Della Crawford Watts, 102, of Tiger, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Traces of Tiger.
She was born in Tiger, GA, and was the daughter of the late M.L. and Julia Holcomb Crawford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgbert G. Watts and a sister, Zella Ramey.
Mrs. Watts is survived by a son, Calvin Watts and his wife, Dorothy of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Carol Watts Reeves and her husband, Lewis Jr. of Clayton, GA; half-brothers and sisters, Marvenia Ramey, Carolyn Patterson, JoAnn Veal, Mack Crawford, Broderick Crawford; grandchildren, Les Watts, John Watts, Lewis Reeves III, Chris Hendricks, Jeff Reeves, and Ann Houston. 13 Great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
She was a life-long resident of Rabun County and was a valuable source of our community’s history. She was also a member of Clayton Presbyterian Church, an honorary member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Clayton Music Club.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home on Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 7 PM to 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held at Clayton Presbyterian Church on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 4 PM with Rev. Jeff Houston and Rev. Alice Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Tiger Cemetery.

Timothy “Bo” Heller James
Timothy “Bo” Heller James, 53, of Clayton, GA, passed away June 14th, 2010 on Brush Creek in California due to a kayaking accident.
He was born in Clayton, GA on April 30, 1957 and was the son of Carolyn Brewer James and the late Lloyd Heller James.
He is survived by his wife Linda Toth James; son Joshua Logan James; daughters Hannah Elizabeth James, Annie Rebekah James, and Sarah Moriah James. He is also survived by brothers; Lloyd “Spud” Terrell, of Clayton Georgia, Randall Phillip James, (wife Jane Carpenter James) of Clayton, Georgia, Dexter Jarrell James (wife Patricia Ramey James) of Phenix City, Alabama, and one sister, Marian James Thompson (husband Wesley Scott Thompson) of Hendersonville, NC. Eight nieces and six nephews also survive.
Bo and Linda were married
in Bladenboro, NC on February 14th, 1981. They met at Mars Hill College. Bo played football at Mars Hill College and graduated December 1980. He began teaching at Rabun County in January 1981. Bo taught and coached football and track for 25 years. He was also the pastor at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Franklin, NC for about 3 years. He was a member of Clayton Baptist Church.
He believed in hard work, integrity, and living life to the fullest.
Bo enjoyed living life as an adventurer. He enjoyed sharing these adventures with others. Whether it was hiking, camping, kayaking, snorkeling, or biking, he made every trip an unforgettable one. There was always a tale to tell once you survived an adventure with Bo James. He truly loved and cared about others and wanted everyone to experience life the way he lived it every day. Above all this, Jesus Christ and his family were his greatest joy.
The family will receive friends and family at Beck Funeral Home on Sunday, June 20, 2010 from 4PM to 9PM. Services will be held Monday, June 21, 2010, at 2:00 in the Rabun County High School gym with Joey Thompson officiating. Also, David Rogers, Dexter James, Logan James and Chad Cheatham will speak. Burial will follow at Harvey cemetery in Tallulah Falls, GA with Joey Thompson officiating and Scott Thompson speaking.

Ernest James Luzar III
Ernest James Luzar III, 61, of Venice Florida, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Mountain Lakes Medical Center.
He was born May 2, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Ernest and Gladys Pevec Luzar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter. Angela Luzar.
Mr. Luzar is survived by his loving wife, Anne Marie Urankar Luzar; a son, Ernest Luzar IV of Wickliffe, Ohio; and a sister, Kathleen Majni of Fairport Harbor, Ohio.
He worked as a Teachers’ Aide for the Sarasota County School System and was Past President of the Lake Rabun Property Owners Association and vacationed in Lake Rabun Estates.
At his request, he was cremated and no services are planned locally.

