ASHBURN — Funeral services for Tiny C. Manus, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20 in Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Manus died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in Tift Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mary Carden Mitchell
CORDELE — Funeral services will be held Friday, April 20 at 2 p.m. for Mary Carden Mitchell, 82, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchell died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at her residence.
She was a retired civil servant from Ft. McPherson and a member of Midway United Methodist Church. She was born in Crisp County on Thursday, Feb. 26, 1925, to the late Lula Musselwhite Carden and James Martin Carden. She was the widow of William A. Mitchell. Preceding her in death are her siblings, Van R. Carden, Sam T. Carden, Pansy C. Briggs and Violet C. Owen.
Survivors include her brothers, Tom Carden and Max Carden both of Cordele; sisters, Sarah C. Summers and Jimmie Ruth C. Williams both of Cordele; and nephews and nieces, Terry Carden of Eufaula, Ala., Sammy Carden of Kingston, Carden Summers, Colin Williams and Mark Carden all of Cordele, Robert Briggs of Stockbridge, Richard Briggs of Roswell, Vaneesa Williams Little of Atlanta, Kimmie Carden and Janann Carden Dunnavant both of Cordele; and several great-nephews and great-nieces survive.
The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.

ASHBURN — Funeral services for Jamie Black, 35, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 31 in Perry Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Black died Monday, May 28, 2007 at his residence following a sudden illness.
Sharon Denise LaGrier
NEW JERSEY — Funeral services for Sharon Denise LaGrier, 37, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in New Traveler’s Home Baptist Church in Abbeville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Gary Lucas will officiate the services, directed by Ferguson Brothers Funeral Home of Rochelle.
Ms. LaGrier died Saturday, May 26, 2007 in Bethesda Hospital in Newark, N.J.
Addie Ruth King
PINEVIEW — Funeral services for Addie Ruth King, 67, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Myriax Chapel CME Church in Pineview. Burial will follow in Brown Hill cemetery in Abbeville. The Revs. Marshel Howard and Hiran McBurrows will officiate the services, directed by Ferguson Brothers Funeral Home of Rochelle.
Ms. King died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 in Coliseum Medical Center in Macon.
Contrello D. Smith
CORDELE — Funeral services for Contrello D. Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Crisp County Middle School Auditorium. Burial will follow in the Vienna City Cemetery. The Rev. Antoine Yowe will officiate the services.
Mr. Smith died Sunday, May 27, 2007.
Survivors include his mother, Shonda G. Smith of Cordele; sisters, Alexis Smith of Cordele, and Regina King of Detroit, Mich.; brothers, Rashad Williams of Detroit, Mich., and Carrado Woodson of Cordele; grandparents, Martiel Williams and Andrew (Rose) Brown of Cordele, Bernice (Willie) Lunday and the Rev. Elizabeth S. ‘Lib’ Bullington
CORDELE — Funeral services for Elizabeth S. “Lib” Bullington, 83, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Mrs. Bullington died at her residence early Friday morning, June 1, 2007.
A native of Sampson County, N.C., she was born on Thursday, Jan. 10, 1924 to the late Evander Straughn and the late BeEttie Quinn Straughn. The widow of Thomas R. “Tommy” Bullington, Mrs. Bullington was a homemaker, cosmetologist and member of the Wenona United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald (Cassandra) Bullington and John T. (Jean) Bullington all of Cordele; her daughter, Jackie Moncrief of Cordele; her brothers, Howard Straughn of Wilmington, N.C., Perry Straughn of Sawsboro, N.C., and Harry Straughn of Warsaw, N.C.; her sisters, Hattie Lamb of Concord, N.C., and Betty Cain of Rosebury, N.C.; ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mary R. Baker
ROCHELLE — Funeral services for Mary R. Baker, 59, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel of Frazier and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Talmadge Wilcox officiated. Burial followed in Morningside Cemetery.
Miss Baker died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at her residence.
Born Nov. 4, 1947 in Turner County, she was the daughter of Arthur Baker and the late Virginia Louise Calhoun Baker. She had lived in Wilcox County all her life and was an employee at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Cordele. She was of the Baptist faith and was a very loving and giving sister.
Survivors include her father, Arthur Baker of Rochelle; brothers, Nelton Ray Baker, Elvin A. Baker and Michael E. Baker all of Rochelle, Aldo H. Baker of Cordele, Arthur Lee Baker of Vienna, and Donnie G. Baker of Pitts; sisters, Merilyn NeSmith of Dublin, Myra McCranie of Bonaire, Nettie Mae Baker, Cynthia M. Adkins and Nellie Faye Baker all of Rochelle; and a host of nieces and nephews.

CORDELE — Funeral services for Mamie A. Jacobs, 87, of Vienna were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services with the Rev. Don Howell officiating.
Marcene Freeman, pianist, played soft music for the service and accompanied the Rev. Royce Freeman and herself as they sang “One Day At A Time” and “I Won’t Have To Worry Any More.”
Pallbearers were Jeff Jacobs, Rodney Jacobs, Brandon Jacobs, Howard Jacobs, Wendell Hayslip and Gary Lang.

