CUMMING — Graveside services for Billie Gene King were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29 from Sunnyside Cemetery. The Rev. Damon Fountain officiated for the services, and the family greeted friends prior to the service.
Roy Hamilton
BYROMVILLE — Funeral services for Roy Hamilton, 51, were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26 in the chapel of Alvie Coes Funeral Home in Unadilla. Burial was private.
Mr. Hamilton died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, in a local hospital.
He was the son of the late Norman Hamilton Sr. and Mattie L. Hamilton. He attended Dooly County Schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include two daughters, Eushanda Hamilton and Siera Hamilton of Byromville; four brothers, Arthur Hamilton of Nashville, TN., John Hamilton of Atlanta, Lonnie Wiggins of Jacksonville, FL., and Larry Hamilton of Byromville; two sisters, Verdell Genwright of Cordele, and Lee Ann Hamilton Fulks of Jackson, MS.; three brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; two grandchildren; a devoted friend, Mary Caldwell of Byromville; and a host of other relatives.

Eileen Helms Bezanson
CORDELE — Graveside funeral services for Eileen Helms Bezanson of Upland, CA, were held Sunday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Arabi Cemetery. The Revs. Gerald Folds and Damon Fountain officated for the services which concluded with the singing of “Amazing Grace” acapella.
Serving as pallbearers were Bobby Helms, Wayne Folds, Steve Rentfrow, John Helms, Johnny Helms and Mike Helms.

CUMMING — Graveside services for Billie Gene King will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29 from Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 9-11 a.m.
Ms. King, 74, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at Northside Hospital in Cumming.
She was born in Echols County on Saturday, April 2, 1932, the daughter of the late James Francis King and the late Gladys Jean Tomlinson King. She was a retired insurance agent having worked in Florida and the Atlanta area.
Surviving her are two brothers, James F. “Johnny” King of Cumming, and Edward Dale King of Birmingham, AL.

James Edward Mixon
CORDELE - Funeral services for James Edward Mixon of Warner Robins were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service.
The Rev. Don Howell and Rev. Danny Allen conducted the service. Marcene Freeman provided the music, and accompanied herself and Rev. Royce Freeman as they sang "It is Well." Ricky Collins sang "How Great Thou Art."
Pallbearers were Bryant Nobles, Ricky Collins, Art Perry, Winston Mixon, Greg Daniels and Chris Cox. The committal service, with full Masonic Rites, was held at Sunnyside Cemetery. George Avery presented the American flag to Mr. Mixon’s wife, Kathryn Mixon.
Sarah Peebles Royal
ASHBURN — Funeral services for Sarah Peebles Royal, 94, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20 in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Royal died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, in Tift Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Dwain Bartlett
IDEAL — Funeral services for Dwain Bartlett, 58, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 21 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home of Cordele. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Mr. Bartlett died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, in Magnolia Manor in Macon County.
A native of Sumter County, he was the son of the late Hewlett and Glenna Gibbs Bartlett. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Tommy (Tammy) Bartlett of Vienna; a sister, Sheila (William) Buckalew of Cordele; two nephews, Trevor (Heather) Bartlett of Vienna, and Ashley Johnson of Cordele; and a great-nephew, Lane Bartlett of Vienna.

BIRDIE RAY
November 6, 1912 - December 6, 2010
Mrs. Birdie Margaret Ray age 98, of Rome, GA, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at her daughter’s residence.
Mrs. Ray was born in Floyd County, GA, on November 6, 1912, the daughter of the late Taylor Long and Nora Henderson Long. She loved to garden, quilt, cook, and spending time with her friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey “Doc” Ray; a brother, Jason Long; and a sister, Beedie Tolbert.
Survivors include two sons, John D. Long of Milledgeville, GA and Jud Cooper of Rome, GA; a daughter, Alice Samples of Dawsonville, GA; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Graves and Dr. Frank Wood officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel.

