John N. ‘Nip’ Waters
ARABI — Funeral services for John N. “Nip” Waters of Arabi will be held at 4 p.m. today, March 11 in Arabi Baptist Church. iIntermentwill follow at Arabi Cemetery.
Mr. Waters, 87, died at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany Thursday, March 8, 2007.
He was born Saturday, Feb. 14, 1920, in Turner County and was the son of the late James Benjamin and Willie Odessa Nipper Waters. Mr. Waters was the former mayor and retired Post Master of Arabi. He was a member of Arabi Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and was an Army veteran of World War II. He also served in the European Theater and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
Mr. Waters is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edna Mae Bailey Waters of Arabi; seven children and their spouses, Marcus and Loida Waters of Cordele, Kathryn and Tracy Walls of Arabi, Cheris and Alan Gardner of Cordele, Lucille and Jim Sewell of Hazlehurst, J.C. Waters of Vienna, Juanita Waters of Arabi, and Bradley Waters of Gainesville; a sister, Helen W. Wishum of Americus; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gwen Evans; five sisters, Emily Cortez Watson, Edna Earl Brannen, Evelyn West, Flossie Mae Dameron and Winnifred James; and a brother, Jessie W. Waters.

Roy Lee Walker
CORDELE — Funeral services for Veteran Roy Lee Walker will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2007, in the sanctuary of Beulahland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery in the Hatley Community. The Rev. Chester Askins will officiate the services.
Leonard Lester Sanders
ABBEVILLE — Graveside services for Leonard Lester Sanders of Abbeville were held Monday, March 12, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Zion Hope cemetery in Crisp County.
Mr. Sanders, 74, died at his residence Saturday, March 10, 2007.
He was born Sunday, April 17, 1932, in Gainesville and was the son of the late Vanburn and Zester Stripling Sanders. He was a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry and a member of Listonia Christian Mission Church.
He is survived by two step-sons, Harold Kennedy of Abbeville and Wayne Kennedy of Pitts; five step-daughters, Dorothy Fuson of Lagrange, Jeanie Peavy of Pitts, Louise Hall of Blackshear, Rachel Laney of Pineview and Joan White of Tifton; his caregiver, Berven Dickens of Abbeville; a daughter-in-law, Liz Bartlett of Pitts; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his companion, Lucy B. West.

Buford E. Turner
CORDELE — Graveside services for Buford E. Turner, 88, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11 at Sunnyside Cemetery. The Rev. John Earls officiated the services.
Mr. Turner died Friday, March 9, 2007, in Cordele Health & Rehab.
A native of Dooly County, he was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include a son, Harold Turner of Vienna; step-sons, Robert Johnson and Larry Johnson both of Cordele; a daughter, Tammie Lewis of Cordele; and step-daughters, Mary Densmore of Atlanta, Betty Stewart of Gainesville, and Patricia Dean of Cordele.

Jewell Hamlin
PINEVIEW - Graveside services for Jewell Hamlin, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 14 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Blake Westbrook officiating.
Mrs. Hamlin died Monday, March 12, 2007, in Hawkinsville.
A native of Wilcox County, she was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and the Eastern Star for many years. She was a retired postal clerk and employee of Clements Drug Store. She was a volunteer at Pineview Health Care Center and loved to bake cookies and bread for her family and friends.
Survivors include two sisters, Bernice (Jose) Benitez and Maude Hardy of Pineview; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the building fund at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Pineview.
Visitation will be held following the graveside service in the social hall of the church.

Henry Hoover Allen
CORDELE - Funeral services for Henry Hoover Allen, 78, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2007 at Cordele First Baptist Church.
Dr. John Smith, III and Rev. Harold Sangster conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements. Imogene Gilliam, pianist, played soft music and Billy White, soloist, sang "Sweet Beulah Land" and "I Can Only Imagine." He closed the service with "The Lord’s Prayer."
Pallbearers were Dan Spires, M.H. Allen, Leonard Fletcher, R.C. Chatting, Johnny Hillmon and Jerry Butler. The committal service was in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Elaine Eason
ROCHELLE — Elaine Eason, 54, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at her residence.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel of Frazier and Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. in the chapel.
iIntermentwill be at 2 p.m. in the Swearingen cemetery in Byromville. The Revs. Talmadge Wilcox and Jimmy Gauthier will officiate.
Mrs. Eason was born on Feb. 26, 1953 in Macon County. She was formerly of Byromville, having lived the past 27 years in Rochelle. She was daughter of the late Joseph John Russell and Grace Ray Russell. She was of the Baptist faith and was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Russell in 1989.
Survivors include her husband, Danny Eason of Rochelle; a daughter, Amber Eason of Rochelle; a sister, Laurice Gettys of Tampa, Fla.; and several devoted nieces and nephews.

