CORDELE--Funeral services for Barbara Gail Curtis of Cordele will be held on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Bethel cemetery with Pastor Johnny Dean officiating. Ms. Curtis passed April 8.
Survivors include a son, Octavius L. Curtis of Atlanta, one grandchild; sisters Diana Curtis of Cordele, Pamela (Ashley) Sims-Clark of Cordele, Betty Weldon of Waycross, Barbara (Alton) Hartage of Cordele; brothers James (Melinda) Sims of Cordele, John (Trina) Sims of Powder Springs, Freddie (Vernell) Weldon of Cordele, Alvin (Gloria) Weldon of Cordele; an aunt, Annie Will Davis of Phoenix City, AL; an uncle Allen Sims of Columbus; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends to include a special niece, Cynthia Curtis of Cordele.

CORDELE - Funeral services for Arnold Lewis Oxyer of Cordele were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2007 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service with Rev. Ron Bailey officiating. Taped music of Michael Combs singing "Amazing Grace" and "You’re All Invited To My Mansion" were played.
The family exited the chapel as he sang "What A Day That Will Be." Pallbearers were Jody Scott, Nick Bailey, Allen Middleton, Shane Harp, Robert Hall, and Harold Lupo.
iIntermentfollowed at 2 p.m. at Andersonville National cemetery in Andersonville. The American flag was presented to Rozell Oxyer by Chris Scott.

Geneva M. Cash
1919-2004
Bogart, GA
Geneva Moore Cash, 85, of 2903 Savage Road died Friday, August 13, 2004.
A native of Young Harris, GA, Mrs. Cash was the daughter of the late Mark and Emma Hunter Moore. Her husband, Gordon Cash, preceded her in death, July 2, 2004. She retired from Sears as office manager and was a member of Statham Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Ruby Brown of Blairsville; two brothers: William Moore of Eatonton and Vaughn Moore of Blairsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004 in Bogart United Methodist cemetery with the Rev. Albert Askew, Rev. Bill Ruff, and Rev. Gordon Thornton officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 at Bernstein Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bogart United Methodist Church, 1201 Atlanta Hwy, Bogart, GA 30622.

Pauline P. Sapp
VIENNA — Funeral services for Pauline P. Sapp, 61, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 in Pleasant View Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele.
Mrs. Sapp died Sunday, April 8, 2007, in a local hospital.
Born July 21, 1945, in Nashville, Ga., she was the daughter of Tom Powell and Ida Mae Rowe Powell. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and was employed by the Dooly County School System. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace G. Sapp.
Survivors include her daughters, Melinda (Richard) Lunsford of LaGrange, Amanda Sapp of Vienna, and Paula (Rodney) Beach of Lilly; her sons, Jonathan Sapp of Vienna, and Malcolm E. Sapp of Atlanta; her mother, Ida Mae Powell of Tifton; a sister, Jean Davis of Lenox; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gussie Susan Whiddon
CORDELE — Graveside services for Gussie Susan Whiddon of Cordele will be held today, April 10 at 5 p.m. at Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele.
Mrs. Whiddon, 93, died at Crisp Regional Nursing & Rehab in Cordele Sunday, April 8, 2007.
She was born Sunday, June 15, 1913 in Turner County and was the daughter of the late Festus and Harriet Spillers Whiddon.
She is survived by two nieces and their husbands, Mary J. and Marvin Childers of Cordele, and Jan and Clark Pyles of Tucson, Ariz.; and three nephews and their wives, Bob and Betty Johnson of Cordele, Charlie and Yukie Hill of Lithia Springs, and Joey Gilbert of Tifton.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sallie Odessa Whiddon Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today prior to the service from 3:30 p.m. until time to depart for the cemetery.

