Vena A. Sheffield
Services for Vena A. Sheffield of Chauncey were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 in Southerland Funeral Chapel in Eastman with interment in Sweet Home Cemetery.
The Rev. Bill Jones officiated.
Sheffield, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Henry Grady Allen and Mary Shadix Allen and widow of John J. Sheffield. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Spears.
She was a native of Alabama, a homemaker and a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Wrye of Macon, Frances Quarles of Hot Springs, Ark., and Jean Brown of McRae; sons, Ray Sheffield of Chauncey, Ralph Sheffield of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Herman Sheffield of Eastman and Randy Sheffield of Orange Park, Fla.; sisters, Dollie Dixon, Myrtle Allen, Vestula Maddox and Helen Smith; brother, Johnnie Allen; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
Maxie L. Knight
Services for Maxie L. Knight of Americus were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2 at Blockhouse Baptist Church in Jacksonville with interment in the church cemetery.
Dr. Lamon Moates officiated.
Knight, 88, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004. She was the daughter of the late George Harris Hart and Maxie Lee Hampton Hart and was the widow of James Eschol Knight.
She was a native of Telfair County and had lived in Americus since May of 1985 and had attended the First Baptist Church of Americus during that time. She was a homemaker and was a member of Blockhouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Estelle Yawn and Myrt Radney, both of Americus, and Louise Penn of Greenville, S.C., Esther Harrell of Warner Robins, and Doshia Scarbrough of Perry; sons, Benjamin H. Knight Sr. of Vandiver, Ala. and Julian E. Knight of Reynolds; sisters, Mae Atkinson of Randburne, Ala., Lena Ferrell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ruth Travasoss of McRae; brothers, Homer Hart of Lake Butler, Fla., and Ashley T. Hart of Ashburn; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Blockhouse Baptist Church, c/o June Steverson, Rt. 1, Box 27, Jacksonville, Ga. 31544.

Roosevelt McMillian
Services for Roosevelt McMillian of Helena were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Helena with interment in the Helena Cemetery.
The Rev. E. Neal Dixon officiated.
McMillian, 44, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004. He was the son of the late Juanita Wallace McMillian and was a native of Telfair County.
Survivors include his sisters, Sylvia Felton of McRae, Rose McMillian of Dublin and Annie L. Hamilton of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers, Morris McMillian and Willie McMillian, both of Helena, John F. Wallace of Glennville and Michael L. McMillian of Florence, Ariz. and one godson.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.
Bessie Hobby ‘Bess’ Sundberg
Services for Bessie Hobby “Bess” Sundberg of Vidalia were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3 in the chapel of Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home with interment in the Palmetto Cemetery.
The Rev. Johnny Candill officiated.
Sundberg, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Leona and Weston Hobby and was the widow of Robert Alfred Sundberg.
She was a native and lived most of her life in Brunswick, but was formerly residing in Vidalia. She retired in 1998 from Kmart after 15 years of service. She was a former member of Glyndale Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Steverson of Helena, Myra Ann Shephard of Vidalia and Sherie Lee Sundberg of Atlanta; sons, Weston Lee Shephard of Hilliard, Fla., and Michael Irvin Shephard of Vidalia; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home of Brunswick was in charge of arrangements.
Maude Floyd Cook
Graveside services for Maude Floyd Cook of Macon were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31 in Macon Memorial Park.
Dr. Neal Wall officiated.
Cook, 91, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 at Eastview Nursing Center. She was the daughter of the late Waddie B. and Ida Elizabeth Ertzberger Youngblood and was the widow of Manning Floyd and Rawl Cook.
She was a native of Westminster, S.C. and had lived in Macon most of her life. She was retired from Willingham Cotton Mill and was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Charles Floyd of Macon; grandchildren, Theresa Prosser, Vicki Matthews and Anissa DeRieux; three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice, Suite 1115, 750 Baconsfield, Macon, Ga. 31211.
Snow’s Memorial Chapel of Pio Nono Avenue in Macon was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Cathleen Brown
Services for Mary Cathleen Brown of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Oakgrove Cemetery.
The Rev. Bill Jones and Dr. William Connell officiated.
Brown, 48, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005. She was the daughter of Christine Yawn Brown and the late Ralph Lamar Brown Jr.
She was a native of Telfair County and had worked as a legal secretary and with the Bibb County Civil Defense Department. She was a member of the McRae First Baptist Church and was widely known as an award-winning published poet.
In addition to her mother, survivors are sisters, including her twin sister, Christy B. Watrous of Peachtree City, Carolyn Brown of College Park, Marilyn Brown of Tucker and Lynne B. and Mickey Harrelson of Helena; brother, Tommy Brown of McRae; nephew, Will Harrelson; and nieces, Christa Harrelson and Mallory Brown.
Active pallbearers included Phillip Rozier, Ronnie Fields, Pete McCrimmon, Hamp Harbin, J.W. Merritt and Tag Graham.

Hazel Woods Gray
Services for Hazel Woods Gray of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at Central Gym of McRae with interment in the Pine Acres Cemetery.
The Rev. Andre P. Scott officiated.
Gray, 42, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005. She was the daughter of Julia Jones Woods and the late Eugene Woods Sr.,and was married to Tommie Lee Gray.
In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include her children, Rev. Andre Pharez Scott of Douglas and Natarsha Shantrell Scott of McRae; sisters, Julia Brown and Shellie Fleming, both of McRae, Iran Jones of Griffin; brothers, Eugene Woods of Milledgeville, Kenneth Woods of Patterson, N.J., Charlie Woods and Michael Woods, both of McRae, Billy Woods of Rentz, and Marvin Woods of Alamo; godson, Justin Woods.

Esther Marsh Haymons
Memorial services for Esther March Haymons of Jacksonville, Fla. were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at Telfair Memorial Gardens.
Haymons died January 24, 2005. She was the widow of LeRoy Haymons.

Audrey R. Huff
Services for Audrey R. Huff were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Fla. with interment at 3 p.m. in Palms Memorial Gardens in Hazlehust.
The Rev. Gary Wheeler, Dr. John Van Delinder and Dr. Lynn Massey officiated.
Huff, 95, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 following a brief illness. She was the widow of Earl Huff.
She was a native of Lumber City and a longtime resident of Jacksonville, Fla. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and was a retired registered nurse.
Survivors include her daughters, Paula Arpen and Barbara Wheeler; grandchildren, Graham A. Arpen and Audrey E. Wheeler.
Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Jacksonville, Fla. was in charge of arrangements.
