Charlotte Glenda Wood
Charlotte Glenda Bates Wood, age 73, of Mountain City, GA passed away on March 19, 2004.
Mrs. Wood was born in Lakeland Florida on November 6, 1930. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was totally loved, and will be missed by all.
Charlotte is survived by her loving husband James E. Wood; her son James E. Wood Jr.; her daughter Charlene G. Williams all of Mountain City, GA. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Tammy Bratcher of Tampa FL, Kristy Wheeler of Lakeland FL, Michael Mocny of Dawsonville, GA, and Stephanie Hollars of Neosho, MO; 7 great-grandchildren, Summer Judd of Tampa FL, Autumn Wheeler, Amber Wheeler, Adam Wheeler, Aaron Wheeler, and Ashtyn Wheeler all of Lakeland, FL, and Kenaniah Hollars of Neosho, MO. She is also survived by 4 sisters, Florine Robson, Linda Doyle, Peggy Humphreys, and Carolyn Tomlinson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family held a private memorial service.

Colonel Charles Martino
Charles William Martino, age 73, of Clayton GA passed away March 7, 2004 at his home.
Charles William Martino, the son of Nicholas and Betty Tomlison Martino, was born October 27, 1930 Montgomery County, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Graduated Upper Moreland High School, 1948. Graduated University of Omaha Nebraska, 1961 with a Bachelor of Science, Graduated University of Colorado, 1968 with a Master of Science. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1980 and retired October 1, 1980 as Colonel, USAF, Medical Service Corps after serving at locations in the states, Labrador, Canada, Ankara Turkey, Thailand, and Hawaii. While stationed in Hawaii, Charles served with the U.S. Air Force Headquarters for the Pacific from 1970 through 1974, which included all bases in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He returned from the Pacific to Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina to serve as Administrator for the Regional Hospital. They moved to Langley Air Force Base, Virginia in 1978 where he was the Senior Administrator for the Tactical Air Command. While in the service Charles received the Marksmanship Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 1SOLC National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Forces Out Standing Unit Award, AFR 900-48. Meritorious Service Medal with /10LC, Defense Supply Agency Letter Dated 17 June 1970. Charles was a member of “The Godfathers” at Sunset Country Club, Sumter, SC, Kingwood Country Club, Clayton, Ga., Retired Air Force Officers Association and Medical Service Corps Association. He was a former volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America.
His parents and one child, Denise Annette Martino, preceded Charles in death.
Mr. Martino is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sarah Odessa Martino; one son, Charles W. Martino, Jr. of Myrtle Beach South Carolina; two daughters Deborah Martino Young of Broussard, Louisiana, and Deidre Martino Scott of Bedminster, New Jersey; four grandsons, two granddaughters, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home Wednesday March 10, 2004 from 10:00 until 12:00 PM with the funeral service to follow in the chapel of Beck Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Rev. Doug Volk officiating.
Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery Thursday April 1, 2004 at 9:00 AM with Full Military Honors. Guests are asked to arrive at Arlington cemetery 30 minutes prior to the service.

