Ms. Cecil Faye Street Grooms
Ms. Faye Grooms, age 73, went home to be with her Lord after a long illness on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born in Jesup, Georgia on August 23, 1934 to Walfrieda and the late Cecil Street.
Faye moved with her parents, brothers and sisters from Jesup to Statesboro in 1948. She graduated from Statesboro High School with the class of 1953. She completed training as a Cosmetologist and practiced her profession during the years she lived in Columbus, Georgia. Upon returning to Bulloch County in 1966, she resided in Brooklet. She became a volunteer at the Bulloch Resident Center, the pioneer residential treatment program for alcoholism in the State of Georgia. In 1973, Faye became a staff member of this program which became part of Pineland Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services. She became director of residential substance abuse services in 1976. Faye was actively involved in the development of the facility and program for the A. John Mooney Substance Abuse Center, known throughout the state as “John’s Place.” She retired from Pineland Substance Abuse Services in 1997. Shortly after her retirement, she established Bulloch DUI and Risk Reduction. She was the recipient of the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award and the A.J. Mooney Award. Faye is preceded in death by her father, Cecil Street; one sister, Juanita Street Stubbs; two brothers, Walter (PeeWee) Street and Tommy Street; two nephews, Jimmy and Jerry Mitchell; and one niece, Missy Street.
She is survived by her mother, Walfrieda Mankin Street; one son, Joe (JoJo) A. Grooms III (Sheri); one granddaughter, Heather Lynne Grooms; two sisters, Jean Milhorn (Hank) and Connie Hook (Bob); one brother, Ronnie Street; a “special niece, ” Cindy Bohler; several other nieces and nephews; and Joe Grooms, Jr. the father of her son.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-7 P.M. at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on June 2, 2008 at 11A.M. in the Chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home with Padre John Lopez officiating.
Internment will follow at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Judd, Barrett, and Ronnie Street, Mitchell Bohler, Vern Howard, Bob Hook, and Jeff Stubbs.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Ogeechee Area Hospice, P. O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459.

Mrs. Hattie Mae Swint

Mrs. Hattie Mae Swint, age 88, died Thursday afternoon at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was born October 15, 1919 to Thomas Lawrence and Ada Mae Brown Sherrod. Mrs. Swint retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many years of service as a clerk and carrier in both Stilson and Brooklet Post Offices. She was and avid gardener and enjoyed working with flowers in her yard, which she shared with neighbors and her church every Sunday for many years. Mrs. Swint owned and operated Briar Patch Crafts in Stilson for many years. She enjoyed painting on wood and canvas. In 1995 she was a recipient of a Deen Day Smith Award. Mrs. Swint was a member of the Old Fellowship Baptist Church where she was past secretary / treasure and a choir member for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Willie David Swint and a son David Eugene Swint.
She is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Robert (Bub) and Cheryl Swint and Wayne and Sheryl Swint all of Stilson; seven grandchildren, David Swint, Kim(Randy) Totten, Brian Swint, Jill Vliet, Brad (Karrie) Swint, Danny (Melody) Covington and Elliot (Anna) Swint and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00pm at the Old Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. Reland Morgan officiating. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and granddaughters.

