Lorene Speed Cannon
Lorene Speed Cannon, age 81 of Clayton GA passed away June 13, 2003 at her residence.
She was born December 2, 1921 the daughter of the late John Ed Speed and Sophie Houck Speed.
She was preceded in death by her Husband Marley Cannon, one son Wayne Cannon and three brothers Cliff Speed, Clyde Speed, Jim Speed.
She is survived by one son Larry Cannon and wife Faye. Two sisters Effie Speed Bleckley, Lezell Speed Cannon, both of Clayton; six Grandchildren Kevin Cannon, Lori C. Moody, Kurt Cannon, Lance Cannon, Leah C. Webb, James Cannon; twelve great-grandchildren.
The Family will receive friends Saturday June 14, 2003 from 6 until 9 PM at Beck Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday June 15, 2003 at Battle Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Madison McCrackin officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Russell Clyde Dobbins
Russell Clyde Dobbins, born December 19, 1916, past-away Sunday, June 29, 2003, after fighting liver, colon, and pancreatic cancer.
Russ is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth whom he married
in September 14, 1940 and their five children: David, Joel, Frances Krance and husband Mark, Bradford and wife Eileen and Russell. Grandchildren include: Zachary Dobbins (Joel); Lauren and Brian Krance (Frances), and; Roscoe and Benjamin Dobbins (Bradford).
Russell was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of Myron and Mary Dobbins, he graduated from Dormont High School on January 31, 1935 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Letters from Pennsylvania State University on August 31, 1939.
He served in World War II, in the United States Army, as a member of the 29th Infantry Division seeing active duty throughout the European theatre.
He moved from Buffalo, New York and settled in Clayton, Georgia in 1974 after retiring from a thirty-year career in sales and sales management with the Buffalo Tank Company a subsidiary of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation.
He was a devoted husband and family-man with varied interests. Throughout his life he enjoyed being, a horseman, a farmer, sailor, fisherman and winemaker. Russell served his community as a mounted police officer with the Erie County Mounted Police Division and as a volunteer fireman with the Warwoman Volunteer Fire Department.
Russell was a Mason and member of the Rabin Gap Lodge # 265 and had been active in the Methodist Church and attended the Clayton Presbyterian Church and Antioch Methodist Church.
There will be a memorial service at 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 5, 2003 at the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wendl Craker officiating, 898 Highway 441 South in Clayton, Georgia. Phone: 706-782-9599.

Ruth M. Bleckley
Ruth M. Bleckley, of Clayton GA passed away Saturday May 24, 2003 at her residence.
Mrs. Bleckley was born in Rabun County on June 11, 1919 to William Berry Marsengill and Myrtle Ellen Giles Marsengill. She was preceded in death by Parents, her husband Lamar S. Bleckley one son Robert Carroll Staton, one daughter Peggy Catherine Staton two brothers B.C. Marsengill, and Wallace Marsengill, one sister Josephine Bennett.
Survivors include three sons Kenneth Lamar Staton of Rome GA, Jimmy Bleckley of Clayton GA, Danny Bleckley of Clayton GA, two daughters Judy Max Alexander of Macon GA, Ellen Ramey of Clayton GA, Also a close extended family member Don Page of Rabun Gap GA, two sisters Willie Mae McCall of Clayton GA, and Lucille Holcomb of Barnesville GA, ten Grandchildren, seven Great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends Sunday May 25, 2003 from 7 until 9 PM at Beck Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be in the Chapel of Beck Funeral Home Monday May 26, 2003 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Sammie Maxwell and Dr Jo Nichols Officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery.

Reginald James LaDuke
Reginald James LaDuke age 78 of Tiger, passed away November 25, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. LaDuke was born in Manchester NH on December 1, 1924 the son of the late Forrest LaDuke and Rose Anges Lundervil LaDuke he worked as a truck driver most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Claire Theresa Pratt LaDuke; two sons Billy LaDuke, Reginald LaDuke Jr.; three daughters Diane LaDuke, Maureen LaDuke, Linda LaDuke; two brothers Wilfred LaDuke, Henry LaDuke.
He is survived by one son Michael LaDuke of Raymond NH; two daughters Janet LaDuke Richmand of Clayton and Dolli LaDuke of Rabun Gap. Two brothers Forrest LaDuke of Manchester NH; And Maurice LaDuke of Goffsfalls NH. One sister Isabell “Bell” LaDuke Martel of Manchaster NH. and nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Robert (Bob) S. Rogers
Robert (Bob) Snelling Rogers, age 71, of Mountain City passed away November 24, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness.
Bob was born in Rabun county August 10, 1932 the son of the late Walter and Mollie Nix Rogers. He worked for Florida Natural Gas for many years. He was a Master Mason a member of Lodge 91 Lakeland Florida, a 32 degree Scottish right mason, a member of the American Legion, and served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Curtis Rogers, Charles Rogers, Frank Rogers; four sisters Pauline Speed, Cathrine Bennett, Margaret Griggs, and Clara Clark.
He is survived by his Loving wife of 47 years Rosalyn ( Rose) Moore Rogers; one son Alan Rogers of West Palm Beach FL; one Brother Douglas Rogers of Alexandria LA; two sisters and Brother-in-laws Emily and Cecil Tyler of Mountain City GA, Selene and Larry English of Tampa FL; two granddaughters Amanda and husband Billy Hale of Covington GA, Dakota Rogers of West Palm Beach FL; three great-granddaughters Alexas, Mckinsey, and Choloe Hale, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Edna E. Watson Ledbetter
(November 20, 1930 - June 28, 2011)
Mrs. Edna E. Watson Ledbetter, age 80, of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. She was born on November 20, 1930 in Cedartown; she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Russell and Molly Martin Watson.
Mrs. Ledbetter and her husband, Everett opened and managed Ledbetter Insurance Company here in Cedartown in 1973.
Mrs. Ledbetter is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Everett Ledbetter; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Gary White; son and daughter- in-law, Keith and Denise Ledbetter; sisters, Margaret Cowin, Geraldine Stephens and Carolyn Spann; grandchildren, Shae Ledbetter, Chad Ledbetter, Wayne White and Craig White; step-grandchildren, Allison Johnson and Josh Johnson; great-grandchildren, Kamlyn Ledbetter, Brett Ledbetter, Christian Ledbetter, Drew Ledbetter, Sydney White, Emily White, Sarah Beth White and Jay White.
Mrs. Ledbetter is preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.
The funeral arrangements for Mrs. Ledbetter will be conducted on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at two o’clock in the afternoon at the Cedar Lake Christian Center with Bishop David Huskins officiating.
Mrs. Ledbetter will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral hour at Cedar Lake Christian Center.
Entombment will follow in the Polk Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Ledbetter will receive family and friends on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from six o’clock in the evening until nine o’clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers; Michael Brower, Aaron Pace and all of Mrs. Ledbetter’s grandsons.

