UNADILLA — Funeral services for Jo Ann W. Flournoy, 69, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5 in the Unadilla United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Elko Cemetery.

Mrs. Flournoy died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at her residence.
Gordon Lee Saylor
ASHBURN — Funeral services for Gordon Lee Saylor, 96, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 in Perry Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Saylor died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, in Tift Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Laura R. Royal
VIENNA — Funeral services for Laura Rowland Royal, 42, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 6 in the Vienna First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Mrs. Royal died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at her residence.
Born on Mother’s Day, May 10, 1964, in Columbus, Mrs. Royal was a 1992 graduate of Americus High School and attended Georgia Southwestern State University, South Georgia Technical College and Columbus State University. She was the administrative assistant to the warden of Dooly State Prison until her health declined.
Survivors include her husband, Chris Royal of Vienna; her children, Lee Jackson Royal, Sara Elizabeth Royal and Zachary Hunter Royal, all of Vienna; her parents, Jerry and Dianne Rowland of Americus; her maternal grandmother, Frances D. Holland of Americus; a sister, Jennifer (Allen) Ledger of Americus; a brother, Jerry M. (Dana) Rowland Jr. of Byron; and nephews, Matthew and Jeremy Ledger of Americus, and Bryce Rowland of Byron.
Mrs. Royal had been the South Georgia representative for “Family Voices, ” working to obtain services for medically fragile children. The family requests that memorial gifts in her name be sent to Family Voices Inc., 2340 Alamo SE, Suite 102, Albuquerque, N.M. 87106. William Henry Nutt
WARWICK - Funeral services for William Henry Nutt were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at Acorn Pond Baptist Church. Rev. James Spires and Rev. Tony Register conducted the services and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
Soft music was provided by Linda Deariso, pianist. Gary Fowler accompanied himself on the guitar as he sang "Amazing Grace", "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "I Won’t Have To Worry Anymore."
Pallbearers were Tim Law, Thomas Law, Christopher Nutt, Milton Bass, Clay Bass and Gene Bass. iIntermentwas at Odom-Story cemetery in Worth County.
Mr. Nutt, 78, died at Cordele Health & Rehab in Cordele Friday, Feb. 2, 2007. A native of Dooly County, he was born Saturday, June 2, 1928, the son of the late William Oscar Nutt and Lillian Ella Holly Nutt.
Mr. Nutt was a mechanic (RET) at the Marine Corp Logistics Base in Albany and a member of Acorn Pond Baptist Church.
Surviving him are his wife, Mable C. Nutt of Warwick; his children and their spouses, William Oscar and Annette Nutt of Mesquite, TX, Frank and Carol Nutt of Whigham, Dottie and George Brown of Coverdale and Larry and Nikki Aultman of Calhoun; a sister and her husband, Lorene and Roy Mixon of Warner Robins; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday, Feb. 4 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Elbert Newton Whitmore Jr.
1915-2005
Elbert Newton Whitmore Jr., 89, of Riverhill Drive died Wednesday, July 13, 2005.
Mr. Whitmire, a native of Greenville, SC, was the son of the late Elbert and Harriet Wilson Whitmire, Sr. and was preceded in death by his wife Louise Verdel Whitmire and sister Lucy Whitmire Outlaw.
A 1936 graduate of the University of Georgia, Mr. Whitmire served, as a major, under Gen. George Patton in the 66th Armored Regiment of the 2nd Armored Division. He also served in North Africa, Sicily, and France and was injured in St. Lou, France. Mr. Whitmire owned and operated Whitmire Furniture Company for over 46 years, was a member of the Clarke County Planning Commission, The Athens Country Club and Athens City Club. He was also the past president of the Georgia Retail Furniture Association, a member of the retired Officers Club and a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include son and daughter in law, Elbert and Linda Whitmire, III of Athens; daughter and son in law Florence and Wayne Wier of Fernandina Beach, FL; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM Saturday at the Athens First United Methodist with Rev. Grady Wigley and Rev. Wesley Stephens officiating. A private family interment will follow in Oconee Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bernstein from 6-8PM Friday. The family asks that in lieu of flowers for contributions to be made to the First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 327 N. Lumpkin Street, Athens, Ga 30601.
Members of the Tuck's Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Marie Pitts Mitchell
ASHBURN — Funeral services for Marie Pitts Mitchell, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 in the Ashburn First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery in Ashburn.
Mrs. Mitchell died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at her residence following a brief illness.
Born in Milan, Mrs. Mitchell had resided in Ashburn since 1956. She was the daughter of the late Robert Perry Pitts Sr. and Lona Oliver Pitts. She was a member of the Ashburn First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Griffin-Saxon Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women.
She retired from the Turner County Board of Education after teaching from 1956-1963, and later retired as the Curriculum Director for the Turner County School System. She received her bachelor of science degree from the Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro and later received her master’s in education degree and her Education Specialist’s degree from the University of Georgia. She was a former PAGE field representative and a former member of the Board of Directors of First South Bank.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert P. “Bob” and Teresa Mitchell of Ashburn; her grandchildren, Mary Margaret M. (Todd) Fincher of Orange, Calif., Anne Catherine M. (Mitch) Raines of Cordele, and Robert Patrick Mitchell of Ashburn; and a great-grandchild, Sara Ruth Raines of Cordele. Mrs. Mitchell was also anxiously awaiting the birth of another great-granddaughter in late February.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Perry Pitts Jr. and Oliver Jackson Pitts, and sisters, Margaret Sue Dickens and Jane Pitts Jarman.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashburn First United Methodist Church or United Hospice of Cordele.

