CORDELE — Funeral services for Ashley LaShon Mason, 33, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of Beulahland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel cemetery with her uncle, the Rev. Jimmie Felton officiating.
Miss Mason died Saturday, July 14, 2007.

CORDELE — Funeral services for Ruby Johnson Worley were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2007 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services with the Revs. Sonny Dorminey and Bobby Sheffield officiating. Burial followed in Oklahoma Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Buford Tanner officiating.
Alex Clements, pianist, played soft music and accompanied himself as he sang “I’ll Fly Away.” Janice Pennington, accompanied by Marsha Garrett, sang “How Great Thou Art.”
Pallbearers were Carlos Calhoun, Tommy Stephens, Franklin Grimes, Lavaughn Cook, John B. Gordon and H.L. Johnson.

Dorothy Mae Burrell, 81, of Amberly Drive, died on Sunday, May 1, 2005.
A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Burrell was the daughter of the late Sam and Exie Strickland Bowles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur (Crip) Burrell and one sister, Mary Colley of Hull. Mrs. Burrell was retired from Chicopee Manufacturing and a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-laws, Mary and Charles Mauldin of Athens, Robbie and Tony Hewell of Hull; grandchildren, Rhonda and Doug Barber, Tonya and Guy Sosby, Kimberly Huff, Josh Milner, and Justin Milner; great grandchildren, Brandon Barber, Dylan Barber, Desteny Huff, Joy Greene and C.J. Huff.
Funeral Services will be held 2 pm Wednesday May 4 in the Chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Elmer Butler officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Robert J. Selby Sr.
JASPER — A memorial service for Robert J. Selby Sr., 72, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Warwick United Methodist Church with Pastor Dorsia Atkinson Jr. and Pastor Michael McAfee officiating.
Mr. Selby died Friday, July 13, 2007 in Jasper with his family by his side after a brief battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 11, 1934 in Clarksdale, Miss., he was the son of the late Donald C. Selby Sr. and Irene James Selby. A long-time resident of Marietta, he moved to Cordele earlier this year. He retired in 1999 after careers with the Chrysler Corporation and Superior Insurance Company. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Diane Selby of Cordele; a brother, Donald C. Selby Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind.; his children, Melinda Evans of Jasper and Robert J. Selby Jr. of Denver, Colo.; his grandchildren, Leigh Anne Ramsey and Amanda Jones of Kennesaw, and Heather and James Selby of Lawton, Okla.; and his great-grandchildren, Makayla McGhee of Lawton, Okla., and Avery Ramsey of Kennesaw.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Mr. Selby’s name to the Warwick United Methodist Church.

Mr. Gamble died Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Crisp Regional Hospital.

Chief Henry Edward Hendrix USN (Ret) died Friday, May 20, 2005. A native of Oglethorpe County. Mr Hendrix was the son of the late Carl W. and Annie Mae Leachman Hendrix. He was preceded in death by two brothers Alvin Hendrix and Benjamin Hendrix; and two sisters Sylvia Seagraves and Drita Hendrix. Mr. Hendrix retired from the U.S. Navy and later retired from Athens Regional Medical Center. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Smith Hendrix; son, Raymond Edward Butler of Comer; daughter and son in law Anita and George Therriault of Athens; two brothers, Carl W. Hendrix of Chesapeake, VA and Bobby James Hendrix of Athens; and three grandchildren, Karen Singleton of Cumming, Susan Pannell of Athens, Jason Butler of Destin, FL, two great grandchildren Connor Pannell and Collin Pannell, both of Athens.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2 pm at Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Crist Camden and Rev. Larry Davison officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 pm to 8 pm at Bernstein Funeral Home.

David Allen Wright
VIENNA — Graveside services for David Allen Wright, 53, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Cordele.
Mr. Wright died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 at his residence.
Born March 25, 1953 in Wayne County, Mich., he was the son of the late James Clinton and Joyce Delean Forkum Wright. A truck driver, Mr. Wright was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by a brother and his wife, Clinton Brad and Sharon Wright of Vienna; a step-brother and his wife, Robert Kelly and Judy Wallace of West Bloomfield, Mich.; two step-sisters and their husbands, Sandra Sue and Phillip Keelin of Davison, Mich., and Cheryle Kay and Richard Davis of Auburn Hills, Mich.; nephews, James Bradley Wright and his wife Julie, Jerry Bryant Musselwhite and Ben Musselwhite, all of Vienna and Brandon Wright and Travis Wright, both of Sparta, Tenn.; a great-niece, Lanie Nicole Wright of Vienna; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Wright and his step-mother, Noble Wright.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 10 a.m. until time to depart the for the cemetery.

Mr. Bullard died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007.

Cordele — Funeral services were held for Claude Phillips at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Rev. Tony Register and Rev. Larry Burgess officiated the services. Burial followed in Sunnyside Cemetery.
The services began with Mary Hamilton playing of "It Is Well With My Soul" and ended with her playing "Till the Storm Passes By" on the piano. Kenny Sheffield sang "Going Home."
Pallbearers were: J. P. Smith, Chris Smith, Wesley Mathis, Jimmy Phillips, Earl Hamilton and J. O. Cross.

William Quincy Culpepper
CORDELE — Graveside funeral services for William Quincy Culpepper, 83, a proud resident of Atlanta, formerly of Cordele, will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery.
He was born in Cordele May 25, 1924. He was the son of Mamie Hill and William Chadwell Culpepper. Quincy is survived his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Ann Starr Culpepper; a daughter, Carol and husband John Reeves of Spartanburg, SC; a daughter, Marcia Lunch of Suffolk, VA; a son, Mike and wife Susan Culpepper of Dallas, GA; and grandchildren John Reeves III, Andrea Vandervort, Anna Jones, Agatha Lynch, Jessica Culpepper, and Will Culpepper.
Quincy graduated from the University of Georgia School of Business in 1950 and has been a spirited Bulldog fan ever since, encouraging family and friends in support of his UGA passion. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. His military experience was with the U.S. Naval Air Corp during WWII. Quincy enjoyed 36 years of federal service including serving as Regional Director of Business Affairs for the General Services Administration. He was instrumental in establishing the Atlanta Federal Information Center in 1966. He was a long-time member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and was active in the Faith Sunday School class.
Quincy was loved and respected by all of his family. All who knew him regarded him as an outstanding gentleman in the finest southern tradition.

1911-2004
James Aubrey “Smitty” Smith, 92, of 3736 Atlanta Hwy died Thursday, May 13, 2004.
A native of Grenada, Mississippi, Mr. Smith was the son of the late James Autrey and Minnie Victoria Hughes Smith. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Oneita Douglas Smith in 1960, and by his second wife, Rosslyn Braden Smith, in 1996. He retired after 35 years as an audio-visual specialist with the Georgia Extension Service. A number of his films have been seen around the world and are housed in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Herb Bonner Hunt Club and the Athens First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Barbara Smith, Jr. of Burnsville, NC; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
