Mr. Robert Summerlin, age 45, lost his battle with cancer Sunday at Hospice Savannah surrounded by his family and loved ones. A resident of the Savannah area for the last eight years, he spent most of his life in Albany and Brunswick, GA. He was employed with Dillon Transportation Inc. He was preceded in death by his father G.H. Summerlin and his mother Gladys Summerlin.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Patti Graham Summerlin; two sons James Robert (Bobby) Summerlin, Kristofer Summerlin, a daughter Kristin Summerlin; four grandchildren Jazmin Summerlin, Christopher Summerlin, Chassady Summerlin, Nicolas Summerlin all of Ellabell, as well as a grandson on the way; four brothers Fred Summerlin, Ray Summerlin, Lonnie Summerlin of Leesburg, GA, Charles Summerlin of Dawson, GA; two sisters Mary Clark of Albany, GA, Diane Combs of Stockbridge, GA; he had 11 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Summerlin will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Slaughter officiating.
Entombment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Coy Ellenwood, age 96, died Tuesday at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center following a long illness. The Tattnall County native was raised in Collins, GA, and moved to Savannah Georgia where he was employed with the Shipyard for many years. Mr. Ellenwood moved to Reidsville following his retirement and remained there until moving to Statesboro in 1992 due to his failing health where he was a resident of Sunbridge Health and Rehabilitation. He attended Mt. Carmel Methodist Church. Mr. Ellenwood was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Moore Ellenwood.
Surviving are a son and daughter in law, Charles and Joanne Ellenwood of Statesboro; a granddaughter, Heather Pedrick of McDonough and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be held Friday at 11:00am at the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church cemetery in Reidsville.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

David Stanley Hardigree, 55, of 72 North Pine Drive, Ellijay, passed away Wednesday December 8, 2004.
A native of Decatur, Mr. Hardigree was a son of Sidney Curtis Hardigree and the late Edna Grace Holiday Hardigree. He was a graduate of Augusta College with a BA in Economics and a graduate of Augusta Law School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in the Vietnam conflict. He retired from Georgia Power as a Senior Field Auditor. He was preceded in death by his sister, Julie Ann Helm.
Survivors in addition to his father are a daughter, Heather Anne Hardigree Eberheart of Martinez and a brother Richard Hardigree of Athens.
Funeral Services will be held 4:00 pm Friday, December 10, 2004 in Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Matthew Waldrop officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Friday prior to the services. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Mrs. Melba Mixon Roberts
Statesboro, Ga.
Mrs. Melba Mixon Roberts, age 84, died Monday evening at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County owned and operated Payless Grocery Store in Statesboro with her husband for many years. She retired in 1999 from the Bulloch County Tax Commissioner’s office as a clerk after many years of service. Mrs. Roberts attended the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Statesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie A. Roberts.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter in law, Thomas A. and Tamsen Roberts of Houston, TX and Carroll C. Roberts of Statesboro; a sister, Merle Sparks of Portal; brother and sisters in law, Mrs. Emit C. Deal of Statesboro, Mrs. Tommy Cowan of Statesboro, Mrs. Floyd Roberts of Portal and Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Roberts of Statesboro.; three grandsons, Justin. W. Roberts of Statesboro, Sean T. Roberts of Houston, TX and Ryan M. Roberts of Houston, TX and a granddaughter, Madison N. Roberts of Houston, TX. Many friends, nieces and nephews also survive.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00pm at the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Scott officiating, assisted by Elder Jack Anderson.
Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Gregory “Greg” Scott McDonald, age 34, died Friday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1990 graduate of Bible Baptist. Mr. McDonald attended Liberty University and Georgia Southern University. He was a former police officer with the Statesboro Police Department where he was Rookie of the Year. Greg was currently employed with USF Holland in Metter as a Logistics Manager. He was a loving husband, father and son. Greg was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Grace Community Church in Statesboro.