Carolyn Varnadoe Pittman
RHINE — Funeral services for Carolyn Varnadoe Pittman, 75, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 25 in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Pittman died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Heartland Hospice in Macon.
She was the daughter of the late Kim and Lola White Varnadoe of Wilcox County and was married
to J.D. Pittman of Rhine. Mrs. Pittman retired from the Dodge County Board of Education and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, J.D. Pittman of Rhine; a son, Jim (DeNae) Pittman of Rhine; three daughters, Peggy (Roy) Williams and Jan (Robert) Lowe of Rhine, and Cindy Hilliard of Cochran; a sister, Judye (Jerry) Johnson of Cordele; a brother, Jerry (Catherine) Varnadoe of Thomson; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Gail Pittman, and a brother, Jimmy Varnadoe of Sumter, S.C.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Shivers died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Mary Carden Mitchell
CORDELE — Funeral services for Mary Carden Mitchell were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home of Cordele. Burial followed in Sunnyside Cemetery. The Rev. Gill Tripp officiated the services, and Mrs. Mitchell’s nephew, Richard Briggs, gave the eulogy.
Arlene Dowdy, pianist, played both before and after the service. She also accompanied Jade Summers as she sang “Amazing Grace.”
Pallbearers were Sammy Carden, Terry Carden, Carden Summers, Colon Williams, Robert Briggs and Richard Briggs.

Mary Louise Cameron
1910-2004
Athens, Ga.
Mary Louise Cameron, 93, of Vine Circle. passed away on July 31, 2004.
A native of Spartanburg Co., SC., Ms. Cameron was the daughter of the late John Henry and Maude Turner Cameron. Ms. Cameron was a retired nurse and for many years worked at St. Mary’s Hospital. After her retirement she became an active volunteer with the Athens Housing Authority, and the Athens Council on Ageing. She was also a member of the Silver Haired Legislation from Clarke County. Ms. Cameron was honored to be awarded the nurse of the year award for the State of Georgia and also received several other awards for her community service. She also worked at Grandview Nursing Home after retirement and was a member of the Oconee Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a special friend, Geraldine Clarke of Athens; nieces and nephews Janice and Jack Hodge and Cherry and T.L. Case both of Spartanburg; SC; Gloria Ferebee, Sarasota, FL; Brenda and Melvin Smathers, Startex, SC and Terry Moss, Inman SC.
Funeral services will be held 2PM Sunday at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Case, Rev. Luther Fouche and Rev. Lisa Caine will officiate. iIntermentwill follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Bernstein from 1-2PM Sunday and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

COLUMBUS - The funeral service for Mrs. Bettye Irene Royal Burton of 3947 Woodford Drive, Columbus, will be Tuesday at 1p.m. in the sanctuary of the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Vienna with Reverend William Felton officiating and Reverend Leonard Boston delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow at Vienna City cemetery in Vienna.
Mrs. Burton died Thursday, April 19 at The Hospice House in Columbus, Georgia.
She is survived by a son, Mr. Eddie C. Burton, Jr. and his wife, Mrs. Marcia Burton of Columbus, Ga.; a grandson, Mr. Trevon Burton of Columbus, Ga.; two step-grandchildren, Mr. Jamal Dunn and Ms. Donielle Dunn, both of Columbus, Ga.; a brother, Mr. Tommie C. Royal of Los Angeles, Ca.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Georgia Mae Almond of Vienna, Ga.; two aunts, Mrs. Mae Willie Mayise of Cordele, Ga. and Mrs. Beulah Thompson of Valdosta, Ga.; a niece, Mrs. Regina Knox of Columbus, Ga.; two cousins, Mrs. Rosie Mae Hubbert of Vienna, Ga. and Mrs. Ruthie Lewis of Macon, Ga.; a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, and many sorrowing friends.

Donald Earl Fountain, Jr.
Funeral services for Donald Earl Fountain, Jr. will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. iIntermentwill follow at Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele.
Mr. Fountain died April 18, 2007 at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. He was a native of Dooly County and the son of the late Donald Earl, Sr. and Lola Kennedy Fountain. Mr. Fountain was a retired salesman.
He is survived by two daughters, Maribeth Atherton and her husband, David and PaigeFountain, all of Albany; a sister, Billie Crumley of Statesboro; and three grandchildren, Christopher Atherton, Matthew Atherton, and Anna Paige Atherton, all of Albany. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, April 20, 2007 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
