Mr. Mark Richard Hooley, age 46, died Wednesday February 16, 2005 at his residence following a brief illness. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a pipe fitter with McDevitt Heating and Air in Savannah. He graduated from Howie Academy in Orlando FL. and attended Georgia Southern University. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Daniel S. Hooley.
Surviving are his beloved wife Rita Corpas of Statesboro and their daughter Angel; his mother, Adele Hooley of Statesboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Donna Hooley and their son Danny; two sisters, Ellen Hooley and son Matthew and Laura Anderson and her son Joseph.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:00pm at the Statesboro First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Minter officiating.
The body will lie-in-state for one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Eastside Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm until 7:30pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Martin Jones
Statesboro, Ga.
Mrs. Mary Ellen Martin Jones, age 65, died Tuesday at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center after a long illness. The Pennsylvania native moved to Statesboro in 1957.
She was the secretary for Rockwell for several years. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of the St. Mathews Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Martin.
Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Bobby Jones of Statesboro; a special aunt, Joe Rothrauff of Pittsburg, PA.; a special cousin, Leroy Rothrauff of Santee, S.C.; several cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating.
Burial will be in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will Shane Sheffield, Ashley Jones, Steve Pennington, Dustin Jones, Cody Sparks and Mark Anderson.

Mrs. Sara Daughtry Aycock, age 82, died Friday at her residence. The native and life-long resident of Bulloch County was a homemaker and a member of Portal Baptist Church. She was known for her love of animals and will be missed by the number of strays she lovingly cared for. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry D. Aycock, her parents, Jacob E. and Minnie Holland Daughtry, and by a brother, Harold Daughtry.
Surviving are a niece, Sara Van Hoogan (Bill) of Tampa, Florida; a nephew, Joe Daughtry (Emma) of Lake City, Florida; a brother, Marcelle Thompson (Bobbie) of Statesboro; additional nieces, Sara D. McClain (Randy) of Lake City, Merilea D. Vinton (William) of Lake City, Florida, Debbie T. Roberts (Don) of Statesboro and Jan S. Haggins (Tendai) of Portal; additional nephews, Elwood Thompson (Rita) of Garfield, Craig Thompson (DeeDee) of Statesboro and Jacob Daughtry (Sherry) of Boca Raton, Florida; special friends, Helen Carter and family, Marge T. Stephens, Mildred B. Colley and family, and Ora Lee Edenfield, all of Portal; and her beloved pets, Little Girl, Lady and Thomas.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Aycock will be held Monday at 2:00 pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Bob G. Conley officiating, assisted by Rev. Maurice Crowder and Rev. Don Berry.
Burial will be in Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Raymond J. "Ray" Shader
Statesboro, GA
Mr. Raymond Joseph “Ray” Shader, age 82, died Friday at Heritage Inn in Statesboro after a long struggle with heart disease. He was born in Kingston, New York on January 5, 1923. He began a career in radio broadcasting as an announcer at the age 18 in Dalton, Georgia, and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a radioman. At the end of the war he returned to civilian life and worked in California and throughout the country as a radio broadcaster before settling in Statesboro in 1963. It was in Statesboro that Mr. Shader met his wife of 43 years, Lavina McRae Shader, who preceded him in death by just a few months. For many years Mr. Shader was the preeminent news broadcaster of Statesboro and the surrounding Bulloch County area working with WWNS/WMCD radio, tirelessly covering the local news stories and civic issues important to the citizens of the area. He was a much admired and respected asset to the city and received a citation of merit from the Statesboro Police Department and a commendation by the Mayor and City Council for his accurate and responsive news reporting. He was active in many civic organizations in years past, and served in various capacities with the local Masonic Lodge, having been a long time admirer of their work with their Children’s Hospital.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Florez of Beaumont, California and Kristy Shader of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; two sons, Michael Shader of Morrisville, Vermont and Ted Shader of Cincinnati, Ohio; a step-daughter, Lavinia “Cookie” Hanson of Orlando, Florida; a brother, Stephen Shader of Birmingham, Alabama; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Shader will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 am until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

Mr. Arthur J. Vornbaum, age 82, died Monday morning at the Statesboro Nursing Home. The New Jersey native lived in Savannah for several years before moving to Statesboro in 2000. He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor. Mr. Vornbaum was preceded in death by his wife Thelma Rollison Vornbaum.
Surviving are a niece, Nancy Panzanna of Linden, NJ and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Raymond and Eloise Rollison of Lyons.
Graveside services and burial will be Wednesday at 11:00am at the Ohoopee cemetery in Lyons.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Ernest D. Newton, age 88, died Saturday morning at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mr. Newton was a native of Bulloch County where he lived for several years before moving to Savannah for 40 years. He returned to Statesboro several years ago. He retired from Union Camp and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Savannah.
Surviving are his son, Dentley Newton of Statesboro; a daughter, Shirley Ann Shaw of Seattle, Washington; two sisters, Neva Akins and Sara Nell Barfield both of Statesboro; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00am in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. James Barnes officiating.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1:00pm at Hillcrest Abbey East in Savannah.

Mr. Remer E. Dasher, age 87, died March 26, 2005.

Mr. Homer “Richard” Phillips, age 67, died Wednesday March 23, 2005 at his residence
under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Trumble County Ohio native had lived in Savannah for several years before moving to Brooklet 13 years ago. Mr. Phillips was retired from Gulfstream Aerospace after many years of service. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Nevils. Mr. Phillips was a Mason and a member of the Landrum Lodge #48 and a past Worthy Patron of the Palestine Chapter #249 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Tapley Berry Phillips of Brooklet; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Stephen Clark of Pooler and Darlene and Tom Miller of Stathem, Ga.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tony Berry of Springfield and Mark and Kim Berry of Statesboro; three granddaughters, Nicole Fayville of Savannah, Marcey Clark of Pooler and Darby Tippit of Stathem; a grandson, Nolan Berry of Statesboro; his mother, Marie Phillips of Warren OH; three sisters, Nancy Tackett and Joanne Barrow of Ohio and Dottie Hardwick of Kentucky; several aunts uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00am in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Eason officiating, assisted by Rev. Chris Roberson.

Mrs. Ida Lewis Collins, age 84, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Heritage Inn after an extended illness. The Emanuel County native had lived most of her adult life in Bulloch County. Mrs. Collins graduated from Swainsboro High School and attended Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University). She was a member of Statesboro First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School class. Mrs. Collins and her husband, C. D., spent many long, rewarding years employed as family counselors at Willingway Hospital. They faithfully ministered to innumerable families by aiding them to recover from alcohol and drug addiction.
Survivors include her husband Clifford Douglas Collins (C.D.) and four children: Sunni C. Moore (Thomas), Sharron D.Thackston, and C. Doug Collins, III (Neely) all of Statesboro and David L. Collins of Atlanta, Georgia. A grandson, Thomas Lee Moore IV and a sister, Lucille C. Hagins preceded her in death. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Christopher A. Jones, Matthew D. Moore, C. Danielle Donaldson, Carly D. Collins, C. Doug Collins, IV, Catherine D. Collins, and Isabella N. Collins. Also three great-grand children: Morgan Donaldson and Sarah and Abigail Jones.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. H. William Perry officiating assisted by Dr. Al Mooney.
The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the funeral service.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Christopher Jones, Matthew Moore, Doug Collins IV, and also Stephen Taylor, Dr. Robert Mooney, and Roy Thompson.
