CORDELE — Funeral services for Edna Greene Adkins of Cordele were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services with Elder Raybon Lord and the Rev. James Kelly officiating.
Marcene Freeman, pianist, played soft music and accompanied herself and the Rev. Royce Freeman as they sang “I’ll Meet You In The Morning.” The Priest Family sang “Amazing Grace.” Todd Priest sang “Another Saint Is Coming Home” at the close of the service.
Pallbearers were Michael Barrett, Danny Adkins, Donald Adkins, Bill Priest, Todd Priest, Jeffrey Priest and Billy Greene.

Barbara Ann McCray
CORDELE — Funeral services for Barbara Ann McCray will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 24 in the chapel of J.W. Williams Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville. Her brother-in-law, Min. Charles Wimberly Sr., will officiate the services.
Mrs. McCray died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006.
She was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmie McCray of Cordele; daughters, Tracy McCray of Albany, and Keesha McCray of Cordele; her father, Otis Douglas Sr. of Climax; sisters, Helen (Gohnneil) Brown of Climax, Lula (Joseph) Coley of Georgetown, Joyce (Charles Sr.) Wimberly of Tallahassee, Fla., and Selessia (George) Berry of Columbus; brothers, L.C. (Emma) Douglas Sr. of Climax, Otis (Pearl) Douglas Jr. of Gainesville, Fla., Joseph (Shirley) Douglas and Bradley Douglas of Thomasville; a brother-in-law, Willie Brooks Sr. of Albany; granddaughters, Wonyetta Simmons and Shanita McCray of Cordele, and Shyliacia Johnson of Albany; an aunt, Lessie Mae Crawford of Climax; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
James Edward Couch
June 9, 1940 - December 22, 2010
Mr. James Edward Couch, 70, of White passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at his residence following a brief illness. Born in Bartow County, June 9, 1940, he was the son of the late James Thomas Couch, Sr. and the late Tinnie Byars Couch. Preceding him in death along with his parents are brothers, Vernon Eugene Couch and Ricky Joe Couch; and one niece Pam Couch.
James attended the Church at Liberty Square and was owner/operator of Couch pest control. He enjoyed talking about the Bible and football. He was loved by many, friendly to all and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Geraldine Waddell Couch; his brothers, Virgil, Clyde and Ernest Couch all of Cartersville, James Thomas Couch, Jr. of Canton; his sisters, Virginia Couch, Florence Couch Proctor and Marie Couch Tapley of Cartersville; his sisters-in-law, Jean Couch of Cartersville, Mary Couch Owens of Acworth; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 27, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Pastor Jacob King officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ernest Couch, Steve Couch, Allen Owens, Doyle Wayne Proctor, Shannon Tapley and Jody Collins. These gentlemen are asked to meet at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m., Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the Diabetes Foundation.
Howard Holt
VALDOSTA — Funeral services for Howard Holt, 90 will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home
in Valdosta. Reverend Thomas Mason, Jr. will officiate. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery in Pulaski County, with Rainey Family Funeral Services of Cordele in charge of arrangments.
Mr. Holt died on Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at his home.
Born in Pulaski County, Georgia, June 17, 1916, he was the son of the late William and Tannie Holt. He was a Bottler with Pepsi in Valdost and Cordele for 40 years. He was director and past president of the Georgia Soft Drink Bottlers Association and was a Board Member for the Pepsi Bottlers Association. He was a Rotarian for over sixty years, and a member of the Valdosta Rotary Club for more than 50 years. Mr. Holt was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was an avid sportman and gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Montague Holt of Valdosta, a sister, Evelyn Goodbread of Lake City, Florida, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Doug Holt and a sister, Carolyn Whitlock.

REBECCA — Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl I. Haskey, 88, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 28 at The St. Williams Catholic Church in Fitzgerald, Ga.

TOMMIE BRYANT NIX
October 30, 1916 - December 18, 2010
Tommie Bryant Nix, 94, of Cartersville passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Maple Ridge Health Care Center. Born October 30, 1916 in Newton County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Bryant and the late Maude King Bryant. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Lee Nix; her granddaughter, Vickie Lynn Cowart; her son, Kenneth Nix; her daughter, Shirley Perry; two sons-in-law, Ray Cowart, and Ray Dussault; five sisters, Esalle Beck, Estelle Chastain, Mattie Tearce, Inez Reese, Caron Kennedy, and two brothers, James Bryant, and Bud Bryant.
Mrs. Nix was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, and always had a close relationship with her brothers and sisters. She was known for her positive outlook on life, her encouragement, her willingness to help others, and her love for her family and friends. She will always be missed, always loved, and always remembered. Mrs. Nix was a charter member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church of Cartersville for the past fifty-eight years, and was employed with the Union Carbide Corporation until the time of her retirement.
Survivors include her daughters, Betty Jean Cowart, and Ann Dussault; her sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Brenda Nix, and Ronnie and JoAnn Nix all of Catersville, and Peggy Nix of White; her eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Oakland Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Sammy Burgess and the Rev. Joe McKaig officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Mr. Montford died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, in Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab.