Mamie Lou Dixon Black
NEW JERSEY — Funeral services for Mamie Lou Dixon Black, formerly of Cordele, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22 in the sanctuary of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in the Hatley Community. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Her nephew, Minister Reginald Hardemon, will officiate.
Willard Stewart ‘Stu’ Morrow II
VIENNA — A memorial service for Willard Stewart “Stu” Morrow II will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20 in the Vienna United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ron Smith will officiate the services.
Mr. Morrow died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at his residence.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late Willard Morrow and Georgiana Fawcett Morrow. He graduated from Oliver High School and Waynesburg College and also attended the Carnegie Mellon Institute.
Of all the things Stu did in his life, as a volunteer for the ambulance squad and fire department in Irondequoit, N.Y., or as manager at Xerox or Betty Citrus in Florida, he was most proud of his children and grandchildren.
He was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church USA and served on the board of directors of Waynesburg College and the Presbyterian Home in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Stu retired in February of 2006 and he and his wife, Marilyn, came to Vienna to enjoy their retirement. Hurricanes chased them from Ft. Myers to seek the safety and solitude of Vienna. He enjoyed the historically preserved homes there.
In July, he became ill with cancer and praised the wonderful church family of Vienna United Methodist Church for their constant support through his final, difficult days.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Hunter Morrow; a daughter, Susan Morrow (Herve) Fournier of Switzerland; two sons, Willard Stewart (Brenda) Morrow III and James Hunter (Andrea) Morrow, both of Florida; and grandchildren, Dr. Ian Fournier, Zachary Fournier, Pfc. James Hunter Morrow, Emilie Fournier, Brynn Morrow, Brett Morrow and Willard Stewart Morrow IV.

ROCHELLE — Funeral services for Bessie Mae Martin, 99, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 in the chapel of Ferguson Brothers Funeral Home in Rochelle. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Abbeville. The Rev. Marcelle Willis will officiate for the services, directed by Ferguson Brothers Funeral Home.
Mrs. Martin died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, in Pineview Health Care Center, Pineview.

CORDELE — Funeral services for Minnie Harris Barther will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 in the Union Baptist Church in Montezuma.
Burial will follow in the Champ Waters Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Hairston will officiate for the services. Mrs. Barther died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006.

James W. "Jim" Morris
October 10, 1941 - April 8, 2008
Mr. James W. "Jim" Morris, 66, of Pembroke Pines, FL passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008.
Mr. Morris was born in Etowah County, AL on Oct. 10, 1941, son of Mary Jim Kennedy Morris and the late James Roy Morris. He was a graduate of Darlington Preparatory High School in Rome, GA and Auburn University, and he received his graduate degree from the University of Alabama. He worked in the field of international education for more than 30 years and retired in 2007 as Executive Director of the Association of American Schools in South America. Mr. Morris was an avid golfer, a fervent fan of Auburn football and Braves baseball, and he was also a member of St. Luke Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father James Roy Morris.
He is survived by his son, James W. (Patricia) Morris, Jr., Northport, NY; daughter, Cristina Morris, Boca Raton, FL; grandchildren, Catherine Morris, Jimmy Morris, and Kelly Morris, all of Northport, NY; mother, Mary Jim Morris, Rome, GA; best friend, Michele Morris, Boca Raton, FL.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 11, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Fuller officiating.

IRVINGTON, N.J. — Funeral services for Voncile Taylor Woodson, 54, formerly of Unadilla, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 in the Unadilla gymnasium.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Min. Mary Whitfield will officiate for the services.
Mrs. Woodson died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, in New Jersey.
Born in Dooly County, she was the daughter of Fairow Taylor Sr. and the late Carrie Mae Taylor. She attended Dooly County Schools and was employed at the Cree Mee Dairy in Unadilla for many years. In 1989, she moved to Irvington, N.J., and worked for the McDonald Corporation.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Woodson of Unadilla; two daughters, LaSandra Harrell and Shelia Harrell of Irvington, N.J.; her father, Fairow Taylor Sr. of Unadilla; a step-daughter, Patrice Woodson of Pennsylvania; her brothers and sisters, Jan Taylor, Armanda Taylor, Richard Taylor and Fairow (Peggy) Taylor Jr. all of Unadilla, Barbara Wynn, Carol Taylor, Sarah (Forest) Ward, Gwen Sutton and Calvin Taylor all of Warner Robins, Rickey Taylor Hawkinsville, Fredrick (Sholandra) Taylor Macon, Lawrence (Shonika) Taylor of Perry, George (Lois) Taylor of Philadelphia, and Roy Taylor of Detroit; her mother-in-law, Mattie Cherry of Unadilla; seven grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; three aunts; five uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.