Stephen Dewayne Ferguson
(May 2, 1958 - May 20, 2011)
Mr. Stephen Dewayne Ferguson, age 53, of Cedartown, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011. He was born on May 2, 1958 in Cedartown, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Henry Ferguson, Jr. and Mrs. Mary Helen Smith Ferguson.
Mr. Ferguson is survived by his daughter, Tonya Ferguson; son, Damon Ferguson; step-son, Joe Farmer; sisters, Darlene Ferguson and Melissa Rayburn; brothers, Johnny Ferguson and Larry Ferguson; grandchildren, Gauge Ferguson, Devan Pinson, Bryant Davis, Kamden Ferguson; and step-grandchildren, Heather Farmer, Mason Farmer, Robert Farmer, and Madison Farmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service for Mr. Ferguson will be conducted on Monday, May 23, 2011 at Two o'clock in the afternoon in the Chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Spears and Rev. Jerome Smith officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Polk Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive frineds on Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 6:00 till 8:00 in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Mae (Zoellner) Wall Ayers
Mae (Zoellner) Wall Ayers, 86, of Otto, NC passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Angel Medical Center in Franklin, NC. Born August 27, 1923 in Rabun County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Will and Magalene Webb Zoellner. She was also the widow of Nat Wall and Jerry Ayers, and had resided in Otto, NC for the past 44 years, She was a Baptist and a member of Newman’s Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn W. and Dorsey Chitwood; a daughter-in-law, Marian T. Wall; sons, Jerry M. Wall and infant Kenneth Dean Wall; brother, Charlie Zoellner; sisters, Lucy Z. York and Louise Z. Henderson; and one grandson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry W. and Kenneth Lambert of Otto, NC; a son, William (Bud) Wall of Clayton, GA; a daughter-in-law, Joyce P. Wall of Toccoa, GA; a sister, Amilee Z. Hamby of Williamston, SC; and a brother, Earl Zoellner of Dillard, GA. 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild also survive.
Mae was a fixture in the local restaurant business for many years. She and her husband, Nat, were the owners of Wall’s Drive In, which was a popular gathering place in Clayton for many years. After his death, she worked in many local restaurants including her daughter’s until the summer of 2009 when she finally decided to retire. She also was an expert seamstress and could sew anything and was retired from Empire Manufacturing Company. Besides sewing, her hobbies included berry picking and reading. She was an avid reader and was often able to read multiple books in one day. Her love of reading has been passed down in her family to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family and looked forward each year for our family gatherings at Christmas, birthdays, and any other reason for us to gather. Our Mother, Mother Mae, and Nanny will be missed by our family and her many friends in the community.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home on Monday, June 7, 2010 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 3 PM at Beck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Newman’s Chapel Cemetery.

Minnie Annis (Robbs) Ulmer
Minnie Annis (Robbs) Ulmer, 90, has a permanent change of address. Her SAVIOR and LORD JESUS CHRIST took her home June 2, 2010. It’s a fulfillment of the Bible promise for every Christian, “To be absent from the body is to be present with THE LORD.” (2COR.5:7) Minnie was born October 7, 1919 to W. Drew Robbs and Ida Robinson Robbs, in Paragould, Ark. Also predeceasing her was her brother, Dr. John A. Robbs, and her beloved husband of 57 years. Eston A. Ulmer. Minnie is survived by her daughter, MaryAnn Ulmer, Sky Valley, GA; her son, Rev. Stephen T. Ulmer [Susan], Seattle, WA; her grandson, Dr. Jonathan E. Ulmer [Rachel], Paris, France; 2 granddaughters: Rebekah Eszenyi [Mat], Hillsboro, OR; Ruth Schryba [Sean], Seattle, WA; 4 Great-grandchildren: Sandor, Zoli, Dominique, and Elsa Eszenyi; 4 nephews, 2 nieces and several grand and great-grand nephews and nieces. Minnie’s love for music began at an early age. She played the piano, violin, and the accordion. Minnie married
young, so she did not enter college until her two children were in elementary school. She graduated from the Univ. of Miami, summa cum laude in 3 years. Minnie was invited to join Sigma Alpha Iota, a national honorary music fraternity. Minnie’s minor degree was in organ, so that led her to a 38-year career as a church organist. She also became a certified music braillist with the Library of Congress and taught in public schools for 11 years. Her last few years in Miami, Minnie was a choir director and organist for Coral Way Presbyterian Church, Miami. She was a long time member of University Baptist Church, Coral Gables, while she lived in Miami. Eston and Minnie began to visit Sky Valley in 1977. They were seasonal residents since March 1980. Minnie attended the Sunday worship services held in the Sky Room, of the Lodge, where she met and became friends with the late Sandra McClure. The McClure family funded the Tom McClure Memorial Chapel. Eston donated the organ and Minnie played the first Christmas Eve service in 1980. Minnie started a choir the summer of 1981. The choir decided that they needed a Choir loft, so the building and the beautiful stained glass window were extended 20 feet. Minnie was choir director and organist for several years at the Chapel. Minnie was involved in the Valley Garden Club as well as the Women’s Club. Minnie enjoyed group hiking, sewing, knitting, and gardening.
Minnie’s earthly body will be laid beside Eston’s in Dade City, Florida in a private family graveside burial. A Celebration of Minnie’s life will be held this summer at Community Bible Church, in Highlands, NC where she was a member.