Surviving are his wife Kelly Hendrix McDonald of Statesboro; two sons, Zachery Scott McDonald and Tysen Andrew McDonald both of Statesboro; his mother, Sandra McDonald of Statesboro; his father and step mother, Harley and Jeanette McDonald of Jackson; a sister and brother in law, Tracie and Tim Leep of Charles ton, West Virginia; a brother and sister in law, Timothy Paul and Maggie McDonald of Statesboro; his father in law, Jimmy Hendrix of Statesboro; his mother in law, Kay Hein of Talking Rock and his grandmother in law, Betty Rae Hendrix of Statesboro. Several aunts, uncles, cousins nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Swaine Hampton Nichols, Sr. age 55, died Saturday at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County graduated from Portal High School in 1970. Mr. Nichols was a lifelong farmer. He was a Mason, a member of the Ogeechee Lodge #213 F&AM; and the Portal Hunting Club. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Swaine loved hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Dean Nichols, Jr. and a sister Wanda Janell Nichols.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Tammie Nichols of Statesboro; a daughter and son in law, Linda Nichols Allen and Keith Allen of Hopewell, VA; a son and daughter in law, Swaine H. “Bit” Nichols Jr. and Emily Geer Nichols of Statesboro; two grandchildren, Abigail Allen and Ashley Anne Allen; his mother, Kathleen Baker Nichols of Statesboro; a sister, Linda Darnell Leon of Statesboro and a brother, Dean Nichols III of Metter. Several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends also survive.

Mr. James Morris
Adrian, GA
Mr. James Harmon Morris, age 68, died Friday at his residence in Adrian under the care of United Hospice of Swainsboro. The Bulloch County native graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School in 1956. He was an independent building contractor and retired in 2003. He was a builder of custom homes, an accomplished musician and an avid fisherman. He attended Norristown Baptist Church. Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his parents, Harmon and Ida Morris.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia R. Morris of Adrian; two sons, Gary H. Morris of Stilson and Thomas L. Sanders of Pembroke; three daughters, Donna M. Caines of Stilson, Terrie Arden of Guyton and Tammy Smith of Pembroke; a brother, W. G. Morris of Stilson and a sister, Lillian M. Akins of Savannah. Eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Dearl Deloach
Nevil’s Community
Mr. Dearl William Deloach, age 76, died Saturday at his residence. The Bulloch County native was the son of the late Winford and Blanche Futch Deloach. Mr. Deloach traveled with his military career for 20 years in the United States Army until his retirement in 1971, at which time he returned to Bulloch County. During his military service Mr. Deloach was in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a substitute mail carrier for several years and also a land developer. Mr. Deloach was a member of the American Legion Post 90 and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid fisherman. Mr. Deloach was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Deloach; three sisters, Lavern, Hazel and Emogene and three brothers, Dewain, J.H. and Perryman.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Lanier Deloach of Nevils; four step daughters and three step sons in law, Lisa and Terry Anderson of Register; Lynn and Buck Davis of Nevils, Luvell McElveen of Nevils and Lea and Jeffrey Williams of Nevils; a sister and brother in law, Crystal and James Hotchkiss of Statesboro and two brothers and sisters in law, Dean and Flory Mae Deloach of Nevils and Don and Phyllis Deloach of Bloomingdale. Ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Earle Lee Franklin
Mrs. Earle Lee Franklin, age 96, died Wednesday at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. She was born in Leefield, GA on December 10, 1909 and lived in Statesboro most of her life. Mrs. Franklin was a graduate of Georgia Teachers’ College and retired from the Bulloch County Board of Education after serving as a teacher for over 40 years. Her most recent school served was Sallie Zetterower, which she served until her retirement. Mrs. Franklin was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Leefield Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Franklin.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Bernice L. Simmons of Statesboro; a niece, Ginny L. Jones of Brooklet; two nephews, Jack A Lanier and Franklin Lee both of Brooklet and a sister in law, Sue Lane of Statesboro. Many great nieces and great nephews also survive.
Graveside services and burial will be Friday at 10:00am at the Eastside cemetery with Rev. Robert Black officiating.
The family will receive visitors at the gravesite following the service.
