Mrs. Katrine "Kate" Harris Alford
Statesboro, GA
Mrs. Katrine “Kate” Harris Alford, age 95, died Wednesday at the Statesboro Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Bulloch County native lived in Candler County for many years until returning to Statesboro in 1980. She was employed with Twin City Manufacturing as a presser for several years and was a homemaker. Mrs. Alford was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church where she was a member of the Jolly Christians and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Alford and four sons, Franklin, Johnnie, Winford and Wayne Alford.
Surviving are a son and daughter in law, Robert and Pam Alford of Denver, Colorado, eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00pm at the Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. James Barnes officiating.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
iIntermentwill be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the Friendship Baptist Church.

Mrs. Annie Mae Shuman Barton Hollingsworth
Griffin, GA
Mrs. Annie Mae Shuman Barton Hollingsworth, age 85, died Tuesday morning at her residence. The Bulloch County native lived in Savannah for many years where she worked from 1942 until retiring in1963 from Union Camp. She worked for the City of Savannah as a senior citizen center manager for six years. Mrs. Hollingsworth lived in Beaufort, SC and Augusta, GA until moving back to Bulloch County in 1980, where she remained until moving to Griffin in 1998. She was a member of the Wildwood Baptist Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by a son, James Randy Barton.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Ann Barton of Griffin; two sons and daughters in law, Elmer Larry and Helen Barton of Midway and Emory Wayne and Darlene Barton of Savannah; a brother, Robert Lee Shuman of Princeton, NC; a daughter in law, Lorraine Barton of El Paso, TX four “adopted” children, Gwen and John Hogan and Diane Belcher all of Griffin and Janet Clotfelter of Union City. Eleven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00am in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Simmons officiating.

Mr. James Benjamin " Benny" Pye

Mr. James Benjamin “Benny” Pye, age 81, died Friday at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The Screven County native lived in Bulloch County most of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He was a retired carpenter after 60 years of service. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. Mr Pye was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Molly Skrine Pye and a son, James Pye, Jr..
Surviving are a son and two daughters in law, Ralph E. and Fran Pye of Statesboro and Marilee Pye of New Orleans, LA; four grandchildren, Michael Pye of Statesboro, James Pye III (Sarah), John Pye and Jamie Pye all of Coving, LA; a former daughter in law, Lavada Pye and two brothers, Donald Pye of Richmond Hill and Onie Pye of the Atlanta area. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Evelyn Kay Crowe, age 61, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Missouri native had resided in Bulloch County the past forty-five years.
She was preceded in death by a son, Allan Blitch.
Surviving are her husband Troy Crowe of Bulloch County; two sons, Eric Allan Crowe of Bulloch County and Dewayne Blitch of Warner Robbins; one daughter, Tanya Melissa Blitch; two step-daughters, Shannon Champion of Rocky Ford and Jennifer Newman of Stilson; one sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Mingo Gonzales of Conyers; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Chapel with Reverend Carl Ledbetter officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Luella Rogers, formerly of Bentonville, Arkansas, passed away in Statesboro on August 22, 2007 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center at the age of 89. She was a beloved mother, wife, elementary school teacher, and retired employee of the University of Arkansas Office of Admissions. She received her education from the public schools of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and from Oklahoma State University.
She was preceded in death by parents Oley and Kate Weaver, husband Max Louis Rogers, and daughter Marjorie Luella Johnson. She is survived by brother Richard E. Weaver of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her son, Richard Louis Rogers, and daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Neill Rogers, of Statesboro; grandsons Eric Johnson and wife Lisa of Iowa City, Iowa, and Christopher Rogers of San Diego, California; and great-granddaughter Rachael Johnson, Iowa City, Iowa. She is also survived by one niece and three nephews.
Mrs. Rogers relocated to Statesboro in 1993 to be near her son and daughter-in-law. Soon after relocating, she resumed her long-time volunteer work with the American Red Cross. She handled all disaster and military phone calls for the Bulloch County Chapter from that time until July of this year. This was the culmination of over six decades of volunteer work with the Red Cross. She received the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award in 1999.
She greatly valued the companionship and support of her close friends Roxie Remley, Marky Lloyd, and Judy Holleman. In her later years she spent many happy hours watching and listening to sports, particularly the GSU Eagles and the Atlanta Braves, and communicating with family and friends. She will be remembered by all as a most thoughtful, kind, and giving lady.
A memorial service for Luella Rogers will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 29 at the Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors during the hour preceding the service. Burial will be in Bentonville City Cemetery, Bentonville, Arkansas.

Mr. Calvin Elvis Reddick

Mr. Calvin Elvis Reddick, age 46, died Friday in Tattnall County from injuries sustained in a construction accident. The Jenkins County native lived in Bulloch County most of his life. He was a 1980 graduate of Statesboro High School. Calvin was employed with Sheppard Lumber Company for many years and was a valued employee of Braswell Foods. He was a certified welder. Calvin was a member of the Langston United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his father, Jimmie Reddick of Sylvania; a sister and brother in law, Marilyn Wright-Kearse and Gary Kearse of Leefield; a niece, Kimberly Wright of Leefield, best friend, Tom Barnard and friend of many years, Brian Barnard. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will Wednesday at 10:00am in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Arthur Nubern, Jr., (Boots) age 82, died Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The Scranton, Pennsylvania, native lived in Bulloch County most of his life. Mr. Nubern was a Civil Service retiree and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a member of the Harville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a loving husband, father and uncle. Mr. Nubern enjoyed fishing, had a great love for animals and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Nubern, Sr. and Susan Murray Nubern; two brothers, Autis Nubern and James Franklin Nubern; and a sister, Doris Parrish.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Elsie Mitchell Nubern of Bulloch County; a son and daughter in law, Ernest N. and Susan E. Nubern of Statesboro; a daughter and son in law, Sara Nubern Long and Robert Long of Seville, TN; two sisters and a brother in law, Norma and Gene Bath of Ellabaell and Catherine Davis of Pembroke and two sisters in law, Barbara Nubern of Bulloch County and Colleen Nubern of Pembroke. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. William Henry Bragg “Bill”, age 76, died Wednesday at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was the son of the late William L. and Eva Heath Bragg. He was employed with J.P. Stevens Company for many years, Woolco, Woolworth and the Bulloch County Board of Education in the Maintenance Departments and with Ted Vickery, contracting with Bulloch Telephone for outdoor maintenance. Mr. Bragg was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer hunting. Mr. Bragg was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Bolton Bragg.
Surviving are his wife of four years Kathleen Wiggins Finch Bragg of Portal; two daughters and sons in law, Barbara Jean and Tony Kindle of Rutherfordton, NC and Kathy Ann and Jerry Finch of Hollister, FL; two sons and daughters in law, Floyd and Faye Bragg of Stilson and Alan and Sherry Bragg of Portal; two step children, Brenda Kay and J.L. Duncan of Baxley and Jerry Wayne and Kim Finch of Millen; four sisters, Mary Roland, Erma Jean Jones and Jody Miley all of Statesboro and Nink Boyd of Warrenville, SC; a brother Charles Bragg of Statesboro and a sister in law, Latrelle Bragg of Statesboro. Seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and 24 step great grandchildren also survive.
