James M. ‘Mutt’ Nobles

PITTS — Funeral services for James M. “Mutt” Nobles will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, April 3 at Union Baptist Church in Pitts.

Mr. Nobles died Sunday, April 1, 2007 in Pulaski County following an extended illness.

Born Feb. 12, 1931 in Wilcox County, he was married to his childhood sweetheart, Geneva, for 53 years and was blessed with three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He retired from Robins Air Force Base after 32 years of civil service, was the groundskeeper for Union Baptist Church and cemetery and later sold fruits and vegetables in Wilcox and surrounding counties.

Mr. Nobles was an active member of Union Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, was a deacon for many years, was former Sunday school superintendent and church clerk. He also was a volunteer with Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief and worked with the Baptist Builders.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva M. Nobles; daughters, Vickie (Jerry) Rhodes of Pineview, Jean (Tim) Rutherford of Pitts, and Patsy (Billy) Hawkins of Rochelle; grandchildren, Dennis (Becky) Rhodes, Niesi Hawkins (Jamie) Ashe, Ashley Rhodes (Chris) Eason, Kasi Rutherford, Chad Hawkins and Taylor Rutherford; and one great-grandson, Jackson Rhodes.

The family will accept may be made to the Union Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Jerry Rhodes, 1075 Dozier Road, Pineview, Ga., 31071.

Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle has charge of the arrangements.

Margaret O. Walker

ASHBURN — Funeral services for Margaret O. Walker, 74, will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 3 in the Ashburn First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Walker died Saturday, March 31, 2007 in Tift Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

Ada Maxine Jones

CORDELE — Graveside services for Ada Maxine Jones of Cordele will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5 at Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele.

Mrs. Jones, 82, died at Crisp Regional Hospital Monday, April 2, 2007.

A native of Gypsy, Okla., she was the daughter of the late Mose Garfield and Katherine Gertrude Weaver Starrett and the widow of James C. Jones. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker.

She is survived by her children, Janice Maxine Espe and her husband, Arden of Vienna, Chris Powell and her husband, Danny, JerleWayne Jones and Jean Jones, Curtis Ray Jones and Eric Alan Jones, all of Cordele; two brothers, Freelin Starrett of Capitola, Calif., and Mose Garlin Starrett of Sand Springs, Okla.; three sisters, Opal Stidham, Valejo, Calif., Viola Mae Brinsfield of Wewoka, Okla., and Lorene McCadams of Sapulpa, Okla.; six grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Keith and Tamela Espe, Melissa Dawn and James Bailley, Kelly Wayne Jones, Debra Gayle Espe, Jaimie Danielle and Chris Nutt and Cellesse Amanda Jones; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley Laurel Black, Kassidy Rae Powell, James Austin Bailey and Dakota Dillion Walker.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gayle Jones and a brother, Oliver Starrett.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

Peter John Dyson
1923-2004
Athens, GA

Peter John Dyson, 81, died at home Wednesday, August 25, 2004.

A native of Toronto, Canada, Mr. Dyson was a son of the late James John and Kate Smith Dyson. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Gwen Andrews of Ontario, Canada, Leroy Dyson of Utah, Irene Beale and Betty Duckworth both of Toronto, Canada. He retired from the University of Georgia School Of Forestry where he was a professor for 23 years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was Stake Patriarch. He will always be remembered by many in Athens for his love and generosity towards everyone he met. He always found time to speak to people and could be counted on for any help that was needed.

Survivors include his wife, Gwyneth Dyson of Athens; sons: John A. Dyson of Fukuoka, Japan, James E. Dyson of Athens, and Paul L. Dyson of Kailua, Hawaii; sisters: Dorothy Smith of Ontario, Canada and Margaret Leeder of British Columbia, Canada; brother, Keith Dyson of Manitoba, Canada; grandchildren: James Dyson of Colorado, Jennifer Dyson, Joshua Dyson and Justin Dyson all of Athens, Piper Boswell of Louisiana, Ryan Dyson and Whitney Watford both of Hawaii, Hannah Dyson, Samuel Dyson and Elizabeth Dyson all of Japan; and one great-grandson, Seth Watford.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the Latter-day Saints Church, 706 Whitehead Road with Bishop George McLain officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday and Friday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 at Bernstein Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Hospice, P.O. Box 6588, Athens, GA 30604.

Ada Maxine Jones

CORDELE - Graveside services for Ada Maxine Jones were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Sunnyside Cemetery. The Rev. David Clark conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Mrs. Jones’ grandchildren, Mike Espe, Missy Bailey, Kelly Jones, Debbie Espe, Jaimie Nutt and Cellesse Jones. The great-grandchildren, Ashley Black, Kassie Powell, Austin Bailey and Cody Walker served as honorary pallbearers.

Peggy Y. Massey

BYROMVILLE - Peggy Youngblood Massey, 59 of Byromville passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. today, April 4, in the Byromville Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Overton and Rev. Ed Sandefur officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Swearingen cemetery near Byromville.

Mrs. Massey was born in Dooly County in 1947, and was the daughter of the late Robert E. Youngblood and Addie Baggett Youngblood.

