John Alan Burkhalter, 45, life long resident of Atlanta prior to moving to Comer in 2000, passed away on December 10, 2004. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Atlanta and was employed by the University of Georgia.
He is survived by his parents, Claire and Bob Snyder; his sister and brother-in-law, Trudy and Kirk McCleskey; nephews, Matthew, Benjamin and Mark McCleskey; nieces, Madeline and Bridget McCleskey.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 18, 2004 at the City of Colbert cemetery at 3:30 p.m. with a reception following at the home of his parents in Brush Creek, Colbert, GA.

Carolyn W. "Mickey Sapp" Findley
Stilson, GA
Mrs. Carolyn W. “Mickey Sapp” Findley, age 69, died Thursday at her residence after a long battle with cancer under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice and her loving family. The Montgomery County native lived most of her life in Bulloch County, moving here in 1960.Carolyn retired after 38 years as an assistant vice president with Sea Island Bank. She was a member of Old Fellowship Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Georgia Power Ambassadors, the American Women’s Business Association and the University Optimist Club. During her lifetime she served as an inspiration to many who knew her and an angel to more. Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Norman R. Sapp, her mother, Mrs. Nettie Joyce, and a brother, Earl Walker.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen and her husband Mike Barnard of Sylvester, Kim P. Boyles of Stilson and Gwendolyn Phea of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren, Lee Phillips, Kristy Barnard, Stephen Wrenn, Jr., Andrew Boyles and Shawn Barnard; and one great-grandson, Jakob Rice, her current husband, Billy Findley of Jesup and two step-daughters, Debbie Jeffers of Middleburg, Fl. and Faith Vincent of Summerville, SC.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Dr. Reland Morgan and Dr. John Parker officiating.
Burial will be in the Old Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rollie Geiger, Joey Bath, Tommy Bath, Lee Jackson, Tracy Miller, Chris Adams and Stephen Bath.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Edward Blitch, Buie Miller, Clinton Murray, Larry Jackson, James Bath, Roger Parker, Charles Phillips and Mark Boyles.

Mr. James B. Lanier, Sr.
Brooklet, GA
Mr. James B. Lanier, Sr., age 90, died Wednesday at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mr. Lanier was born in Brooklet, the son of the late Carl B. and Maude Bennett Lanier. He was a 1932 graduate of Brooklet High School and attended Georgia Normal School (Georgia Southern University). Mr. Lanier retired from Savannah Electric and Power Company after many years of service and was a member of the Brooklet United Methodist Church. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his years of retirement spending time with his friends, family, fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister, and granddaughter.
Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years, Mrs. Rae Minick Lanier of Brooklet, two daughters and sons-in-law, Madge L. and Dr. Joe Edwards, Jr. of Savannah, Carlyle L. and Dr. Raul Buelvas, Sr. of Savannah, one son and daughter-in-law, James B. and Beverly Lanier of Brooklet; six grandsons, Dr. Joe Edwards III, Dr. Ben Edwards, Dr. Raul Buelvas, Jr. all of Savannah, Jim Lanier, Jerry Lanier and Joe Lanier all of Statesboro, two granddaughters, Becky Nowicki and Suzy Buelvas, both of Savannah. Ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Reverend Wes Moye officiating.
Burial will be in the Brooklet City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Robert E. Lewis, Jr.
1931-2005
Robert E. Lewis, Jr., 74, of Chesterfield Road, Bogart, GA, died on April 18, 2005.
A native of Southport, NC, Mr. Lewis was the son of the late Robert E. and Inez McGinn Lewis. A graduate of Elon College where he attended on a football scholarship, Mr. Lewis was a stock broker and had an extended career as a manager at Robinson Humphrey Company. Mr. Lewis served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps for 7 years, was a past Director of the Athens-Clarke County Republican Party, was a member of Athens Country Club and a member of St. Stephens Anglican Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean T. Blackstone of Bogart; children, Barbara Ann Lewis of Jonesville, SC, Robert Conley Lewis, of Homossa, FL, Linda Lewis Leger of The Woodlands, TX, Thomas M. Lewis of Atlanta; stepchildren, Lisa B. Blackstone of Alpharetta and Jeff T. Blackstone of Monroe; sisters, Evelyn R. Porter of Atlanta and Tina Lewis Wood of Wilmington, NC; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday April 20 at St. Stephens Anglican Church with Bishop Mark Haverland and Father John Catteral officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Arlington Memorial Park cemetery in Atlanta at 3 pm with Dr. Bill Self officiating.