Winifred Elise Rogers
PERRY — Funeral services for Winifred Elise Rogers of Perry will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.
Ms. Rogers, 90, died in Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006.
She was born Saturday, April 8, 1916, in Dooly County, the daughter of the late Floyd Jackson Rogers and Maggie Mae Pilkinton Rogers. Ms. Rogers was a member of Perry First Baptist Church and the Jewel Sunday School Class. She was a retired desk clerk for the New Perry Hotel, a member of the Perry Business Women’s Club and the XYZ Club.
She is survived by several cousins including Beverly Thomas and her husband, Rodney and Patricia Peavy and her husband, Quinton, all of Vienna.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred Rogers and Elmer Rogers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Carolyn Alewine Addison
CORDELE — Graveside services for Carolyn Alewine Addison of Cordele will be held at 2 p.m. today at Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until time to depart for the cemetery.
Mrs. Addison, 65, died in Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele Monday, Nov. 27, 2006.
A native of Anderson County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Harmon Hand and Margaret Duncan Hand. She was a retired waitress and a member of the Baptist faith. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving her are her children, Cathy Alewine and her fiancee, Dax Richards of Cordele, Larry Alewine and his wife, Ginger of Honea Path, S.C. and Barbara Trammell of Albany; a sister, Cathy McBride of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Curtis Trammell, Travis Flowers, Adam Alewine, Allen Alewine, Andrew Alewine and his wife, Jodi, Derek Alewine and Rylee Richards; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Earl Alewine.

JAMES BROOM
February 15, 1935 - December 23, 2010
Mr. James Austin Broom, age 75, of Rome, GA, died Thursday, December 23, 2010, in a local hospital.
Mr. Broom was born in Hamilton County, TN, on February 15, 1935, the son of the late Thomas J. Broom and Effie L. Massey Broom. He served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. Mr. Broom was a member of Coosa Masonic Lodge #66 F & AM, member of the Rome Shrine Club Red Devil Unit, and a member of the Yarrab Shrine Temple. He retired in 1990 as a general manager and part owner of the Rome Fruit and Produce. Mr. Broom was a member of Wesley Chapel Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Broom was preceded in death by a son, James Broom, Jr. and four brothers, Alvin E. Broom, Kyle F. Broom, Robert C. Broom, and Ronnie C. Broom.
Survivors include his devoted wife of fifty-seven years, Annette Owens Broom of Rome; two sons and daughter-in-law, David and Lori Broom of Cave Spring and Mark and Neci Broom of Rome; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Larry Perkins of Armuchee; and grandchildren, Jennifer and Robert Davis of Kennesaw, Tommy and Joanna Perkins of Armuchee, Joshua Broom of Rome, Katy Broom of Savannah, Harmony and Chris Shiflett of Rome, Jordan Broom of Cave Spring, Jeffrey Musselwhite of Cherry Point, NC, and Kyle Musselwhite of Cave Spring; great-grandchildren, Brandon Perkins, Bruce Shiflett and Bryce Shiflett. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, December 27, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel with Rev. Max Carver officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion conducting military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel.

Christine Davis
VIENNA — Funeral services for Elder Christine Davis, 56, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 in the St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Cordele. Burial will follow in the Vienna City Cemetery.
Ms. Davis died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
She attended Dooly County public schools until the eighth grade when she transferred to Wadesboro Junior High School in Wadesboro, NC. After graduating from Bowman High School in 1968, she enrolled in Mary Holmes College in West Point, MS., and graduated in 1970 with an associate degree in elementary education. In 1972, she received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Knoxville College, Knoxville, TN. While there, she was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.
Ms. Davis’ teaching career began when she substituted as a teacher and teacher’s aid in Greenville, SC. for two years. During the summer of 1974, she taught music in Brooklyn, NY, then returned to Greenville and taught at Fuller Normal School for one year.
In 1975, Ms. Davis moved to Fort Valley and attended the present Fort Valley State University where she earned a masters degree in elementary education in 1976. That summer, she received her teaching certificate from the present Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus and began tutoring for the day treatment program at St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Cordele.
She began teaching second and third grades at Vienna Elementary School in the fall of 1976, and went on to receive a certificate in disabilities services from South Georgia Technical College.
As a child, she was a member of Oats Presbyterian Church in Vienna and later Morven Presbyterian Church in Morven, NC. She had been a faithful member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church since 1978, and became a deacon in 1980. In 2003, Ms. Davis’ dedication to God and her service elevated her to the role of elder.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Mae Davis, and her oldest brother, George Davis Jr.
Survivors include her father, George Davis Sr. of Vienna; three sisters, Alice (Marvin) Glenn of Atlanta, Ethel (Earl) Berksteiner of Savannah, and Louise Davis (Vernon) Smith of McDonough; a sister-in-law, Arthenia (George) Davis of Albany; four brothers, Lonnie Clarence Davis and Joseph Lewis (Rosa) Davis of Vienna, Willie James (Renee) Davis of Fort Valley, and Johnny Lee (Patricia) Davis Sr. of Montgomery, Ala.; 13 nieces, 12 nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