ABBEVILLE — Funeral services for Brandon Caine Randall, 32, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8 in the Abbeville First Baptist Church with the Revs. James Faircloth and Chuck Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Stubbs Cemetery.
Mr. Randall died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, in Abbeville.
Mary Braswell Britt
CORDELE - Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. for Mary Braswell Britt at Pleasant View Baptist Church cemetery in Wilcox County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. today.
Ms. Britt, 75, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Crisp Regional Hospital.
A native of Crisp County, she was the daughter of the late Milton A. Braswell and the late Merva Mae Clark Braswell. She was a homemaker and member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, James Britt and his wife, Shelia of Pitts, Charles Britt and his wife, Kay of Reynolds, and Ray Britt of Hawkinsville; a daugther, Pamela Ann Egeland and her husband, John of Abbeville; a brother, Robert Braswell and his wife, Emily of Atlanta and eight grandchildren.

Willie James Hall
CORDELE — Funeral services for honoring U.S. Army Veteran Deacon Willie James Hall will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of the Gethsemane Baptist Church, The Rev. L. D. Cobb, Sr. will officiate, and burial will follow in the Bethel cemetery with military honors.
Deacon Hall died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
He was a dedicated father of six children who worked for Nehi Beverage Co. of Cordele, starting in 1956 after completing his military service with an honorable discharge from the 530 Engineering Brigade Co., U.S. Army.
He served his country from Feb. 6, 1953 until Feb. 19, 1955. During his tour of duty, he was cited with decorations and medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal, (Germany) and Good Conduct Medal.
Following his military service, he moved his family to Philadelphia, PA and worked at Bato Hiezer Steel Manufacturing Co. for a number of years before returning to Cordele in 1973. He began work in June, 1975 with GA-Pacific Corp. and retired on Dec. 31, 1993.
Deacon Hall was ordained as a deacon on April 13, 1975 at the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Cordele. He served in that capacity until his untimely death.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years Mary Jane Fish Hall of Cordele; his children, Willie (Patricia), Johnny (Carol), James (Clara), Vivian (Oscar), Lavater (Stanley), and Vanessa. He leaves a legacy of 27 adored grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren. One loving sister, Hazel Williams and a host of relatives, in-laws and sorrowing friends also survive.
Friends and relatives are asked to always remember him as a man who shared laughter and love.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Gethemane Baptist Church Educational Memorial Scholarship Foundation in the name of Deacon Willie James “Smokey” Hall.
