, Tankeina and Passion; great-grandchildren, Azaria, Kayla, Amiya and Keirra; a devoted niece and nephew, Wendy (Gregory) Rivers of Panama City, Fla., and Renzell Blanks of Americus; devoted cousins, Palace M. Sims and Jessie Ezell of Cordele; and special friends, Ruby Jean Bell, Min. Rosa (Min. Billy) Sanford, Nora (Deacon Henry) Cross and Ruby Felton all of Cordele.
