Mabel Edna Travis Heater
Mabel Edna Travis Heater, 87, of Rabun Gap, GA passed away on Sunday December 12, 2004 at Britthaven Convalescent Home in Franklin, NC.
She was the daughter of the late Edson Alford Travis and Blanche Olive Comfort Travis. She was also preceded in death by her husband Eston Heater, two brothers, John and Edson Heater; one sister Mildred Coss and a great-grandchild, Jacob Rhodes.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynda Cannon and her husband Joseph Cannon of Rabun Gap, GA; one brother, Warren Travis of New York; two sisters, Blanche Travis of New York and May Hull of Pennsylvania. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Tammie Rhodes of Atlanta, GA and Keri Cannon of Rabun Gap, GA, and two great-grandchildren, Jesse Cannon and Jeremy Cannon, both of Rabun Gap, GA.
The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Clarice Jiles Owens
Clarice Jiles Owens, 56, of Franklin, North Carolina and formerly of Mountain City, Georgia passed away on March 1, 2006 at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC.
She was born in Clayton, Georgia and was the daughter of Willie Jiles and Lola Emory Jiles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Almon Jiles and a sister, Evelyn Jiles Bowen and two Step-Sons Keith Owens and Mike Owens.
Clarice is survived by her loving husband Carlton Owens of the home, and one son, Bryan Carlton Owens of Franklin, NC; 3 sisters, Lois Jiles Clark of Lakemont, Georgia, Edith Jiles Gipson of Lakemont, Georgia, and Jean Jiles Harrison of Hollywood, Georgia. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Hunter Owens, Brielle Owens, and Christa Owens.
She was a beautician and cosmetologist, and was a member of the Rabun County Eastern Star Chapter #162. She was of the Baptist faith.
The family will receive family and friends at Beck Funeral Home in Clayton, Georgia on Friday March 3, 2006 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday March 4, 2006 at 11 AM with Reverend Benny Bagwell officiating. Burial will follow in Taylor’s Chapel Cemetery, Mountain City Georgia.

Bessie M. (Hunter) Ramey
Bessie M. (Hunter) Ramey, 72, of Clayton Ga passed away Monday January 24, 2005 at NE Georgia Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lester Hunter and Hester Keener Hunter, her husband, John Ramey, three brothers, Hubert Hunter, Glen Hunter, L.J. Hunter; and one sister Ethel Watts.
Bessie is survived by three sons, Bobby Hunter and wife Lynda, of Clayton, GA; Ronnie Hunter and wife Linda, of Jasper, GA; Jimmy Hunter and wife Debbie, of Mountain City, GA; two daughters, Joyce Ashburn and husband John, of Clayton, GA; and Jan Ferguson and husband Larry, of Tiger, GA. She is also survived by one sister, Claudene Simmons of Tiger, GA, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Bessie was a lifetime resident of Rabun County and was a member of the Lakemont Baptist Church. She was a retired inspector in the textile industry.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday January 25, 2005 from 6 PM to 9 PM.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Lakemont Baptist Church on Wednesday January 26, 2005 at 2 PM with Reverend Larry Brown and Reverend Madison McCrackin officiating. Reverend Robert Alexander will officiate at the graveside at Rabun Memorial Park cemetery in Tiger, GA.
Memorial Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Bessie Ramey.
The family will be at the residence of Jimmy and Debbie Hunter in Mountain City GA.

Jean Swearingen
Jean Louise Wise Swearingen, 74 of Mountain city, passed away February 6, 2005 at Rabun County Hospital.
Jean was the daughter of Harry Albert Wise and Francis Bula Johnson Wise born in Ashland Kentucky in 1930. She was a member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church.
Jean is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Swearingen of the home; one Daughter Darlene Powers of Rabun Gap; one step daughter Patricia Swearingen Hecker of Indiana; one step son Kenneth R. Swearingen Jr. of Florida; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at a later date.

Myrtice Patricia Wall Roach
Myrtice Patricia Wall Roach, 84, of Rabun Gap, GA passed away Thursday February 24, 2005 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Russell Wall and Savannah Page Wall; her husband Roy Lee Roach; a daughter Carol Roach; brothers, Harold Wall, Reid Wall, Gene Wall; sisters, Ruby Nell Parker and Ruth Wall, and one grandchild, James Bryson.
She is survived by 4 sons, Russell L. Roach, Anderson, SC; J.L. Roach, Buford, GA; Leon Roach, Clayton, GA; Harold Roach, Clayton, GA; 3 daughters, Arlene Wood, Nicholson, GA; Shelby Chastain, Belton, SC; Wilma McCall, Franklin, NC; 2 brothers, Calvin Wall, Greenville, SC; Bill Wall, Lawrenceville, GA; 3 sisters, Maxine Southards, Mountain City, GA; Dorothy Stockton, Alto, GA; Patsy McCracken, Lakemont, GA; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Myrtice was a lifelong resident of Rabun County, a member of Black Rock Baptist Church, and a very active member of the Rabun County Senior Citizens Organization.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home on Saturday February 26, 2005 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday February 27, 2005 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Harold Houck officiating. Burial will follow at the Wolffork Baptist Church Cemetery