Bendrick Martraveous Alexander Jr.
CORDELE — Funeral services for Bendrick Martraveous Alexander Jr., 7, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17 in the sanctuary of the New Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Hardshell Cemetery. The Rev. W.W. Wilson will officiate the services.
Master Alexander died Friday, March 9, 2007.

Henry Howard Hale
Henry Howard Hale, 85, of Chattanooga died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at his residence. He was the owner and operator of Hales Lawn Service and Landscaping Co. until his retirement with over 30 years of service. Mr. Hale was born June 16, 1916, to Nola Ann Sauls and Tommy Hale in DeKalb County, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters; and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Murphy Hale; daughter, Jeannette Hale Richey; sons and daughters-in-laws, Dwayne and Donna Hale and Max and Lila Hale; grandchildren, Lisa and Christian Bennett, Keith and Tracey Richey, Emily Hale, Amanda and Gabe Smith, Jennifer, Callie, Joy and Howard Hale Jr., all of Chattanooga; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Maranatha Baptist Church with Rev. Luther Eslinger, Rev. Billy Dean and Rev. John Collins officiating. Entombment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Mr. Hale's honor to your favorite charity.
Sonya Lynn Morgan
Sonya Lynn Morgan, 38, of East Ridge died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County and was of the Baptist faith. She was employed at Wally's Restaurant in East Ridge as a cook. She was preceded in death by her father, Forrest T. Scott.
Survivors include one son, Branden Morgan; one daughter, Rachelle Morgan, both of East Ridge; mother and stepfather, Jackie and Lyle Brown of Chattanooga; one brother, Forrest Duane Scott; two sisters, Marcy Caylor and Kim Ricketts; and maternal grandmother, Edith M. Hanscom, all of Chattanooga.

Elizabeth Vance
Elizabeth Vance, A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Miss Vance was a member of Concord Baptist Church. She was a past member of the Brainerd Hills Garden Club.
Miss Vance was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel D. Jr. and Myrtice Vance; sisters, Frances Farrar and Dorothy Vance; and brother, Daniel B. Vance III.
Services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church with Rev. David King officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.
Mary Smith
Mary Smith, She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Owen Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Smith Vittetoe of Chattanooga and Cassandra Smith Koogle of Hurlock, Md.; two grandsons, John W. Doub III of Chattanooga and Richard Scott Koogle of Ashburn, Va., and their wives, Tammy Thurman Doub and Susan Cooper Koogle; four great-grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Hope Doub, John Andrew Doub and Patrick Thurman Doub, all of Chattanooga, and William Noel Stanz of Ashburn; and special cousin, Nancy Carol Ball of Baltimore.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday in Woodlawn Cemetery. There will be no local visitation here in Chattanooga. The body has been taken to Henry W. Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home in Baltimore, Md. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Patty Minnie A. Lingerfelt
Patty Minnie A. Lingerfelt, 82, formerly of Rossville, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, in Pensacola, Fla.
Survivors include son, Darrell Lingerfelt, Gulf Breeze, Fla.; sister Gwindolene "Billie" Nichols, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood cemetery with Rev. Darrell Henry officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
Nancy A. Myers
Nancy A. Myers, age 61, of Eastman, Georgia, died Friday, May 31, 2002, in Eastman, after a lengthy illness. An alumnus of GPS, she was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga and held a masters degree from the University of Tennessee School of Social Work. Ms. Myers was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She worked at Travelers Aid and Chattanooga Psychiatric Clinic in Chattanooga before assuming a position with the Wilmington Child Guidance Center in Wilmington, Delaware. Ms. Myers was the daughter of the late Mose C. Alverson.
Survivors are her mother, Margaret C. Alverson; aunts, Gay Ruhlman and Adelene Cotter; close friend, Paul A. Lane Jr., Eastman, Ga.; and several cousins.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002 at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Rev. David Harr officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
