ABBEVILLE — Funeral services for Ellen L. Miller, 66, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 in the Abbeville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Carter will officiate for the services which will be directed by Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the church.
Ms. Miller died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, in Dodge County Hospital.
Ditavious Anwar Oliver
CORDELE — Funeral services for Ditavious Anwar Oliver will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 in the sanctuary of New Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. His aunt, Minister Angela Oliver Bailey, will officiate for the services.
Mr. Oliver died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006.
Survivors include his parents, Jacqueline A. Oliver and Bobby Jones of Cordele; sisters, Tomika (Thomas) Phelps of Jacksonville, Fla., Berinthia (Elijah) Oliver and Lavashia (James) Oliver of Cordele; brothers, Keadriano (Teresa) Oliver of Cordele, and Derrick Carter of Fitzgerald; his grandfather, Deacon Curtis (Elois) Jones of Cordele; aunts and uncles, Minister Angela (Thomas) Bailey of Atlanta, Rosemary (Daryl) Hall of Ashburn, Del Marie Smith, Shirley (Benny) Ross, Rosalyn (Victor) Oliver, Valerie Oliver, Donna Oliver, Janice (Lloyd) Anderson, Debra (Jerry) Parker, Mary (Roy) Evans, Michael Oliver, Kenneth P. EDSELL FORD BALLEW
December 21, 1927 - December 10, 2010
Mr. Edsell Ford Ballew, age 82, of Rome, GA died Friday, December 10, 2010 in a local healthcare center.
Mr. Ballew was born in Blue Ridge, GA on December 21, 1927, the son of the late Vern Ballew and Ella Conley Ballew. Mr. Ballew was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. He enjoyed listening to country music and watching old western movies. In addition to his parents Mr. Ballew was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Ballew and Jack Ballew and a sister, Wanda Ballew.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Seabolt Ballew; a son, Eddie Ballew of Rome; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gail Ballew of Rome and Anita and Tim Land of Rome; grandchild, Keith Land and his wife, Leslie of Rome; great-grandchildren, Madison and Jadon Land; brother, Bill Ballew of Blue Ridge, GA, sister, Media Roe of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. with Dr. Dale Levan officiating. iIntermentto follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:30 P.M. until the funeral hour at the Oaknoll Chapel.

Mrs. Gillie Ann Arther, age 84, of Rome, GA, died Monday, October 19, 2009 in a Rome hospital.
Mrs. Arther wasd born in Belleville, Illinois on September 29, 1925. Prior to retirement Mrs. Arther was employed as a licensed practical nurse with Floyd Hospital. She was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church. In addition to her parents Mrs. Arther was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Arther, a brother, J.W. Pollard and two sisters, Vivian Mason and Lillian Smith.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Bruce White of Coosa, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer Williams of Summerville, GA and James Wilbur Hardin of Centre, AL.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Arther will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings and Miller Funeral Home.

ATLANTA — Funeral services for George Royal Jr., formerly of Cordele, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 in the sanctuary of Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Isaac H. Owens will officiate for the services.
Mr. Royal died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Royal of Chicago, Ill.; sons, Frederic Royal of Houston, Texas, and Vermont Royal of Alabama; step-children, Wesley and Minika; sisters, Edith (Arthur) Outlaw of College Park and Phyllis (Raymond) Dollison of Jonesboro; brothers, Willie (Gin-Sun) Royal of Valdosta, Eddie (Gwen) Royal of Cordele, and Frank (Daniella) Royal of Jonesboro; a special aunt, Dorothy S. Dor’Shay Keyonna Evans and D’Jenay Shantell Evans
PINEHURST — Graveside services for Dor’Shay Keyonna Evans and D’Jenay Shantell Evans, infant daughters of James Earl Evans and Lorinda Evans of Pinehurst, will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 in the Mt. Moriah Church cemetery in Unadilla. The Rev. J.C. Baker willl officiate for the services.
The Evans twins died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, in a local hospital.
Maria Josefa Pages Juaristi
1901-2004
Maria Josefa Pagés Juaristi died of natural causes on December 6, 2004 at the age of 103 in Athens, GA.
Señora Pagés Juaristi was born on June 8, 1901 in Jaguey Grande, Cuba. She graduated from the University of Havana in 1927 and was among the first women to graduate with a pharmacy degree in Cuba.
She married
Octavio Pagés Cantón, a judge and artist, in 1928. She and her husband left Cuba in 1969 and moved to Athens, Georgia, to live with family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Crescencia Gabiola Uriarte and José Ignacio Juaristi Acaiturri, as well as several brothers and sisters. Her family’s roots originated in the Basque region of Spain, an area famed for fiercely independent and long-lived people.
She will be remembered by her family as a highly intelligent and formidable individual with an indomitable spirit. Her love of animals was worthy of St. Francis´approval. She never stopped loving Cuba. Her wicked sense of humor and sharp mind were a source of constant amazement to those around her.
She is survived by her son, José R. Pagés, a daughter-in-law, Teresita Pagés, and grandchildren Pilar Pagés, Nell Oliff, Héctor Pagés, Maria Pagés Center, David Olliff and Ken Hedrick. She is also survived by nieces and nephews in Miami and in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as well as numerous caregivers ( Maria Jovel, Rita Ayala, Leonela Rebollar, Amada López, Aida and Angélica) who took loving care of her in her final years.
The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at the UGA Catholic Center by Rev. Fr. Jack McDowell on December 7th, 2004. Burial was held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Roger Howard
ASHBURN — Funeral services for Roger Howard, 62, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 10 in Perry Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Howard died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at his residence following a brief illness.
Violet "Pat" Johnson
1921-2004
Athens, Ga
Violet Elizabeth Bolin “Pat” Johnson passed away Saturday Nov. 13 after an extended battle with alzheimer’s disease.
Born June 26, 1921 in Clover, South Carolina, she was raised in Gastonia, North Carolina. She joined the Navy during WWII where she met and married
the late John Howard Johnson of Athens.
Survivors include six children Johnny, Steve, Dan, Phil, Tim and Ellen; three daughters in laws Sarah and Jan Johnson and Laurie Fowler: brother Banks Bolin; six grandchildren Betsy, Ben, Haley, Amble, Jessica and Sam Johnson.
Graveside services will be held at 2PM Monday, November 15, at Evergreen Memorial Park with Dr. Walter G. Cook officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence, 225 Harben Place.
She made everybody around her better.