Wiliam Boland Stainback
William Boland Stainback, 81, of Lakemont, GA passed away Monday February 28, 2005 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Frank Stainback and Mae Speers Stainback.
He is survived by his wife Martha Carolyn Dunahoo Stainback of the home, two sons, James Harold Stainback and wife Mary Kay of Lilburn, GA; and Lawrence Edward Stainback of Chamblee, GA; and one brother, James Frank Stainback of Blufton, SC.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, James Harold Stainback, Jr. and wife Ashley; David Allen Stainback and wife Dena; Brittany Belle Stainback; and Nicholas William Stainback. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Blake Stainback, Nathan Stainback, Matthew Stainback, Elizabeth Stainback, and DeJa Belle Spring. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive.
Bill had been coming to Rabun County for a number of years before moving here full-time from Chamblee, GA in 1981. He was retired from the US Army (Sgt. Major), and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and the French Medal of Honor during World War II. He also graduated from UGA, and was an offset printing press operator. Bill was a member of The Clayton Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday March 3, 2005.
A memorial service, with full military honors, will be held in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday March 3, 2005 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Wendel Craker officiating.

Chet Carson
Chet Carson, of Sky Valley, GA passed away at his home on Monday March 14, 2005.
His mother, Pearl Masco Carson, and his father, Ralph Carson, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Glenna Powell Carson, a son Clive Gerhardt and wife Linda from England, a daughter Bonnie Lee Johnson of Beltsville, MD, his brother Lon Carson and wife Margaret of Burleson, TX, three grandchildren, one nephew and three niece’s.
Chet was a veteran of World War II having served with the United States Air Force. He was a self employed builder and developer. He was born in Watertown, NY, and came to Rabun County in 1979 from Longwood, FL. He was a Master Mason/32nd Degree Scottish Rite & Shriner, and a member of Cross Roads Lodge 520 in Solvay, NY. He was a member of Sky Valley Chapel.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sky Valley Chapel in Dillard, GA on Friday March 18, 2005 at 2:00 PM with Bishop John Erbelding officiating.

Beatrice Lockard Kelly
Beatrice Lockard Kelly passed away on Thursday March 17, 2005. She was born on May 18, 1919 in Barboursville, KY, the daughter of Gertrude and Betty Jane Baker Lockard.
She was preceded in death by her husband Claude J. Kelly; 2 sons, Bobby Ray Kelly and Roy Lockard Kelly; a great-grandson, Levii English; 3 brothers, Dillard, George, and Tilmon Lockard, and a sister, Leo Newman.
Mrs. Kelly was a homemaker, a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rabun Chapter #164, and a director of Rabun County Bank from 1990 – 2002. In 1935 Beatrice married
Claude Kelly, a native of Rabun County. They traveled with the TVA until 1945 when they returned to Rabun County and established Rabun Quarries, Inc. on Kelly’s Creek Road in Rabun Gap. The Quarry is still owned by the Claude Kelly family, leased and operated by Vulcan Materials.
Survivors include one son, William (Bill) T. Kelly and his wife, Jean of Dillard, GA; two daughters, Betty Wyatt and her husband, Leigh of Rabun Gap, and Claudia Cantrell and her husband, Jim of Columbus, GA; one sister, Sue rice of Oak Ridge, TN, and two sisters in law, Marie Lockard of Orlando, FL and Top Lockard of Berea, KY. 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday March 19, 2005 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church in Dillard at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Doug Porter officiating. Burial will be in the Wesley Memorial cemetery at Rabun Gap. The pallbearers will be her grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Roy Kelly Benevolent Fund at Head of Tennessee Baptist Church 895 Franklin Street, Dillard, GA 30537.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Betty Wyatt on Kellys Creek Road in Rabun Gap.

Earl Lloyd Shedd
Earl Lloyd Shedd, 88, of Clayton, GA passed away Friday March 18, 2005 at Rabun County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was the son of Etna Shedd and Lizzie Crone Shedd.
He attended school in Tallulah Falls, GA, and then joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp) where he had many duties. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1937 and served with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific during World War II. He was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received at Guadalcanal.
After serving 9 years in the Marine Corp he was employed by the U.S. Civil Service Commission for 21 years until his retirement. From 1945 until 2001 he resided in California. He then returned to Clayton, GA to live with his sister, Edith Hollifield.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Hollifield Shedd.
He is survived by one son Ronald Earl Shedd of Temecula, CA; one grandson, Ronnie Shedd, one granddaughter Ronelle Remlinger and her husband Mike, of Scottsdale, AZ, two great-grandchildren Chance and Skyler Remlinger of Scottsdale, AZ; one brother, Grover Shedd and his wife Mary of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters, Patricia Geach of Mount Clemons, MI; and Edith Hollifield of Clayton, GA. Several nieces, and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday March 20, 2005. Funeral services will follow visitation at 3:00 PM in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joe Nichols officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be in the Tiger Cemetery, Tiger, GA.