She was a bank teller with Royal Bank of Canada – Centura in Montezuma. She was a faithful member of the Byromville Baptist Church where she served as church secretary and Sunday school teacher. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her brother, W. Joseph Youngblood.

Survivors include her husband, George Massey of Byromville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Mark Smith of Pinehurst; Pam and Keith Evans of Cordele; three grandchildren, Mandy Smith, Quint Smith and Massey Evans; and a sister, Sarah Y. Woodruff of Byromville.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Byromville Baptist Church.

Watson-Mathews Funeral Home of Montezuma has charge of arrangements.

Hazel Barefoot

SEVILLE — Funeral services for Hazel Powell Barefoot of Seville were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The Rev. Billy Forrest and the Rev. Tom Stone conducted the service.

Soft music was played prior to the service by Imogene Gilliam, pianist. Two selections of Mrs. Barefoot’s recordings, an instrumental of “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” and “Too Much To Gain To Lose” by the Revelations Quartet, were played. Mary Cone accompanied herself on the piano and sang “In His Arms.”

Pallbearers were Scott Harvey, Jeffrey Harvey, Justin Cason, Richard Bush, Lamar Cason and Mark Newell.

iIntermentfollowed in Seville Cemetery.

Willie G. Killen Sr.

VIENNA — Funeral services for Willie Gene “SonNapper/Mr. Clean” Killen Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5 in the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Vienna. Burial will follow in the Vienna City Cemetery. The Rev. J.C. Baker will officiate the services.

Mr. Killen died Friday, March 30, 2007, in Crisp Regional Hospital.

He was the son of the late Eugene and Mary Lou Napper and attended Dooly County Schools. He was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church and was retired from the pulpwood industry.

Survivors include two daughters, Laverno K. Cobb of Vienna, and Shirley (Frank) Lewis of Conyers; a son, Willie B. (Nadine) Harvey of Vienna; a daughter-in-law, Erma G. Killen of Decatur; a stepson-in-law, S.T. Lundy of Vienna; six sisters-in-law, Annie E. Ross, Susie Cromatie, Marion Bryant and Mary Jean (Rev. J.C.) Baker all of Vienna, Velma Bryant and Betty J. (James) Crittiden both of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, Lige (Mildred) Harvey of Detroit, Mich., and James Bryant of Baltimore, Md.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his aunt, Macrean Napper of Byromville; cousins, Eunice Young and Lucille Rogers both of Byromville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Rosie Lee Tolbert

CORDELE — Funeral services for Rosie Lee Tolbert will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7 in the sanctuary of New Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. The Rev. W.W. Wilson will officiate.

Ms. Tolbert died Wednesday, March 28, 2007.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Lonnie) Walker of Cordele; a son, Theodore Tolbert of Cordele; sisters, Theron Jones and Magdalene Ward of Cordele, Nettie Meriweather of Washington, Ga., and Jimmie Phene Sorrye of Jacksonville, Ga.; brothers, Freeman (Dorothy) Tolbert Jr. of Cordele; a niece and two nephews whom she reared, Minnie Fletcher and Billy Wayne (Rosa) Sanford of Cordele, and Matthew Sanford of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Lucille Tolbert, Willie Eva Tolbert and Kathleen Tolbert all of Cordele; a brother-in-law, James Beal Jr. of Cordele; six grandchildren, Demarcus (Tonia), Keyshira, Lareder (Curtis), Avis (Kerry), Michael and Lontarvious; and eight great-grandchildren, Diamond, Camille, Kaneshia, Latia, Markerious, Jarkerious, Anquniesha and Alexis.

VIENNA — Funeral services for Ernest Powe will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7 in the sanctuary of the Vienna Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Vienna City Cemetery. Bro. James L. Hughes will officiate the services.

Mr. Powe died Monday, April 2, 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Willie M. Haugabrook Powe of Vienna; children, Kelly Stubbs of Queens, N.Y., Michelle Powe of Brooklyn, N.Y., Kim (Vincent) Walker of New Rochelle, N.Y., Joy Powe of Alabama and Karl (Sonya) Jones of Atlanta; sisters, Dorothy Peller of New York, and Thelma Carter of Tampa, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Katrisse, Katrinna, Nia, Miles, Karl Jr., Kelvin, Tamara, Travis, Joilyn, Byrom, Erica and Dominique; sisters-in-law, Mattie Mays and April Haugabrook of Vienna, Harriett Haugabrook of Cordele, Mary Haugabrook and Lydia Haugabrook of Atlanta, and Bettye Balfour of Queens, N.Y.; and brothers-in-law, Nathaniel Haugabrook of Cordele, the Rev. ASHBURN — Funeral services for Donald Raymond West Sr., 76, will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 6 in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. West died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Valdosta following an unexpected illness.

Minnie Dell Draper
1919-2004
Athens, GA

Minnie Dell Draper, 85, died Thursday, July 15, 2004.

A native of Madison County, Ms Draper was the daughter of the late James Henry and Mozelle Strickland Draper. She was retired from Westclox/General Time.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Annie Mae Draper of Athens and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating.

The family will receive friends at Bernstein Funeral Home Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.
