Gina Marie Evans Berry
Services for Gina Marie Evans Berry of Eastover, S.C. were held at a private ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 in Greenlawn Funeral Home.
The Rev. Robert G. Ward Sr. officiated.
Berry, 24 died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005. She was the daughter of Terry Lee Evans and Peggy Evans and Marie John Evans and was married to Sean C. Berry of Eastover, S.C.
She was a native of Telfair County and was a homemaker. She was a member of East Columbia Pentecostal Holiness Church. She enjoyed decorating and was crafty with her hands. She was a quiet, gentle soul, who was soft spoken.
In addition to her husband and parents, survivors include her daughter, Samantha; sons, Joseph and Dylan; sisters, Rena Goucher and Janet Barlow; grandmother, Mae Johns; and nieces and nephews.
Greenlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Eastover, S.C. was in charge of arrangements.
W.R. Bass Sr.
Services for W.R. Bass Sr. of Hazlehurst were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Hazlehurst Church of God on Cromartie Street with interment in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery.
The Rev. Ricky Baldwin and the Rev. Virginia Herrington officiated.
Bass, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005 at his residence. He was the son of the late George W. and Claude Bass and was married to Eucu Lee Bass of Hazlehurst.
He was a native of Telfair County but had lived most of his life in Jeff Davis.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Diane Leggett, Martha Ann Feller and Marie Davis, all of Hazlehurst and Connie Dixon of Charleston, S.C.; son, Randy Bass of Hazlehurst; sisters, Carra Mae Blanton of Hazlehurst and Annie Pearl Corbin of Glennville; brother, Tom Bass of High Falls; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Miles Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.
Billie Harrelson Williams Dean
Graveside services for Billie Harrelson Williams Dean of McRae will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 at Bonaventure Cemetery in the Greenwitch section in Savannah.
The Rev. Julian Tucker will officiate.
Dean, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005. She was the daughter of the late W.B. Harrelson and Lula Mae Thomas and was the widow of Henry Dean.
She was a native of Wheeler County and was a member of Hardeeville United Methodist Church for over 30 years. She was a member of the Garden Club of Savannah, Savannah Area Council of Gardens Club, Azalea Garden Club of Savannah. A member of Garden Club of Georgia, dedicated to Botanical Gardens of Savannah, flower show judge and active with the girl scouts.
Survivors include her brother, Lanier Harrelson of Helena; sister, Louise Hunter of McRae; several nieces and nephews.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena is in charge of arrangements.
Pauline Spell Branch Hayes
Services for Pauline Spell Branch Hayes of Hazlehurst were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Big Oaks Church of God in Appling County with interment in the Oak View Cemetery in Jeff Davis.
The Rev. Virginia Herrington officiated.
Hayes, 67, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Odis Spell and Myrtice Sapp Spell and was the widow of Verlon Branch. She was married to Braswell Hayes of Hazlehurst.
She was a native of Coffee County but had lived in Jeff Davis County all of her life. She was a C.N.A. at Brian Center Nursing Care and was a member of Big Oaks Church of God in Appling County.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her sons, Randall Verlon Branch of Hazlehurst and Ronnie H. Branch of Graham; sister, Olene Beecher of Hazlehurst; brother, Howard Odis Spell of Baxley; and seven grandchildren.
Miles Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.
Edwin Matthew ‘Math’ Walker
Services for Edwin Matthew “Math” Walker of Milan were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 at Sand Grove Baptist Church in Milan with interment in the Sand Grove Cemetery.
The Rev. Donald Whitman and the Rev. Emory Corbett officiated.
Walker, 48, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2004 at his residence. He was the son of Nora Mathews Walker and the late Willie Mac Walker and was married to Brenda Spires Walker.
He was a native of Telfair County, a member of Sand Grove Baptist Church and was a hog farmer.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include his daughter, Carla Walker; son, Eddie Walker; sisters, Kay W. Bowman and Dale Walker.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
Solomon Arnold
Services for Solomon Arnold of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at Turner Chapel A.M.E. Church of Helena with interment at the Horne Mission C.M.E. Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Troy L. Singleton and the Rev. W.C. Roberson officiated.
Arnold, 84, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Dublin. He was the son of the late Eddie and Cora Arnold and was the widower of Astoria Ryals Arnold.
He was a native of Crisp County. At an early age he joined the Turner Chapel A.M.E. Church. He was one of the founders of Turner Chapel serving as the Sunday school superintendent, Steward Pro-tem, trustee, and president of the choir.
He received his education from the Hoseley Institute in Cordele and later joined the military where he served in World War II. He was a singer with the group called the Helena Male Chorus.
Survivors include his son, James Arnold of McRae; three grandchildren, James Arnold Jr. of McRae, Yolanda Arnold of Warner Robins and Lamont Arnold of Atlanta; and three great-grandchildren.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Services for David Clarence “Dave” Brown of Rhine were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7 in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel in Eastman with interment in the Bay Springs Cemetery.
The Rev. Bill Jones officiated.
Brown, 89, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005. He was the son of the late Henry Brown and Mertie Buchan Brown and widower of Nora Clark Brown.
He was a native of Dodge County and was a retired Rhine police officer.
Survivors include his son, David M. “Buster” Brown; daughters, Sheila Brown, Mary Hollie, Lennie Landry, Sharon Lowery, Laura McClusky, and Carolyn Spires; sister, Thelma Conley; brother, Jim Brown; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Billy Franklin Carter
Services for Billy Franklin Carter of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Alamo City Cemetery.
The Rev. W.R. Connell officiated.
Carter, 66, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at the Telfair Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late George Franklin Carter and Ozema Jane Dunn. He was married to Jackie Carter of McRae. He was a native of Monroe County, Miss.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Mike Carter, Lisa Carter and Scott Carter, all of McRae, Janice Patrick of Jacksonville, Brent Carter of Carrolton, Debbie Wright of Rhine, and Julie Linderman of Helena; brothers, Lloyd Carter of Alberdeen, Miss. and Johnny Carter of Lawrenceville; sisters, Catherine White of Dublin, Elizabeth Kintchens of Brooksville, Fla., Aleene Aldridge and Edith Alred of Alberdeen, Miss.; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
