Wallace Harold Denton
Wallace Harold Denton, 81, died Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native lived in Savannah for 45 years before moving to Evans County in 1990. He was retired from Chatham Area Transit after 28 years. He was of Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Nannie Kate Massey Denton of Hagan; one step-daughter and son-in-law, Jeanelle and Larry Sikes of Hagan; one sister, Thelma Godbee of Manassas; five step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 22, 11 a.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Cawthon and the Rev. David Hagan officiating. Burial was in Brewton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry Godbee, Roy Godbee, Paul Godbee, Don Denton, Jerry Denton, and Chuck Gillenwater.

Mildred S. Rogers
Mildred S. Rogers, 73, died Friday, May 28 at Candler Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. Mrs. Rogers was an active member of Sikes Chapel United Methodist Church. She retired after serving 27 years as postmistress of the Bellville Post Office.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Lawton H. Rogers; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Rogers of Bellville, Nancy and Jimmy Williamson of Bellville and Patty and Kenny Norman of Savannah; four grandchildren, Brandy and Laura Williamson of Bellville and Shaun and Heather Norman of Savannah; one great-grandchild, Nicholas; two sisters, Margaret Paulin of Savannah and Jackie Murray of Statesboro; three brothers, Floyd Sapp of Lyons, Erie Sapp of Claxton and Jimmy Sapp of Statesboro; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 31, 11 a.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel in Claxton with the Rev. Jerry Petrea officiating.
Remembrances may be sent to American Cancer Society, 4425 Hwy. 280, Claxton, Ga. 30417 or Sikes Chapel United Methodist Church, Hwy. 169, Claxton, Ga. 30417.

Lillian Moseley Barrow
Lillian Moseley Barrow, 93, died May 29 at Westview Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Evans County, and a member of the Old Anderson Primitive Baptist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Barrow and her daughter, Ora Lee Jones.
Surviving are one brother, Ernest Moseley of Lyons; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1, 11 a.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with the Eld. Harold Burnsed officiating. Burial was in Anderson Cemetery.

Edna K. Walea
Edna K. Walea, 83, died Friday, May 28. Born in Jenkins County, Mrs. Walea had lived in Garden City since 1960. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City where she had formerly taught the Sunshine Sunday School Class, was a member of the Libby Tyner Sunday School Class, sang in the choir and was active in the church organizations. Mrs. Walea graduated from Georgia Southern College and taught fourth and fifth grades in Jenkins County, Pooler, Bloomingdale and Sprague Elementary in Garden City. She was a member of the Chatham Association of Educators, the Georgia Association of Educators and the National Association of Educators.
Mrs. Walea was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Walea and a grandson, Ladd Blissett.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, James and Sue Anderson Walea of Garden City; daughter and son-in-law, Sondra W. and Charlie Blissett of Smyrna; two grandchildren and spouses, Kimberly and Louis Gatch of Calhoun, James E. and Karen Tootle Walea Jr. of Garden City, and Christi S. Walea of Garden City; great-grandchildren, Chandler Abigaile and Langston Gatch, all of Calhoun, Jayden Claire and Saige Evan Walea, all of Garden City; three brothers, Bruce Kent of Richland, Wa., Tyrus Kent of Fayetteville and Rex Kent of Warner Robins; one sister, Ida Davis of Covington; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2 at the First Baptist Church of Garden City. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances may be given to the First Baptist Church of Garden City Organ Fund, 35 Nelson Ave. Garden City, Ga. 31408.

Kenneth Delwood Eason
Kenneth Delwood Eason, 82, died Thursday, July 29 at Evans Memorial Hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of Evans County. He was a member of Eason Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felton and Fannie Eason.
Surviving are four brothers, William F., Henry, Robert, and Michael ‘Shine’ Eason, all of Claxton; two sisters, Hilda Anderson of Bellville and Marion Gay of Lilburn; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 31, 11 a.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with the Eld. Jimmy Haire and the Rev. Charles Fiveash officiating. Burial was in Eason Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael, Lloyd, and Eric Eason, Craig Gay, David Anderson, Brian Odum, Joel Eason and Wayne Kitchens.

Arnold Boyett
Arnold Boyett, 61, died Thurday, July 29 at his residence in Brandon, Fla. The Chatham County native was a member of Trinity Church in Bellville. He retired as a MSgt. in the Air Force after 26 years. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He has lived in Florida for the past 24 years.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Joy Boyett of Brandon, Fla.; one daughter, Michelle Tomlinson of Plant City, Fla.; one brother, Grady Boyett of Claxton; five sisters, Juanita Ferguson of Savannah, Patricia Rountree of Louisville, Earnal Moser of Claxton, Carolyn Winskie of Ellabell and Sue Todd of Port Wentworth; three grandchildren, Michael and Chandler Tomlinson and Joseph Pascual; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 1, 2 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Bradley officiating. Burial was in Simon-Smith cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers were Barry Tomlinson, Chris Rountree, Brian Bartner, Jody Lee, Anthony Lee and Hubie Saunders.

