Barnett Mitchem
1913-2004
Barnett Malcom Mitchem, 90, of Thomson died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 after a long battle with cancer and heart disease.
A native of Morgan County, Mr. Mitchem was a son of the late Charles E. and Mary Veale Mitchem. His wife, Ruby Porter Mitchem, preceded him in death. He was a very successful grocer and owned several food stores in the Atlanta area. He moved to Hernando Beach, Florida, where he lived for 29 years, he was a successful real estate developer. He moved to Thomson in 2003. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Far East and was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include a brother, C.E. Mitchem and his wife, Frances, of Conyers; sisters-in-law: Lois Mitchem of Atlanta and Sarah Mitchem of Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his lifelong friend and companion, Hazel Turner, of Thomson and special friends Michael and Sandra Turner of Harlem, GA.
Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Willoughby cemetery on highway 15 south of Watkinsville with the Rev. Paul Vickery officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 at Bernstein Funeral Home.

Winifred Elise Rogers
PERRY — Funeral services for Winifred Elise Rogers of Perry will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.
Ms. Rogers, 90, died in Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006.
She was born Saturday, April 8, 1916, in Dooly County, the daughter of the late Floyd Jackson Rogers and Maggie Mae Pilkinton Rogers. Ms. Rogers was a member of Perry First Baptist Church and the Jewel Sunday School Class. She was a retired desk clerk for the New Perry Hotel, a member of the Perry Business Women’s Club and the XYZ Club.
She is survived by several cousins including Beverly Thomas and her husband, Rodney and Patricia Peavy and her husband, Quinton, all of Vienna.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred Rogers and Elmer Rogers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Chiafung Hsu Chen
1916-2004
Parsippany, NJ
Chiafung Hsu Chen, 88, passed away on December 26, 2004 in New Jersey.
She is survived by 2 children; Chanho Chen of Parsippany and Hubert Chen of Winterville.
Memorial Services will begin at 10:00 am Sunday January 16th at Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel.

Hugh Beard
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18 at Cordelia Manor, 1307 Blackshear Road, Cordele.
Mr. Beard, 57, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006.
He was born in Vienna to Hugh and Mary Doris Beard.
Survivors include his wife, Brigitte Beard; a son, Andrew Beard; daughter, Suzanne (Vince) Ammirato; a granddaughter, Bella Ammirato; and his mother, Doris Beard.
Arrangements are being handled by Hansen Mortuary, Phoenix, Ariz.
William Grayer Searcy
SYCAMORE — Funeral services for William Grayer Searcy, 96, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 17 in the Sycamore Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery.
Mr. Searcy died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, in Tift Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was a native and life-long resident of Turner County and was the son of the late Will and Etta Mae Royal Searcy. He was a retired farmer and businessman and member of the Sycamore Methodist Church. He served as a member of the Turner County Board of Commissioners over a span of 50 years.
Survivors include his wife of 76 years, Hazel Clements Searcy of Sycamore; three grandchildren, Leigh Ann Riley and W. Christopher Searcy both of Albany, and Dawn S. Swanson of Pine Mountain; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruby Barry of Sycamore, and Sue Myrick of Macon.

Luther C. Davis Sr.
PINEHURST — Funeral services for Deacon Luther C. “Lemon” Davis Sr., 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 in the Evergreen Baptist Church in Pinehurst. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Pastor David Thomas will officiate for the services.
Mr. Davis died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, in Crisp Regional Hospital.
He was the son of the late Lee Davis and Allene Bembry Davis. He attended Dooly County Schools and was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons. He recently retired from Planters Warehouse after 48 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Willie Mae Davis of Pinehurst; six children, Eddie Owens and Luther C. Davis Jr. of Pinehurst, Frances (Johnny Lee) Burnam of Vienna, Karen (Lester) Myrick of Macon, Katheryne Davis of Atlanta, and Edward Owens of Pennsylvania; a sister, Bertha Mae Coes of Atlanta; a devoted granddaughter, Tawatha Davis of Pinehurst; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m., and the family may be contacted at the residence on Railroad Street in Pinehurst.

Eva Leggett Hunt
VIENNA — Funeral services for Eva Leggett Hunt will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 in the sanctuary of Bay Point CME Church in Byromville with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. James Morton will officiate for the services.
Mrs. Hunt died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006. She was employed as the dietary manager at Pinehill Nursing Center in Byromville for 31 years.
The processional will be led by Rev. Morton and a special selection will be sung by the children. The Rev. John Adams will offer prayer and the Rev. R.C. King will read Scripture. Mary Green will sing a solo and reflections will be given by family members, friends and former co-workers.
Earl Clark Jr. will sing a solo and the family will be presented with an African-American heirloom Bible as a keepsake from the funeral home staff.
Survivors include her husband, Charles E. CORDELE — Funeral services for Ernest Lee Reese, 57, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 in Beulahland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hardshell cemetery in Crisp County.
Mr. Reese died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, in an Albany hospital.
He was a member of Nile Chapel Baptist Church and was retired from Holmes Tire & Auto of Cordele after 30 years of employment. He also was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam Conflict.

Thomas E. Nunnally
WARNER ROBINS — Thomas E. Nunnally, 78, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006.
Services were held on Dec. 8 in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home with entombment in the Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
Mr. Nunnally was born in Banks County, the son of the late Ben and Lizzie Carlan Nunnally. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a Jehovah’s Witness. He was a retired hydraulic shop supervisor from Robins Air Force Base and also retired from Engineering Associates in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Ira Lee Nunnally of Warner Robins; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Charles Timmons of Pitts; grandson, Charles T. Timmons of Macon; granddaughter, Tracy Timmons Jones of Tifton; three great-grandchildren, Josie, Dalton and Anslee Jones; a sister, Bobbie Brock of Homer; brothers and sister-in-law, R.T. Nunnally and Betty of Douglasville, and Roy Nunnally of Colbert.

James M. ‘Jimmy’ Moore Jr.
LILLY — A memorial service for James M. “Jimmy” Moore Jr., 56, will be held at 11 a.m. today in Bakerfield Baptist Church. Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Vienna has charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Moore died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, in an Albany hospital.
Hugh H. Rewis
ALBANY — Funeral services for Hugh H. Rewis, 62, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20 in the Albany Christian Church with the Rev. Buddy Harris officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. in Adel at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Rewis died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Born May 9, 1944, in Lowndes County, he had lived in Albany since 1978. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Adel, but was affiliated with Albany Christian Church where he rededicated his life and knew the joy of the Lord. He was a Snap-On Tools dealer for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Suzan M. Rewis of Albany; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tommy and Ann Rewis and Shane Rewis of Maryville, Tenn.; his beloved granddaughter, Ariel Hughes of Maryville, Tenn.; his mother, Ruby Register Rewis Dempsey of Adel; a brother and sister-in-law, Vona and Becky Rewis of Adel; a special caregiver, Jayne Carman of Albany; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie “J.W.” Rewis, a sister, Laverne Boone, and a brother, Lavon Rewis.
Visitation will be from 7:30-9 p.m. today at Matthews Funeral Home of Albany.
The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the funeral service.