Mrs. Shirley Rose Haygood Holland, age 74, passed into eternal rest on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Ogeechee Area Hospice In-patient Facility in Statesboro. She was a Bulloch County native and graduated from Nevils High School, Class of 1952.
She was a devoted wife, mother, granny, and great-granny. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church, in Nevils, for 31 years and a member of the Roscoe Roberts Sunday School class.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Ouida Haygood, nephew, Craig Haygood, niece, Holly Haygood, and son-in-law Punky Rogers.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her husband of 53 years, William Robert Holland, daughters, Cheryl Holland Rogers and Gail Holland Thompson (Pat); grand children, Adriene Johnson (Jeff), Crystal Canady (Ricky), Katie Daughtry (Justin), Anna Rogers and Patrick Thompson (Valerie); great-grand-children, Roseanne Saxon, Hunter and Austin Canady and Tyler and Kennedy Johnson; A sister, Yvonne H. Williams (C.J.); a brother James E. Haygood (Jan) and nephews and nieces, Ricky Williams (Linda), Denny Haygood (Jan), Donna Howard (Neal) and Joy Fields (Ben).
Visitation will be held on Monday May 26, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday May 27, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Eason officiating. Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Eloise Dickerson
Social Circle, Georgia / Portal, GA
Mrs. Eloise Parrish Saunders Dickerson, age 86, died Wednesday at the Park Place Nursing Home in Monroe, GA. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County moved to Social Circle two years ago. She was employed with the Thompson Company in Millen for 10 years and retired from Pride Manufacturing in Portal after 28 years of service. She was a member of the Portal United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons and daughter in law, Larry E. and Beth Saunders of Social Circle and Randy S. Saunders of Portal; a granddaughter, Leigh Ann Page of Loganville and three great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00am in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Jim Watson
Statesboro, GA
Mr. James (Jim) Hendry Watson, age 85, died Saturday morning at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. The Bulloch County native was a graduate of Register High School and attended Georgia Teacher’s College. He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Following his military service Mr. Watson returned to Statesboro to manage WWNS radio station. He moved to Hinesville in 1958 where he owned and operated WGML radio station for several years, he owned and operated the Tastee Freeze in Hinesville and Claxton and was the inn keeper at the Hinesville Holiday Inn for 10 years. Mr. Watson served as the Mayor of Hinesville and on the city council. He was a former member of the Hinesville Methodist Church. He returned to Statesboro in 1995 and was employed with Kelly Realty until his death. Mr. Watson was a member of the Pittman Park United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Henderson Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Statesboro Rotary Club and the Savannah Quarter Back Club. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leigh Watson.
Surviving are a daughter and son in law, Wanda and Chip Pohl of Marietta; a son and daughter in law, Jim and Amy Watson of Denver, CO; three step children, Gail Standard and Cathy Correa both of Hinesville and Steven Forte; grandchildren, Andy and Anna Pohl, Michael and Marianne Pohl, Rebekah and Jason Stitt, Alex Watson, Jack Standard, Sarah Standard, Brianna Correa, Trey Correa, Devin Forte and Sloane Forte; four great-grandchildren, Justin, Everett, Kaitlyn and Eva Pohl; two sisters, Inez Stephens of Thompson and Karlyn Fiveash of Dawson and a special friend and caregiver, Nannette Ellington of Statesboro.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30am at the Pittman Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Huling officiating assisted by Rev. Hollie Tapley. The body will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Graveside services and burial will be Tuesday at 2:00pm at the Hinesville Cemetery.

Mr. Robert L. Fincher, 77, died Wednesday at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center. He was born in Haralson County and graduated from Cedartown High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force attended the Air Force Technical School. While serving his country he fought in the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of Fincher Pools. He enjoyed raising squirrels and being with his family. Mr. Fincher was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Willie Lee Fincher; parents, J.E. and Lillian Roberta Fincher, daughter and son in law, Janice and Ed Bolton.
Surviving are a daughter and son in law, Terri and Tommy Burke of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Jason Bolton, Brandi Bolton, Brooke Burke and Sterling Burke all of Statesboro; sister, Virginia Wolf, of Charleston, SC; nieces and nephews, Donna, Barrett, and Brandon Bryant; caregiver, Susie Deloach; and pet squirrels, Smiley and Buddy.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elder W.I. Tidwell, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sara Campbell Hillman
(March 17, 1924 - June 7, 2011)
Mrs. Sara Campbell Hillman, age 87 of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. She was born on March 17, 1924 in Polk County; she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Rubin and Sara Williams Campbell.
Mrs. Hillman worked as a school administrator for many years in Warren, Michigan for a private church school.
Mrs. Hillman is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Mr. Wiley C. Hillman; sister, Martha McCurry and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Hillman is preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.
The funeral for Mrs. Hillman will be conducted on Friday, June 10, 2011 at eleven o’clock in the morning at the Gammage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Dabbs officiating.
iIntermentwill follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Hillman will receive family and friends on Thursday, June 9, 2011 from six o’clock in the evening until eight o’clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Mr. Bolinger
Mr. Doyal Bolinger, 85, of 249 Vann’s Valley Road, Rome, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008. He was born Jan. 1, 1923, in Centre, Ala. He was the son of the late George Washington and Turay Moncief Bolinger.
Mr. Bolinger was the owner and operator of the Bolinger Welding Services at Six Mile for over 50 years. He was a member of the Eden Valley Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Christopher Bolinger; and three brothers, Jack Bolinger, James Bolinger and Tommy Bolinger.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Arelee McDaniel Bolinger; daughters, Mrs. Mildred Shipman and Mrs. Doris Rogers, both of LaFayette, Mrs. Patsy Kelley, Ms. Vicky Carver of Centre, Ala. and Ms. Robin Turiette; a brother, Mr. R. B. Bolinger of Rome. 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 29, at 2 p.m., at John House’s Cave Spring Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Dowdy officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery in Centre, Ala.