Harry C. Waters
Harry C. Waters, 84, passed away August 1 at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born in Bryan County, Ga., the son of Arthur A. and Minnie Lee DeLoach Waters.
He moved to Jacksonville, Fla. from Daisy in 1942. For over 25 years he owned and operated Arlington Nursery and Garden Center. He also retired from CSX Railroad in 1984. He was an avid gardener and spent his last years growing and hybridizing daylilies.
He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony H. Waters.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine (Pat) Durrence Waters; two daughters and a son-in-law, Harriet Waters, Cynthia L. Waters and Jerry Ingle; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kathleen Waters and Joseph and Lorraine Waters; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Eutice A. Waters; three sisters, Jacqueline Johnson, Keturah Hodges and Janie Moore; two sisters-in-law, Helen (Bud) Hodges and Ann Strickland and her husband Virgil.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 6 from 1:30 p.m. until service time.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 6, 2:30 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Gordy officiating. Burial will be in Bull Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bull Creek Baptist Church cemetery Fund, Attn: Gwen Strickland, 1422 Mittie Strickland Rd., Claxton, Ga. 30417.

Cohen Donaldson ‘Don’ Jones
Cohen Donaldson ‘Don’ Jones, 64, died September 29 at his residence after a short illness. The Evans County native received his early education in Claxton prior to attending the Georgia Military Academy in College Park where he attained the honor rank of band captain. Upon his graduation in 1958, he entered Auburn University where he was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity and official school photographer.
After returning to Claxton he was vice president for Mansion Line, Inc. An active member of the community, he served as fire chief of the Claxton Volunteer Fire Department and also an instructor of the Georgia Fire Academy. Mr. Jones was past president of the Claxton Jaycees, an active volunteer with the Evans County chapter of the American Red Cross and team photographer of the Claxton High School Athletic program.
In 1976 Mr. Jones assumed a position with the American Red Cross and later retired as administrator director of blood services for its South Atlantic Region in Savannah. Mr. Jones operated his own independent construction company, Quality Home Services.
He was an active member of the Coastal Scottish Heritage Society, serving as a past president and commissioner of Clan Hamilton. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Laura A. Jones of Atlanta; one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Diane Jones of Brunswick; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sally and Charles Tanner of Claxton and Alyce and Gene Lewis of Augusta; four nieces and nephews, Dorothy T. Anderson of Statesboro, Quinn Tanner and his wife, Fran of Claxton, Matt Lewis and Alison Lewis of Augusta; one aunt, Mrs. William F. Summerell of Savannah; several cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 4, 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Claxton. Burial was at Bonaventure cemetery in Savannah.
Honorary pallbearers were Coastal Scottish Heritage Society.

William Jerry Dees Sr.
William Jerry Dees Sr., died September 23 in Salem, Missouri. He was born February 6, 1950 in Claxton and was united in married
August 8, 1995.
Jerry served in the United State Army during the Vietnam War as a sergeant. He was very proud of his military career and the many medals and honors that he had received. Jerry enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He had a love for children, people and especially his family. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Jerry will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father Rufus ‘Buddy’ Dees and three brothers, Tommy, Randall and Jimmy Dees.
Surviving are his wife, Crystal Dees of Salem, MO; five children, Tonya Blanton and husband Carey of Jesup, Jerry Dees Jr. of Salem, Kristina James and husband Eric of Salem, Ben White and wife, Dana of Minnesota, Philip White and wife Lisa of Salem; his mother, Linnie Dees of Glennville; one brother, Ray Dees of Claxton; two sisters, Betty Wildes of Claxton and Debbie Jenkins of Glennville; a special aunt, Alvena; several nieces and nephews, and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, September 29, 11 a.m. at Brewton cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Harn officiating.

Jordan Picklesimer
Jordan Elizabeth Picklesimer, infant daughter of Neil and Heather Towl Picklesimer, of Turtletown, died Nov. 23, 2002 in the Bradley Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include sister Cassie Picklesimer; maternal grandparents Ronald and Naomi Towl of Farner, Tenn.; and paternal grandparents Alma and the late Wade Picklesimer of Turtletown.
Funeral services were conducted Nov. 27, at 11 a.m. from the Turtletown Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Harper officiating. Russell Towl and Nathan Picklesimer served as pallbearers. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill was in charge of the arrangements.
