Edwin Davis Lee

ARABI — Funeral services for Edwin Davis Lee of Arabi will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Arabi Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Arabi cemetery in Crisp County.

Mr. Lee, 87, died at his residence Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007.

He was a native of Turner County and the son of the late Jesse Washington and Mary Jo Davis Lee. Mr. Lee was a retired farmer and a member and Deacon of Arabi Baptist Church. A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he had served in the Naval Landing Force and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Good Conduct medals.

Mr. Lee is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Lee of Arabi; his children and their spouses, Connie and Jerry Carney, Mike and Cindy Lee, Pat and Wendell Story and Pam and David Dollar, all of Cordele; five grandchildren, Jennifer Collman and her husband, Jonathan, Christopher Lee Carney, Matthew Story and his wife, Joellyn, Abby Story, Michael H. Lee and his wife, Beth, and Sunny Lee; two great-grandchildren, Hollis Collman and Everett Collman; and three brothers, Billy Lee of Arabi, J.R. “Doc” Lee of Jakin and Wynton Lee of Sycamore.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 4-6 p.m.

They request that any memorials be made to Arabi Baptist Church, 3930 First Ave., Arabi, GA 31712.

Ben F. Sumner Sr.

CORDELE – Ben F. Sumner Sr., 79, died in Crisp Regional Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service starting at 6 p.m.

Mr. Sumner, a native of Screven County was born on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 1928, to the late Samuel Sumner and the late Kate Kirkland. He was the former owner of Cordele Motor Speedway.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah C. Sumner of Cordele; three sons, John B. Sumner of Canton, Ben F. Sumner Jr. of Sycamore and Scott L. Sumner of Cordele; and several grandchildren.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home is entrusted with these arrangements.

Gary Gerard Braziel

PITTS — Funeral services for Gary Gerard Braziel of Pitts will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Pitts Church of God in Pitts with interment to follow in Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele.

Mr. Braziel, 43, died at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007.

Born in Wilcox County, he was the son of Ken and Janette Barker Braziel. Mr. Braziel was a radiologist and a member of the Pitts Church of God.

He is survived by his children, Sarah Elizabeth Braziel, Kristina Marie Braziel and Gavin Gerard Braziel, all of Pitts; his parents, Ken and Janette Braziel of Pitts, a brother, Jeff Braziel of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister and her husband, Michelle and Eric West of Pitts; the mother of his children, Brandy Smith of Leesburg; a niece, Michaela West; and three nephews, Zachery West, Landon West and Drew Braziel.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Ken Braziel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

Evelyn Jones Mercer

WAYCROSS — Funeral services for Evelyn Jones Mercer will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery in Ashburn. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mercer died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007 in Baptist Village in Waycross.

Christopher Jones

Christopher Jones, 20, of Vienna died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007 at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Alvie Coes Funeral Home of Unadilla. The family may be contacted at 704 Grant St., Vienna.

Thelma J. Faircloth

CORDELE — Graveside services for Thelma J. Faircloth of Cordele will be held at 2 p.m. today at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Mrs. Faircloth, 71, died at her residence Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007.

Born in Turner County, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Lillie Mae McLemore Lewis. Mrs. Faircloth was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Faircloth Sr. of Cordele; her children and their spouses, Robin and James Barry, Mike and Angie Wilkerson and Angie and Joe Rainey, all of Cordele, Johnny Jr. and Laurie Faircloth of Americus, and Shanna and Stephen Thombley of Savannah; two brothers, Thomas Lewis Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Rebecca and James Hiram Lewis and his wife, Betty of Ashburn; a sister, Annette Harrell and her husband, Lewis of Rebecca; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Wilkerson.

Gary Gerard Braziel

PITTS — Funeral services for Gary Gerard Braziel were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 in the Pitts Church of God with the Revs. Britt Peavy and Brett Jarriel conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Powell, pianist, played soft music and accompanied herself as she sang “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You.” Britt Peavy, Brett Jarriel, Doug Powell and Tim Conner sang “Grace Alone.” The service was closed with “Come To Jesus.”

Pallbearers were Wes Bennett, Josh Barfield, Keith McDuffie, Andy Powell, Ubaldo Gonzalez and Tim Conner.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Quinton Peavy, Curtis McDuffie, Ken Arant, Derrell Rutherford, Roy Bohannon, Bobby Bishop, Charles Fisher, Sid Ezell, Dr. Timothy Trulock, Harrison Bullock, Lamar Whitley, Ronnie Culpepper, Rick Freil, Leon Arant, Mel Powell, Glenn Ledford, Jerry Phillips, Wayne Nutt, Ken Clark, Stacy Bloodsworth and George Conner.