Martha Faye Wade
CORDELE — Funeral services for Martha Faye Wade of Cordele were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2007 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service with the Rev. Lee Breedlove officiating. CD’s of “He Pilots My Ship” and “Mama” were played.
Pallbearers were Jim Vick, Jim Dale, Mike Harris, Sam Irwin, Thomas Carrol and David Gilliam.
The committal service was in Zion Hope cemetery in Crisp County.

Elizabeth S. ‘Lib’ Bullington
CORDELE — Funeral services for Elizabeth S. “Lib” Bullington were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2007 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. The Revs. Billy Forrest and Phil Streetman officiated the services. Burial followed in Sunnyside cemetery with the Rev. Gill Tripp officiating.
Marcene Freeman, pianist, played both before and after the service. She also accompanied the Rev. Royce Freeman and herself as they sang “What Will I Leave Behind?” and “Beulah Land.” The service opened with the playing of “Can I Pray For You” and closed with the playing of “Wind Beneath My Wings.”
Pallbearers were Darryl Lewis, James Bullington, Frank Bullington, Koby Worley, Ed Herrington and Ed Hornyak.
Honorary pallbearers were Marshall Brown, Earlie Posey, Homer Jackson, Malloy Culpepper, James Gibbs, Willie Pheil, Wesley Mathis, L.C. Little, Tommy Thompson, Charles Supers and Wallace Mathis.

Sammy Floyd Clements
CORDELE — Graveside services for Sammy Floyd Clements, 83, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Cedar Creek Cemetery. Dr. John Smith conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
Kenny Sheffield sang “Wish You Were Here.” The United States flag was presented to Mr. Clements’ daughter, Shirley Moore.
Georgia Hyde
CORDELE — A memorial service for Georgia Hyde, 91, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Cordele First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Warren Williams and Lee Guerry will officiate the service.
Mrs. Hyde died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at her residence.
She was born March 28, 1916 in Hazard, Ky., the daughter of the late Macager and Orlena Morgan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Poley Hyde.
Mrs. Hyde operated a poultry house in Ohio, worked at Roobin’s of Cordele, and retired from Southern Bell Telehone Co. in Cordele.
An avid gardener, she loved to do needlework and God’s work through the church. She was a member of Cordele First United Methodist Church and the Harris Starr and Fellowship Sunday School Classes.
Survivors include a sister, Emma Leibforth of Hamilton, Ohio; a brother, Carter “Bud” Morgan of Cordele; a daughter and her husband, Sandra and Jack Windham; a son and his wife, Douglass and Carol Hyde; grandchildren and their spouses, Harry Knox, Jack Jr. and Caron Windham, Jonathan Windham, Susannah and John Herzog, Chris and Dee Hyde, and Brian and Della Hyde; and great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Luke and Molly Herzog, Kayla Windham, Matthew and Joshua Windham, Whitney, Ben, Morgan and Lindee Ann Hyde.
The family requests that memorials may be made to Cordele First United Methodist Church, 302 E. 12th Ave., Cordele, GA 31015.
They will receive friends at the church Thursday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.

D Quillian Harris Jr.
MCRAE — D Quillian Harris Jr., 87, died Thursday, June 7, 2007.
He was born in Charlotte, N.C. on April 24, 1920, the son of the late D Quillian Harris Sr. and Esther Johnson Harris of Pitts.
DQ. graduated from Pitts High School in 1937, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and in 1942 from the University of Georgia. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and joined the U.S. Marine Corp before serving in the United States Coast Guard, 1942-1945.
DQ. moved to McRae in 1946 and served as Telfair County’s Agricultural Extension Agent from 1945 until 1954 when he accepted a position in marketing with Coker’s Pedigreed Seed Company in Hartsville, S.C. He gained promotion to regional sales manager and agronomist of the Southeastern U.S., working principally with colleges and universities. He retired in 1983.
DQ. was past director and past president of the Georgia Seedman’s Association and was awarded Lifetime Honorable Membership to the Georgia Seedman’s Association in 1986. He served as executive director of the Telfair County Chamber of Commerce from 1989-1994 and was named Telfair County Citizen of the Year in 1994.
He was a member of McRae United Methodist Church where he was on Administrative Board and taught Sunday School for many years. He was a member of the McRae Lions Club and was a Mason.
DQ. is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Eunice Calhoun Harris, formerly of Baxley; three sons, Dr. D Quillian (Duke) Harris III (Jennifer) of Moultrie, Calhoun Harris (Theresa) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dr. W. Lester Harris (Renee) of St. Mary’s; one daughter, Dorothy Hightower (John) of Roswell; five granddaughters and two grandsons.
The funeral service will be today at 3 p.m. at McRae United Methodist Church with the Revs. David Blalock, Bobby Dixon and Gordon B. Dukes Jr., officiating. iIntermentwill follow at the family lot at Pitts Cemetery, Pitts.