Anthany Lowell Lightsey
Anthany Lowell Lightsey 44, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on March 24th at his residence.
Anthany was born on May 5, 1959 to Lowell France Lightsey and Sue Nell Justus Lightsey.
He was the grandson of the late Noel Justus and Louellen Justus Prince; and Hiram Lightsey and Rena Bowles Lightsey.
Anthany is survived by his parents and one brother, Eric Shawn Lightsey.
Anthany was a member of Collins Hills Baptist Church and was a Missionary traveling the world spreading the Gospel.
Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday March 27 with a service to follow at 1 PM in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Billy Driskell will officiate. Burial will be in the Mountain Grove Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Edwin Ken Arrowood
Edwin Kendall Arrowood age 78, passed away February 29, 2004 at Rabun County Hospital.
Mr. Arrowood was born in Murray County GA. December 1, 1925 to Claude Martin Arrowood and Lucille Plemons Arrowood. He was a member of Lakemont Baptist Church and was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was member of American Legion, a Master Mason a member of Rabun Gap Lodge 265, former member of Lions Club and Jaycee’s, and Boy Scout Master where he received the Silver Beaver Award. He was Veteran of World War II serving in the Navy from 1943 to 1945. He was honorary member of the Lakemont –Wiley Vol. Fire Department. He had retired from Georgia Power as local manager, and founder of Clayton Carpet Center.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Jewell Arrowood of the home, one son Jim Arrowood of Gainesville, GA; one daughter Kay Botjer and husband Fritz of Lakemont and Gainesville GA; one sister Nelloise Higdon and husband Robert of Dalton GA.; one brother Ray Arrowood of Etowah, NC.; one Grandchild Cynthia Yarck and husband Dale, and two great-grandchildren, Alayna and Alyssa Yarck.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home Tuesday March 2, 2004 from 6:00 till 8:00 PM.Funeral services will be held at Beck Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday March 3, 2004 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Alice Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Rabun Memorial cemetery with full Military Rites by Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and VFW.

Mary Elizabeth Dobbins
Mary Elizabeth Pugh Dobbins “Mollie” 86, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2004 in Chicago, Illinois. She was born on October 27, 1917 to Reverend Walter and Mary Pugh.
Her life was marked with satisfaction and success that comes with good character, hard work, and dedication. She graduated from East Hampfield High School in 1934 and from Pennsylvania State University in 1938. She married
Russell Clyde Dobbins in 1940. Together they raised five children, seeing them all complete college and enter into professional careers. She and her husband Russ enjoyed horseback riding, camping, sailing, gardening, and getting together with friends and family. For the first thirty years Mollie and Russ lived on Warwoman Road in Clayton, Georgia on the side of Rainy Mountain in the beautiful trees of Rabun County. Mollie was especially known for her fine cooking, her excellent bridge playing and her love of reading. She was devoted to her family. She was always active and willing to join in any activity or to plan an enjoyable party or outing for others. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years and by her older sister Nancy Piefer. She is survived by her five children: David Gordon Dobbins, Joel Brownlee Dobbins (and son Zachary), Frances Claire Dobbins Krance (and husband Mark, daughter Lauren, and son Brian), Bradford Hertzler Dobbins (and wife Eileen and sons Roscoe and Benjamin), and Russell Morley Keiper Dobbins. She is also survived by her younger sister Sally Smith (and her daughter Reverend Carol Hackbart).
There will be a memorial service at 3:00 PM, Saturday February 7, 2004 at the Beck Funeral Home Chapel, 898 Highway 441 South, Clayton, Georgia. Following the memorial service until 6:30, the family will be receiving friends at the home of their youngest son, Russ M.K. Dobbins at 25 Blanche Place Rd. in Clayton. The Family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, those wanting to leave something in Mollie’s memory may make a donation in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association of America.
Zoralee “Zokie” Welborn Potter
Zoralee “Zokie” Welborn Potter, Age 84, of Clayton passed away February 4, 2004.
Mrs. Potter Was born in Rabun County Georgia on September 08, 1919 the daughter of the late Thomas Tillman Lafayette Welborn and Ida Mae Bradshaw Welborn, and was the widow of Guy E. Potter. She attended Persimmon Baptist Church.
Zokie was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, one sister Zura Welborn Parker, and one brother George B. Welborn. She was the last surviving member of her immediate Family.
She is survived by a number of nieces, nephew, Great nieces; Great nephews all of which she loved like her own children.
The family will receive friends Thursday February 5, 2004 at Beck Funeral Home from 7:00 until 9:00 PM
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday February 6, 2004 at Persimmon Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Carpenter and Rev Wayman Lunsford officiating. Mrs. Potter will lie in state in the church an hour prior to the service

