Mr. Leland Preston Hendrix

Statesboro, Ga.

Mr. Leland Preston Hendrix, age 75, died Tuesday evening at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Hendrix worked as a mechanic with Motor Parts CO. for many years and retired from the City of Statesboro Sanitation Department after many years of service. Mr. Hendrix currently worked with GT Auto Supply. He was a member of the Clito Baptist Church where he was a deacon. Mr. Hendrix was a member of the American Legion Post 90 in Statesboro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carleen Beasley Hendrix.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Hendrix Hartsfield of Savannah and Deborah Hendrix Bowers and Kenneth of Springfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney Preston and Judy Hendrix of Ellabell; seven grandchildren, Craig Hartsfield of Savannah, Tasia Oglesby of Garden City, Nicki Sellers of Statesboro, Brett Lucke of Springfield, Rodney Hendrix, Jr. of Blooingdale, Gloria Hilbert of Germany and Harmony Watts of Savannah; a brother, Donald Hendrix of Statesboro and seven great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Hulsey officiating.

Burial will be in the Hendrix Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Craig Hartsfield, Brett Lucke, Lee Hendrix, Greg Hendrix, Lane Oglesby, Kevin Phillips, Les Spence and Jeff Spence.

Honorary pallbearers will be James and Betty Moncus and the Deacons of the Clito Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Clito Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1450, Statesboro, Ga. 30459.

Mrs. Mary Ellen M. Clark

Statesboro, Ga.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Mitchum Clark, age 89, died Thursday morning after a brief illness. Mrs. Clark was born in Berkley S. C. on January 2, 1915 to Thomas and Eliza Wells Mitchum. She was the last of 13 children. Mrs. Clark was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Statesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymon Clark Sr. and her son Merle Clark.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law; Shirlee and Edgar Deal of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law Raymon Jr. and Sandra Clark of Portal; Four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Clark will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Raymon Clark III, Michael Clark, Russell Jackson Deal, Merle Clark, Michael Green and Frankie Green.

Steven Phillips

Statesboro, Ga.

Mr. Steven Anthony Phillips, age 21, died Friday. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was employed with Viracon as a Glass Technician. He was of the Baptist faith and had attended Temple Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife Leslie Bruce Phillips of Statesboro; twin daughters, Taylor and Learic Phillips of Statesboro; his parents, Debra Chaffin Phillips and Billy Phillips of Statesboro; a sister, Jenny Burgin of Statesboro; maternal grandparents, Charles and Martha Chaffin of Brooklet; paternal grandparents, Merle and Billy Phillips of Statesboro and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Benjamin and Thelma Bruce of Statesboro. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Graveside services and burial will be held Saturday at 2:00pm at the Brooklet City Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wade Burgin, Daniel Cook, Beau Tanner, Benitez Walker, Dennis Howard and Bucky Lariscey.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. C.B. Brannen

Statesboro, Ga.

Mr. Charlie Brooks (C.B.) Brannen, age 87, died Monday evening at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was a retired car salesman serving many years with Franklin Chevrolet and Martin-Ansley Cadillac Oldsmobile. Mr. Brannen was a member of the Clito Baptist Church, the Billy Tillman Pondhouse Group and the Franklin Hagin Crowd. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Brannen was preceded in death by a son James Robert Brannen.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Marjorie B. Brannen of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Jeanette Brannen of Statesboro; two daughters and a son-in-law, June B. and Raymond Waters of Brooklet and Cindy B. Hunter of Norris, TN.; eight grandchildren, Lisa Andrus, Lynne Prince, Travis Brannen, Leslie Brannen, Michael Waters, Erin Adams and Matthew Waters all of Statesboro and Jarrod Hunter of Norris, TN.; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Hulsey officiating.

Burial will be in the Eastside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Lucas, Charles Jones, Jim Anderson, Lynn Waters, Curtis Brannen and Roger Brannen.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Billy Tillman Pondhouse Group and the Franklin Hagin Crowd.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dorothy Holland

Mrs. Dorothy Jeanne Parrish Holland, age 73, died Wednesday evening at her residence. Born in Hahira, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Carson Elton and Jewell Bennett Parrish. She moved to Valdosta as a child and to California in 1951. In 1987, she and her husband, the late John Daniel Holland, moved to Atlanta, GA .While living in Atlanta she worked as an accountant for Kraft Foods until her retirement. In 1996 she and her husband moved to Pensacola, Fl. to be near her daughter and grandson. Mrs. Holland was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pensacola where she was a member of the Helping Hands. She was a volunteer for the Sacred Heart Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Neal Carson Parrish and Richard Clifton Parrish.