Jackie Ray Coffey

Mr. Jackie Ray Coffey, age 62, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. He was born on December 12, 1948 in Atlanta, Georgia; he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Odell and Sara Lou Blair Coffey.
Mr. Coffey is survived by his loving wife Mrs. Wanda Wallin Coffey; daughters, Tonya Sparkman and Tina Trudell; son, Anthony Ray Coffey; brothers, Timothy Coffey and Mike Coffey and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Coffey is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Sue Coffey and brother, Odell Coffey.
The funeral arrangements for Mr. Coffey will be conducted on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at two o’clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Britt Madden, Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Ann Ray Morgan
Statesboro, GA
Mrs. Ann Ray Morgan, age 86, died Wednesday at her residence under the care of her family and VistaCare Hospice. The native of Savannah, GA graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1934, St. Vincent’s Academy in 1938 and the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1941. Mrs. Morgan was a registered nurse for more than 30 years before retiring from St. Joseph’s as the Associate Director of Nursing in 1975. She served as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II as a nurse. Mrs. Morgan moved to Statesboro in the 1980’s and was a member of the St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. She was a volunteer for Joseph’s Home for Boys, and the Auxiliary Service for Bulloch Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband John B. Morgan Jr.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons in law, Cornelia M. and Patrick Mechley of Cincinnati, OH, Mary M. and Bob Lemon of Canton, MI and Helen Waters of Savannah; five sons and four daughters in law, John B. and Michele Morgan of Austin TX, William C. Morgan of Statesboro, Henry G. and Sherry Marie Morgan of Pt. Arthur, TX, Reid B. and Sherry Morgan of Statesboro and Charles B. and Connie Morgan of Brooklet GA; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Morgan will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Catholic Church with Father David Stachurski officiating.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure cemetery in Savannah at 2:00 pm on Saturday.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, GA.

Mrs. Rachel Candice Keel Heaston (Candi) age 24, died Tuesday from injuries received in an automobile accident. The Bulloch County native was home schooled. Candi had a love for beatuy pageants and had won many titles including, Miss Turpentine Festival, Miss Bulloch County, Brooklet Peanut Festival Queen and Miss Diamond USA. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her nephew and nieces, Gabriel Chapa, Seage Keel and Taryn, Morgan and Sarah Heaston. Candi attended the Friendship Baptist Church in Statesboro. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Sam and Lavern Rushing.
Surviving are her husband, James R. Heaston of Statesboro; her mother and step father, Cindy R. and Doug Butler of Metter; her father, Kenny Keel of Statesboro; a brother, Kirk Keel of Metter; a sister Chasity Keel of Metter; paternal grandparents, Roy and Shirley Keel of Statesboro; father in law, John Heaston of Jacksonville, FL; sister in law and brother in law, Dawn and Edward Duda of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Katherine Chatham Compton, 81, of Athens, GA died January 31, 2005. Mrs. Compton was a native of Comer, GA and member of Meadow Baptist Church.
Katherine (Kat) had a thirty five year career in Cosmetology. She was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Athens Elks Club. She was awarded Georgia Elk “Volunteer of the Year” in 1995-96 for her work with the Georgia War Veterans and the Elk Aidmore Children Center. She had also been active with the Salvation Army and other charitable groups. She had the distinction of being awarded “Paul Harris Fellow” of Rotary International.
Surviving are her husband, Paul Allen Compton; children and their spouses, son, Allen Norward Compton and Ashley O. Compton of Atlanta; Daughter, Karen Compton Benton and Thomas Benton of Jefferson; grandchildren, Jeff and Gena Farrell, Zack Tyler Evans, Chip and Jennifer Duncan, Babbette and Scott Kielar; great-grandchildren, Alex Duncan, Abby Duncan and Gavin Kielar.
The family will be receiving friends and family Wednesday, February 2, from 5-8 pm at Bernstein Funeral Home, Thursday February 3, the body will lie in state from 10-11 am at Meadow Baptist Church, Comer GA, where the family will receive friends. The service is 11 am Thursday at Meadow Baptist Church, 6158 Hwy 191 Comer, GA 30629.

Goldie Louise Runyon
(September 15, 1924 - June 1, 2011)
Ms. Goldie Louise Runyon, age 86, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, June 01, 2011. She was born on September 15, 1924 in Sally Saw, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Calvin and Mable Marie McCracken Runyon.
Ms. Runyon is survived by sisters, Athlen Vinson, Emma Jean Voyles and Phyllis Rollons; brothers, Frankie Runyon, Cecil Runyon and Phillip Runyon and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Ms. Runyon is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Opal Smith and Mary Forrester and brothers, John Runyon and David Runyon.
In keeping with Ms. Runyon’s wishes she was cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