Lt. Col. William Alexander Barnett
Lt. Col. William Alexander Barnett, age 87 of Rabun Gap Georgia, passed away February 6, 2004.
Mr. Barnett was born November 06, 1916 in Orlando Fl. the son of Ira Mason Barnett, and Elenor Moreman Barnett.
William was a World War II Veteran and served in the Air Force where he was a B17 Pilot. While serving as a B17 pilot he flew 35 successful flights over Germany. He worked for BellSouth for 41 years and retired as a cable repair manager. He was also a member of many organizations which include: 384th Bomb Group Flying Fortress Association, Georgia Chapter of 8th Air Force Historical Society, Reserve Officers Association, Telephone Pioneer of America, Habitat For Humanity, Military Retirees of Franklin, and the Aviation Historical Society of Franklin.
William was preceded in death by his parents; one son William Alexander Barnett Jr; one brother Mason Barnett; and one sister Betty Jane Baker.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia Lawrence Barnett of the home; Two Daughters Martha and husband Edward Meadows, Melanie and Husband Jon Miller; one son Geoffery and wife Marlyn Barnett all of Florida; eleven Grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will have a memorial service 2:00 PM Saturday February 21, 2004 at Central Baptist Church, 142 Fairview Ave. Daytona Beach Florida (386) 255-2588.

James Ahrens
James Ahrens age 82, of Clayton; GA. passed away March 31, 2004 at North Georgia Medical Center.
He was born in 1919 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and was the son of the late Harry Ahrens and Irene Graves Ahrens.
He is survived by his wife Carol Ann Maginnis Ahrens, three children, Dan Ahrens of Hartford City, Indiana; Diane Ehrman of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and Jeff Ahrens of Port Charlotte, Florida, seven step-children; a brother, Donald Ahrens of Gas City, Indiana; and a step-brother Raymond Ahrens of Porterville, California.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a carpenter by trade.
Jim was very active in his faith, being baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 50 years, serving as an elder for approximately 53 years, in Hartford City, Indiana, Jacksonville, FL, and in the Mountain City Congregation, where he was serving at the time of his passing.
There will be a memorial service Saturday April 10, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 176 Shepard St. Mountain City, GA. Mark E. Crawford will be officiating.

Mr. Albert Frederick Aring Jr., age 85, of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011. He was born on December 28, 1925 in Chapin, Illinois; he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Frederick and Clara Koff Aring, Sr.
Mr. Aring is survived by daughter and son-law, Bertha Kay and Gregory R. Desjarlais; sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert Lee and LaDonna Aring, Donald Keith and Lisa Aring and Michael F. Aring; brother, Virgil Aring; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Aring is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillian Elizabeth Stroup Aring; brothers, Marvin Aring and Wayne Aring and sisters, Inamarie Magletz, Helen Dyer and Erma.
The funeral arrangements for Mr. Aring will be conducted on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at eleven o’clock in the morning in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Karch officiating.

The family of Mr. Aring will receive friends on Wednesday, May 04, 2011 from six o’clock in the evening until nine o’clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Mary Magdline Chastain Queen
Mary Magdline Chastain Queen age 87, of Clayton passed away April 16, 2004 at North Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Queen was born September 7, 1916 in Pickens County, South Carolina to Madison Asble Chastain and Rosalee Posey Chastain. She was member of Carver Chapel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Queen was preceded in death by her parents, Seven brothers, Bill Chastain, Lonnie Chastain, Mark Chastain, Carl Chastain, Waymon Chastain, Burley Chastain, and Leonard Chastain; one sister Christine Chastain. She is survived by three sons; Bill Queen of Dalton, GA., Calvin Queen of Canon, GA., and Monroe Queen of Clayton, GA. Two daughters Lorene Sander of Canon, GA. and Bonnie Dyson of Green Castle, PA. She is also survived by two brothers Leroy Chastain of Clarksville, GA. and Ervin Chastain of Mountain City, GA. Twelve Grandchildren and 19 great-grand children, one Great-great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Queen was cremated and a memorial service will be held in the chapel at Beck Funeral Home on Saturday April 24, 2004 at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mary Queen.