Betty I. (Giles) Holbrook
Betty I. (Giles) Holbrook, age 79, of Mountain City, Georgia, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 2, 2010.
She was born in Rabun County on May 2, 1931 to Viril Alvin and Myrtle Leon Garner Giles.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Larkin Holbrook in 2006 and a son, John Ed Holbrook.
She is survived by a son, Jeff Holbrook and his wife Regina of Mountain City; two sisters, Mary Stewart and Roxie Ritchie; and five grandchildren, Jamie, Johnny, Whitney, Elijah and Josh. Two great-grandchildren, Skylar and Remington also survive.
Betty was a long time operator for Empire Textiles, a member for over 60 years of Taylors Chapel Baptist Church having lived on Black Rock Mountain, and was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
At Betty’s request, private services were held and burial was in Taylors Chapel Cemetery.

C. Waymon Wages, Jr.
(Died May 21, 2011)
Mr. C. Waymon Wages, Jr., age 52 of Cedartown, formerly of Smyrna passed away Saturday May 21, 2011.
Mr. Wages was a 1976 Graduate of Wills High School and was employed with the Georgia Power Company with over 30 years of service as Operations Team Leader. He was a Mason and a Member of Tillman United Methodist Church. He loved motorcycles and cooking.
Mr. Waymon Wages is survived by his wife, Susan Woodyard Wages of Cedartown; mother, Dorothy Wages of Smyrna; brother, Eric Wages of Smyrna; and nephews, Christopher Wages and Joseph Woodyard.
Funeral services for Mr. Wages will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday May 24, 2011 at the Carmichael Funeral Home Chapel in Smyrna, Georgia. iIntermentwill follow in the Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens cemetery in Forsyth, Georgia at 2:00 pm.
The family will receive friends on Monday May 23, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Carmichael Funeral Home.

Ernestine Plyler Dyess
Ernestine Plyler Dyess, 82, died January 16, 2001, at her residence, after a long illness.
The North Carolina native lived in Claxton most of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, George Durrence Sunday School Class and the Wesleyan Fellowship Group. She was a member of the Cancer Society and served as a Pink Lady for several years at Evans Memorial Hospital. She was active in church and civic affairs and was a retired bookkeeper.
Surviving are her husband, Bernice L. Dyess of Claxton; one sister, Evelyn Turner of Ocala, Fl.; one sister-in-law, Kitty Plyler of Claxton; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 18, 2:00 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Huling officiating. Burial was at Brewton cemetery in Hagan.
Pallbearers were Stephen Bell, Andy Todd, Lex Dyess, Tommy Sapp, Mitch Dyess, and Scott Hayes.

Mary Sue Kicklighter Roper
Mary Sue Kicklighter (Lukie) Roper, 72, of Melbourne, Florida, died at her son’s residence in Jacksonville, Florida, on January 16, 2001. Born in Collins, she was the wife of the late John H. Roper. She was the daughter of the late Lucius Hilton Kicklighter and Annie Mae Mulling. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Melbourne Florida. She was a graduate of Claxton High School in 1945. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Martha Washington Chapter in Claxton.
Surviving are her sister Marjorie Rogers of Claxton; a daughter, Peggy Williams of Gainesville, Florida; two sons, Charles Luke Roper of Melbourne and John Kenneth Roper of Jacksonville, six grandchildren, Mary Lee, John, and Mason Williams; Michael Roper; and Katie and Clay Roper.
She will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 26 at Eastside Baptist Church in Claxton. Burial for Mary and her husband John will follow in Toccoa Georgia on January 27. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32257.