The committal was in Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele with the Rev. Ken Arant officiating.

George L. Bentham

WARWICK — Funeral services for George L. Bentham of Warwick were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service with the Rev. James Wedges officiating.

Jane Schum, pianist, played soft music before and after the service. The service was opened with Massey McKinley singing “I Can Only Imagine.” Richard Bolin, accompanied by Ms. Schum, sang “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” The service was closed as he sang “America The Beautiful.”

The interment, with full military honors, was in Andersonville National cemetery in Andersonville.

Alleyne Tully Wommack

MADISON — Alleyne Tully Wommack, 67, died Sept. 28, 2007 at her home in Madison.

Mrs. Wommack was born June 18, 1940 in Utica, N.Y. to Oscar Stratton Tully and Beatrice Hinkson Tully. On Aug. 21, 1965 she married Thomas Wilson Wommack.

Mrs. Wommack was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Madison and the Madison Writer’s Guild. She was director of Encouraging Word Ministries and was a published author.

She has published two devotional books, Portions from Romans Eight and Portions from Phillipians. She most recently wrote LifeLines for Those Living with Cancer.

Alleyne belived her call was to be an encourager to others in their faith walk. Her heart was to teach people the love of God that they would know who they are in God and be empowered to live a victorious life. Alleyne has been transplanted into the ultimate victory and leaves us with a legacy of God’s light and love.

Mrs. Wommack is survived by her husband of 42 years, Tom Wommack and their children, Shawn Wommack, Brian Wommack, Erin Moser, Patrick Wommack and Kathleen Bryant. Other survivors include ten grandchildren, Hope Womack, Chris Scott, Anna Beth Wommack, Madison Bryant, Michala Bryant, Chris Wommack, Josh Wommack, Justin Wommack, Josie Wommack and Shawn Allen Wommack and one great-grandchild, Caleb Scott.

The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. in A.E. Carter Funeral Home in Madison. The funeral service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in Madison First United Methodist Church. iIntermentwill follow at the Madison Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Madison/Morgan Community Theater, the Building Fund of Madison First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Ben Thomas ‘Bennie’ King

PITTS — Funeral services for Ben Thomas “Bennie” King, 77, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Pitts Baptist Church. The Revs. Jimmy Daniels and Clint Sullens will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pitts Cemetery.

Mr. King died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007 in Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.

Born Oct. 23, 1929 in Wilcox County, he was the son of the late William Allen King and Myrtle Cook King. He was an active member of the Republican Party for many years and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired Civil Service employee at the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base and was preceded in death by two sisters, Willene Bethea and Ruth Herring.

Survivors include two brothers, Johnny (Nancy) King of Rochelle, and Wilton (June) King of Ashburn; a sister, Sammie (Donald) McLemore of Rochelle; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Frazier & Son Funeral Home in Rochelle.

The family may be contacted at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Donald McLemore, 700 Fifth Ave., Rochelle.

Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena and Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle have charge of the arrangements.

Jerry C. Smith

ABBEVILLE — Funeral services for Jerry C. Smith, 57, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Abbeville First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Morningside cemetery in Rochelle. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007 at his residence.

Walter H. Harden

CORDELE — Graveside memorial services for Walter H. Harden, 74, of Pitts will be held Friday at 3 p.m. He passed away Monday. Rev. Talmadge Wilcox will officiate. iIntermentwill be in the Morningside Cemetery. Frazier & Son Funeral Home in Rochelle has charge of arrangements.

Vera T. Dunagan

ABBEVILLE — Graveside services for Vera T. Dunagan, 93, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cannonville cemetery with the Rev. J.T. Smith officiating.

Mrs. Dunagan died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 in Pinewood Manor Nursing & Retirement Villa.

Born Feb. 7, 1914 in Wilcox County, she was the daughter of the late Hoyt Turk and Bertie Hood Turk. She was a lifelong resident of Wilcox County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Cannonville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Edker Dunagan Sr.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Dunagan of Hawkinsville and Edker Dunagan Jr. of Abbeville; her daughters, Geraldine Meredith of Pineview, Elizabeth Phillips of Pitts and Clara Lanier of Vienna; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family may be contacted at the home of Jackie and Elizabeth Phillips, 604 Clements Road, Pitts.

Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle has charge of the arrangements.