Johnny P. Rouse
VIENNA — Graveside funeral services were conducted for Johnny P. Rouse, 61, at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2006. Rev. Al Wilborn and Rev. Melvin Slappey officiated for the service, and Rev. Slappey sang "They Will Never Throw Away the Rock" acapella. Burial followed in the Vienna City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were John K. Rouse, Jeb Slappey, Trin Patrick, Andy Rouse, Anthony Rouse and David Rouse.
Mr. Rouse died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
A native of Colquitt County, he was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War and owner of Rouse Wholesale Foliage in Vienna.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnye C. Rouse of Vienna; a son, John K. Rouse of Vienna and his wife Micah; a daughter, Crystal Rouse of Vienna; his step-children, Richard Bagwell of Pope City, Fla., and Lajuana Bagwell of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Tillman Rouse of Sylvester, and Lenard Rouse of Milledgeville; three sisters, Margaret McDonald of Sylvester, Juanita Coleman of Tifton, and Margie Ann "Yanchak" Case of New Britain, Conn.; and two grandchildren, Cullen Rouse and Hannah Rouse of Sasser.
Visitation was held prior to the service.

Dicease Latrell Walker
CORDELE — Little Dicease Latrell Walker, the two year old daughter of Mr. Frederick and Mrs. Nancy Cheese Walker died Friday as a result of a mobile home fire in Rochelle.
Funeral services will be announced later.

WILMA JEAN WARNER
July 22, 1926 - December 20, 2010
Wilma Jean Ellington Warner, age 84, of Rome, passed away at h er home on Monday, December 20, 2010.
Mrs. Warnerwas born in Rome, GA on July 22, 1926, daughter of the late William B. Ellington and Salley Peyton Ellington. She was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Mrs. Warner graduated from McHenry High School. She attended Coosa Valley Tech where she received her LPN. She was later accepted into a special program at Berry College where she received her RN degree. She served as a nurse at Floyd County Hospital for 20 years and was a nursing supervisor in the Psychiatric Department of Floyd Hospital at her retirement. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, “The Magnificent Magnolias”. She was preceded in death by sisters, Lilly Mae Wood, Annie Belle Brock, Inez Chandler, Gladys Watson, Sarah Sprayberry and by brothers, John, Raymond and Roland Ellington. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth Deibert.
Survivors include the following children and spouses; Nancy (Mac) Eubanks of Armuchee, Jeanne Barnes of Rome, Sally (Ed) Leverett of Adairsville, GA, Sue (Wallace) Love of Lawrenceville, GA, Barbara Clark of Eden, N.C., John (Ann) Barnes of Carrollton, GA and Mark (Lori) Collins of Cedar Bluff, AL. A large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
A special thanks from all the extended family to her granddaughter, Bethany Delbert Plummer who became a caregiver in recent months.
Mrs. Warner has donated her remains to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and her desire was that there would be no funeral or memorial service at this time. At an undetermined future point there will be a memorial.