Surviving are a daughter, Judy Alexander of Pensacola; a grandson, Isaac Parker of Pensacola; two brothers, Charles Neal Parrish of FL and Ansel Eugene Parrish of Pelham, GA. and a sister, Alice Parrish Springer of Sunnydale, CA.

Graveside services and burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Lower Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Pensacola First Baptist Church, 500 N. Palafox, Pensacola, FL 32501.

Mrs. Lavinia McRae Shader

Statesboro, Ga.

Mrs. Lavinia McRae Shader, age 85, died Saturday January 29, 2005 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. For the past five years, she has been cared for by the loving staff of the Heritage Inn and Rehabilitation Center. A Statesboro resident since 1963, she was retired from Statesboro High School where she worked in the Guidance Office. She was a member of the St. Matthews Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her two sons; George B. Hanson, Jr., and James Edward “Buddy” Hanson.

Surviving is her husband of 43 years, Raymond Joseph Shader of Statesboro; her daughter Lavinia “Cookie” Hanson of Orlando Fl., her stepdaughter, Kristy Shader of Ft. Walton Beach FL, two stepsons and their wives; Ted and Joyce Shader of Cincinnati Ohio, and Mike and Elanor Shader of Morrisville Vermont; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Shader will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Grady Walden officiating.

Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Earl King Underwood

Mr. Earl King Underwood, age 67, died Saturday morning at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was a retired mobile home installer and electrician. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. Mr. Underwood was a member of the New Bethel Pentecostal Church.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Ann Underwood of Statesboro; three sons and daughters-in-law, Earl D. and Connie Underwood of Stafford, VA., John P. and Frances Underwood of Statesboro and Robert W. and Charlene Underwood of Rincon; three sisters, Shirley Williams of Rincon, Oree Wright of Marietta and Jeanette Underwood of Savannah; seven brothers, Bill Underwood of Starke, FL., Eddey Underwood of Claxton, Robert Underwood of Savannah, Johnny Underwood of Brooklet, Hubert Underwood of Savannah, Richard Underwood of Rincon and Earnest Underwood of Fortsville; 5 Grandchildren, Kevin Underwood, Robert Earl Underwood, Alexander Underwood, Selah Underwood and Esther Underwood; five step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Childress officiating.

Burial will be in the Oak Grove Church of God Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Wayne C. Newland

Statesboro, Ga

Mr. Wayne Clarence Newland, age 57, died Wednesday at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. The Bismark, North Dakota native graduated from Bismark Highschool in 1965 and was a graduate of Con Edison Electrical School in New York. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving two tours during the Vietnam War where he served with the Sea Bees Unit. Mr. Newland was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Newland moved to Statesboro in 1970 and was employed with Y-Delta Inc. for many years as a Project Manager.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Joanne Smith Newland of Statesboro; three sons, Brian Newland of Savannah, David Newland of Statesboro and Chris Newland of Statesboro; his parents, Clarence and Ruby Newland of Orlando, Fl.; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Mike Smith and their son Austin of Orlando, Fl.; two brothers in law and a sister in law also survive.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 3:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elder Steve Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Mrs. Hubert L. Mazie Newton

Statesboro, Ga.

Mrs. Hubert L. (Mazie) Newton, age 88, died Thursday morning at East Georgia Regional Medical Center after a long illness. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was born April 14th, 1916 to the late J. Elbert and Eva Proctor Webb. She was a graduate of Statesboro High School, class of 1933 and a member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Newton and her husband Hubert owned and operated H & M Grocery which later became Newton Sport Shop for over thirty-five years. Mazie’s greatest loves were cooking and baking for her family, spending time with them and reading . Mrs. Newton will be fondly remembered as having a special way of making everyone feel welcomed in her home. She was proceed in death by her husband, Hubert L. Newton, a sister, Mildred Webb Smith and her husband Emory B. Smith, a brother Roger Webb and his wife Creseta N. Webb.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Donna N. and Mike Mull and one granddaughter, Christy Eva Mull, all of Statesboro. A nephew, Roger Webb, Jr., his wife Glennis and their daughter Amanda Webb all of Spartanburg, S.C. who considered Mazie a grandmother. Several nieces and nephews survive in Jacksonville, Florida, Statesboro, Atlanta and Marshall, Georgia . Two close friends, Doris Mosley and Voncile Hobbs both of Statesboro also survive.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Eastside cemetery with Chaplain Ed Wolfe officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ray Classens, Johnny Bradley, Ed Wolfe, Jody Wiggins, Danny Newton and Patrick Newton.

Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 p.m.. until 8:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the SCV-OREL Scholarship Fund, 17111 Rich Street Griffin, Ga. 30223.