Charles Edward Smith
Charles Edward Smith, age 89 of Clayton Passed Saturday November 22, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness.
Charles was born in Springfield IL on February 2, 1914 the son of the late Charles Henry and Margaret Elizabeth Smith. He was an Army veteran of WWII who served his country proudly. He was raised in the Catholic Faith and after his marriage to Sarah Hackbardt he joined Lakewood Village Community Church in California. He was currently a member of Clayton First Methodist Church. He was a civil engineer with the state of California, and volunteered his time as a pilot to help search for lost and injured hikers. When he moved to Georgia after his retirement Charles began a very successful couple’s bridge club which is still going strong. He loved God, family, nature, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Howard Joseph Smith, and two sisters Mildred Smith Martin, Margaret Mary Smith.
Mr. Smith is Survived by his loving wife Sarah Grace Pugh Hackbardt Smith; one stepdaughter Carol L. Hackbardt of WI; one stepson Ed Hart and wife Jane of CA.; one sister Irene Smith of CA, a sister-in-law Molly Dobbins and Family; and a number of other relatives also survive.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday November 26, 2003 at the Clayton United Methodist Church with Rev. Warren Huddleston officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

Bette Lou Baggett
Bette Lou Helwagen Baggett, of Riverview Fl, also of Clayton GA, age 70 passed away December 15, 2003 at north east Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Baggett was born in Circleville Ohio, January 13, 1933 the daughter of the late Ed Helwagen and Laura Belle Carter Helwagen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Bud Helwagen; two sisters Marge Enloa Barczsc, Louise Roth.
She is survived by her loving husband Julian H. Baggett of FL, two daughters Kandy Davis and husband Paul of Tampa Fl, Laura Koch of Circleville Ohio; two step daughters Juli Burton and husband Ed of Riverview Fl, Marsha Cargil and husband Bob of Tampa Fl; one step son Howard McMahow and wife Jane of V.A.; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be held in Brandon Fl at Stowers Funeral Home at a time to be determined later. Burial will be in Fitzgerald cemetery in Lakeland Fl.
Louise Parker Hill
Louise Parker Hill, Age 87, formerly of Clayton passed away November 11, 2003 in Savannah Georgia.
She born in Rabun County Georgia on October 23, 1916 the daughter of the late James Parker and Dessie King Parker. She was a faithful member of Clayton Baptist Church for many years. Louise and Her loving husband Claud Hill owned and operated Hills Camp and store in the Timpson Creek Community for many years. She was a member of the woman’s club, Second milers, and fidelity Sunday school class. She was a school teacher before having children in the Persimmon School and the Germany School.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Tom Brown Parker and Talvin Parker; one sister Pauline Parker.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Claud Hill, Two sons, James Hill of Dallas Texas, Tommy Hill of Savannah Georgia, one daughter Nancy Hill Scoggins of Fort Worth Texas; one brother Ted Parker of Monroe North Carolina; four grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening November 13, 2003 at Beck Funeral Home from 6:00PM until 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be Held Friday November 14, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Clayton Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Campbell officiating, interment will follow in Rabun Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jack D. Guthrie
Jack Douglas Guthrie Sr., age 77, of Clayton GA passed away November 6, 2003 at North East Georgia Medical Center.
He was born September 12, 1926 in Walton County, GA the son of the late Wayman and Estelle Boss Guthrie. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Navy. He was an accountant and owned Guthrie and Associates of Clayton GA, . Jack was a Master Mason, a member of Rabun Gap Lodge 265 in Clayton and was a 32 Degree Scottish Right Mason, and was a Rotarian for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Ruth Ann Haddle Guthrie of the home; one son Jack Douglas Guthrie Jr. of Lawrenceville GA; two daughters Marianne Guthrie Meyer of North Augusta SC., Lindy Guthrie Martin of Sugar Hill GA; Two Granddaughters; and two Grandsons also survive.
The family will receive friends Sunday November 9, 2003 from 5:00 Pm until 7:00 Pm at Beck Funeral Home.
